Skin Color Runs Deep

Let’s face it.
My birth place has left its trace
a fixed stamp on a face called race,
on this, a surface of brown color I carry
with me to stay till they burn me or bury.

When the choice of race or color is not with any
so why suffer or claim its supremacy over many,
Though the color of vital fluids that runs in us is same
yet we embrace the color of the sheath to suit a frame.

White is pure sure, Black is beauty, Brown wears the crown
are post-its we stick, if it gives us benefits;
White will slight, Black always lack, down with Brown
are labels we level, if we gain in our exploits.

Browned off, I put this in black and white,
tethered to a color of coat we are born with,
who we are is bound by the color that covers us,
Indeed skin color runs deep.

Salt March

Gandhi
Marched to Dandi
To fight against taxes on salt,
Non-violence was his axe in this assault.

Prime Crime - Bt

The rhyme I write
is of crime that
kills Life in prime,
in a strife his
throat slit by knife
had fear writ large
on him and it
made me swim in
sweat in dream grim.

Black and White

The rise
and fall
of the
black and
white keys
makes a
grand show;
the tap
from ten
on these
keys makes
sound flow.
The high
and low
and black
and white
notes bring
charm in
the tune;
this sight
and sound
taps the
heart to
hum and
sing soon.

Mathematics Pleiades

My mind's myriad fears
multiplied and marred my
mirth and made me meek but
mettle marches to make
methods malleable,
minus out fears to gain
mastery over Math.

Pleiades Poetry Contest

The Pleiades is a titled form which was invented in 1999 by Craig Tigerman, Sol Magazine's Lead Editor. Only one word is allowed in the title followed by a single seven-line stanza. The first word in each line begins with the same letter as the title.. Hortensia Anderson, a popular haiku and tanka poet, added her own requirement of restricting the line length to 6 syllables.

The World Is One Family

This heart yearns to sing this song, to show the world where I belong,

An ancient civilization on this Earth, its great wisdom brings pride
to this birth,

Truth* and non-violence** is taught, to make it an integral part
of every heart,

Suffused with rich and wild fauna and flora, every part of the country
has an unique aura,

Everything is worshiped, not in blind faith, but to see the Maker in everything
 as THE fundamental Truth,

Seasons here are six and this makes it unique, the Fall season is worshiped
to show letting go with grace is what one must seek,

One’s mind and body is fused through Yoga as a Life goal, to view this World
as an integrated Whole,

This “World is a Family”*** is what India says, live and let live are the ways
of this diverse race and region, that makes this world a beautiful place.

                                                   *******

Notes:
* Truth: The ancient story of King Harishchandra illustrates his commitment to God through Truth. This video link has that story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnkKJubhAIs
Gandhi’s inspiring book “My Experiments with Truth” was probably influenced by this story of King Harishanchandra.

** Non-violence: Buddha was born here in India, he preached and practiced non-violence, so was Gandhi and innumerable others.

*** Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is an ancient Sanskrit phrase and means "the world is one family”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasudhaiva_Kutumbakam

Water Element

When the vital element(earth) I live on looks parched and dry
anxiously I gaze upwards for precipitation to come from sky,
thanking the rainfall that invigorates all life and living
eloquently I praise thee as in hydration you retain my being,
requisite Life element, I daresay, you help my heart beat running.

it must be crystallization of a great thought that made you, you take any form,
shape and space, supporting all life forms you retain every race in norm.

God may seem impermeable or inaccessible to
ordinary souls like me but I see you as my flowing visible
deity that cleanses my soul and quench’s my thirsty body.

Beauty Lost To a Theorem

I once knew a poet named Sathya
who penned the beauty of Himalaya
this write was his first poem
             it read just like Theorem,
this jest sent his ears red like papaya.

--------------------------------------------

PS: When I was asked to pen a poem on Himalaya(snow mountain range in the South Asia,), being Math oriented I presented a writing which had full of facts ( Temperature, height, length, weight, moisture and this sounded like a Mathematical Theorem). My teacher, in her note was curious to know the beauty I saw in the all facts I presented . My ears turned red and did not know how to react.
