One Step At a Time

adventure, growing up, hip hop, repetition, word play

A ONE STEP AT A TIME ©
Life is but a hopscotch path
Players vying for placement
Rules to follow aground
Tokens used for good luck
Practice runs lead to safe landings
Over ever-changing terrains
Hop skip and jump!

Land on a crack
You break your Mudder’s back
Marbles fill a bag of loot
Once directed into home holes
Missed turns are your takings
Marbled cat eyes forever coveted!
Crayons come in packs
Pick a colour to your taste
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Black is for rain clouds
Gone is a sun yellow

A is for Apple-
B is for Bunny-
C is for caterwauling
Letters up for a draw
Lettered tongues speak
The bad, good and the ugly
Making mountains out of mole hills!
Name-calling never hurts
Pain hurts from thrown stones
Calling one to take a chance
Towards another hopscotch
With hop skips and jumps
One step, two steps, three steps more!

Queen's Birthday

birth, birthday, celebration, dad,

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN © TANKA

Queen’s birthday April 21
Birthday of my Dad the same
And his fourth daughter’s
As is the same as my son’s
Dad cried, “A King for A Day”!

My Cloud Nine By Didee

angst, feelings, immigration, racism, retirement, slam, today,

My Cloud Nine by Didee ©

Eh, get off of my cloud you silly narrow minded fools
I never put out a ‘for rent sign’ and I make up the rules
My fluffy pure white cloud may leak if it becomes too reedy
Many free-loaders climbed today saying they are the needy
I was the original caretaker making this place float upright
It is my inspirational thoughts that bound and kept it tight
As a one-man sanctuary with a (all-time) lease signed My Cloud Nine
Circling here and there with no stops making for little lost time
I, I and I are just ‘we’ and carry on well with no house keeping
It is you, him, her, and other hitch-hikers causing this here meeting
Take all of you off and far beyond and be gone from this man’s space
And find another cloud to 'share' and feed upon from your own human race.

Five Haiku Pansy Poems

color, dance, imagery, inspirational, poetry, wind, word play,

In my pansy patch
The flower petals surround
Cherub expressions!

The pansy petals
Edge their small faces in bonnets
Framing heads so well

Flower pansy dresses
My petal faeries wear well
‘Show-offs’ with such airs!

My faerie pansies
Bow and bend to the winds song
Under the sky blue!

Butterfly sets down
Over the pansy’s to draw
Syrup in the cup!

That Jingle-Jangle of the Piggy Bank Song

candy, childhood, me, money, nostalgia, word play,

Jingle-jangle of the Piggy Bank Song ©

Oh for those sounds of jingle jangle tinkling notes
When an allowance of two dimes and a nickel
Was dropped in the belly of my bright pink piggy bank
Through a slot placed for coins between two cute ears
Right on top and mid center to the piggy’s pink rounded head
The shiny silver and coppers slid, but never any bright gold
Always making jingle sounds when given a shake up or two
Within the piggy’s round half-filled fat bright pink belly hold.
There were four teeth lost to the Tooth Fairy and she paid
Quarters each time left under my pillows magically placed
Those were special and remained for a long sit in my bank

I would take two dimes and a nickel each second Saturday
And pocket this cache and set out to buy a large box of Smarties
Twenty-five cents was the cost in those days for a family-size box
And all mine for a day or so until I was ‘pigged’ out from finishing the last Smarties that called unto me “Eat Me” and had my name inked on as well
But it is now not because I haven’t forgotten its tummy upset
That I think back when buying a box of family size Smarties today
But whenever I place coins in my pocket I am again reminded
Of that box of Smarties I had bought and the jingle jangle the coins made
Oh, and the thought of eating them all at one go that long passed time !

Four Haiku Poems On Clouds

imagery, nature, sun, water, wind, word play

The mountains speak out
From under clouds soaring high
Light strikes down below!

Mountain ridges stick out
Crags and crevices shadow deep
Cloud cover adds frost!

Billowing white clouds
Rearrange themselves in groupings
Formatting anew!

The sun’s reflection
Sparkling the rolling wave tips
Sent by the strong breezes!

Three Haikupoems About Clematis

color, flower, nature, rain, red, star, sun,

Climbing clematis
Creep in among the trellis
And coloured stars show!

