Echo In the Mountains

I picked wild berries, gathered ripening grapes
and tasted life's bittersweet wine.
From fountains of youth by the river shore
I spilled the gold from the Rhine.

In Caucasian Mountains and the Austrian Alps
I sought the elusive Edelweiss;
Wild columbines I found in West Virginia
where I searched for paradise.

 Keeping pace with my children's
 laughter and tears,
my Rhine castles in sand faded away
and I entered a vernal quietness
in the dawn of a different day.

 When I traded past splendor
for "Almost Heaven"
to cross a defining sea and new life,
I found that the quest for beauty
was ever a part of me.

Vienna

Vienna, Austria
1954

I cannot reach you ,
Not even in my thoughts.
And nothing seems to reach
me anymore.
The time is borrowed
And I seek for the memory
To return;
When the shadow of your love
Gently touched my soul.

Wien 1954

Ich kann Dich nicht mehr erreichen.
Meine tiefsten Gedanken
verstecken Dich in meinem Herzen.
Die Zeit is geborgt
und ich begehre die Erinnerung
der Realitaet zurueckzurufen,
als Deine Liebe
zaertlich meine Seele beruehrte.

The Deeper Glow

Virtue has different views
while love's touch
goes a long way

Most Changes and Habits Are Sudden

When two souls melt into one,
this is the beginning to an end
of all search.
There is no space, no parting
no death.

Veraenderungen und Wechsel der
Gewohnheiten, kommen ploetzlich.

Wenn zwei Seelen sich verbinden,
dass ist der Anfang
und Ende des Suchens.
Abschied und Liebe
kennen keine Grenzen.

Wiedersehen

Heidenrod 8 (Zorn) Germany
1984
 Nach vielen, langen Jahren,
sah ich die Heimat wieder.
Es scheint noch immer
wie ein wunderschöner Traum.
Die Erinnerung wird weiter leben,
in Zeit und Weltenraum.
 Seltsam, wie das Dörfchen
sich verändert
und ich alles anders fand.
Herzinniglich gedenke ich der
Jugendfreunde und der Zeiten,
als gleiches Schicksal uns verband.
 Wie waren unsere Herzen aufgeschlossen
und echt die Freude
und das Wiedersehen.
Die Zeit, sie eilte viel zu schnell.
Doch der Augenblick
wird nie vergehen.
Die Tage die noch bleiben,
liegen in Gottes Hand.
Ein Stückchen Himmel nahm ich mit,
zum großen, fremden Land.

Wohin die letzte Reise
uns auch führen mag,
 unsterblich ist ein wunderschöner T

Tiefe Stille

Tiefe Stille

Die Seele schluepfte in die Nacht.
Ihr wurde Zuflucht gewaehrt,
von einer hoeheren Macht.
Da gab es keine Banners, keine Paraden,
nur vollkommener Frieden
und die Gewissheit,
das Gott ist.

Sacred Silence

Soul escaped into the night
granted sanctuary
in the quiet essence
of indwelling spirit.
There were no banners or parades,
just total peace
and the firm assurance
that God exists

The White Lilac Tree

The White Lilac Tree

In the garden, bloomed so beautiful this year;
Awakened memories
of my homeland and of youth.
Inside of me.some tears.
Trees stand guard.
Proudly dressed with leaves of green,
to honor You
creator of heaven, earth and all mankind
I write a song.
I want to bow before you, in devotion.

Senior Citizen

Limited income, declining vitality.
Life is speeding to reach its destiny.

The fear of pain just a thought away,
comes creeping back wanting to stay.

Time is a gift,
a teacher of self-awareness
and a choice of perception.

The Poet

The desires to share thoughts freely given,
are greater then the ego trailing along.

Where do I go when the body dies?

I like to believe
That the soul leaves the body
and returns to the source.

Like an atom, neutron, or proton,
soul is the smallest particle there is
and the most powerful of all.
Soul is eternal.

Thankful

In spite of all troubles,
Compassion, forgiveness and understanding
have not left yet.

One of the greatest gifts is a friend.
The greatest gift in life is peace profound.
All Answers are within.

The children asked

Are we not in your thoughts anymore?”
“Time is borrowed and I am tired
You are molded in my heart.
May God bless you’

Love Is a Window

I look outside
and visualize your face.
When I glance inward,
I feel your heartbeat
hiding in my secret place.
Time is, lonely hours without you.
And I miss your happy smile.
In my mind's imagination
you returned
and stayed a while

City of Dreams

Vienna, soft music, young wine and
a handsome, young stranger.
A small, cozy Grinzing Café
 with candlelight
and a table for two,
blue violets, white roses for me.

He asked the gypsy to play our song
and spoke softly,
"You're lovely. Let’s dance."
A soldier from a far away country
and a girl without a passport
to cross the border for home
were listening to violins crying the song of the Volga
" Alone once more, so alone."

 The last streetcar passed
 We walked hand in hand.
Lanterns cast their light upon
two strangers dreaming of peace
in the botanical garden by night

In a horse-drawn carriage he rode to the airport.
With blue violets, white roses, I waved good-bye
and at early dawn the plane disappeared,
into the limitless sky.

Time has mended the scars of a war.
A bond never broken, love for truth
and compassion for mankind remain.
In seasons to come, when life prevails over death,
blue violets, white roses,
will bloom in my garden again.