Rain and sun are needed
For blooming clematis buds
And butterflies to come!

Vases hold clematis
While water keeps them on tap
To display inside!

Three Tanka Strung Poems

Caterwauling winds
Force the once settled landfills far
Soil erosion starts
Settling so far out of bounds
To then dwindle down some again!
….didee © TANKA

Earth imploding ‘noted’
creation, environment, moon, morning, nature, night, science,

Three Strung Tanka Poems

Fished from science scales to date
Attention everyone
Demise for man’s brutal act
Will make a big blast!
didee© TANKA

Seasons change forever
No man needs worry today
Moonshine calls the tides
Morning brings up the sunrise
And evening spreads sunsets
….didee©TANKA

Moon segments abide tidal waves
Seasons brings changed weather casts
Sun dries all the wet again
And clouds bring on the rainfall
Earth recycles do you?

Seasonal Walks In the Park

baseball, bird, change, childhood, games, holiday, lost,

“Seasonal Walks in the Park!”

A walk in the park after a springtime morning rainfall
Is to hear the droplets fall from bent branches overhead
That can shock and moisten one’s brow walking below
And make note on the many water stains spotting the lanes

The grasses have turned into rich shiny green blades
Water drops remaining give individual blades sparkle
And soon the lawns will need to be mowed often
And made and kept ready for park picnics and games

The dissolving clouds open gaps for sun rays piercings
Adding sunbeam warmth down on upturned faces
The sun-warm breezes will temp visitors to carry their coats
And others perhaps persuaded in removing their shoes and socks

Some will have their feet dampened on the grass from droplets of dew
As they venture and tread about the newly showered lawns
The blades of grass will squeak when running shoes tramp through
And if recently cut than grass blades will stick between bared toes

Spring’s love potion is inhaled and felt by all touring about
Seasoning desires for familiarity towards the fairer sex
From past haunts of pleasantly spent park delights
Where wooing couples will be affected to a time stand still

The early morning rainbow has faded and day’s clear skies are imminent
The air fresh from receding mists mingle heavenly and tweak the nose
Dew worms break through and inch their way along above ground
Turning out from under the now soft rain moistened soil

This stirs the well-known smell of earth worms movements
And birds sing out invitations for all to join in this feed
Mother birds will return and hungry hatchlings will have first kills
And fathers will be released then of their nest guard duties for this share

All daytime and nighttime visitors will become love-struck
In their search for springtime’s romancing love calls to one another
The park comes awake to the frenzy and welcomes young and old
To meet, greet, and form new and old friendships offered all around

The park's excitement is truly felt when a love-knot becomes first tied
Crawling babies born from previous spring time passions will be noted
They will learn the high-step toddle soon enough bringing them to romp
Once they have experienced that first feel of having to crawl on prickly grass

Young voices are heard mingling along with loud hand claps
All friendly ‘high-fives’ are brandied about within the new met groups
This is an all- time game ritual passed between friendships bonding
All this showmanship will form new team players for ball-park games

The ice-rink’s wooden forms are being removed and taken away for another year
Memories of skating parties last held are brought to surface
The recall of being half frozen and then thawed
When invited to sip a mug of hot chocolate steaming and full-bodied

A freshly painted baseball diamond will replace the rink area now
This ball field will bring many ball park players to home-plate
While proving to others they are ‘out of bounds’
Their devotion to play after school and during holidays is well kept

The flapping and snapping of new kites sound overhead
Straining their ties against the cruel breezes putting them down
Watchers walking about are made to feel free
The breezes jostle skirt and pant legs to tease about

Children are held clasped in grown-up hands to hold them fast
Their first walk about in the park has been a long time put on hold
Even the elderly are childlike and have a bounce given to their step
Walking around the park’s perimeter evolves a lifetime’s returning event

A seasonal change brings about new and different facades to the parkland
And they never fail to have a special allure to draw all outdoors
No matter what the weather call that day or night will bring
Walkers are in want of fresh-air walks found in the park grounds

And dogs always have to reacquaint themselves to the lay of the parkland
Their bones need burying for great hunts in all seasons to become lost and found
They love to leave their markings on pure white snow banks as calling cards
The park sees all and sees to all that visit and never will tell tales of any kind!
