On a Soldier's Death

His back meets the cold, wet grass under him,
his eyes meet the blue endless sky hovering over him.

The cigarette from his hand dies out as it meets the sopping grass below
He feels the blood escape his body that now is no longer whole.

As he stares up into the sky,
he thinks of the girl he hated to leave behind.

He thinks of his mother, her tears streaming down,
his father’s proud hand, as it strongly grazed his crown.

He thinks of the men fighting for their life,
He thinks of his enemy, ducking for his life.

He thinks of the reasons war even exists,
Maybe this isn’t the way one should even live.

The sounds of his men approaching feels distant in his ear,
the struggle to save a life is unyielding,

when the bullet cuts through the heart,
there is no weaker feeling.

Slowly the sounds of planes hushes down,
The sounds of gunfire are stifled,

The missiles whistling in the background stop
and all of nature’s sounds just suppress, as they come to a halt.

The men become blurry as his eyes start to freeze,
The body that once fought, now turned to solid ice.

For the last time in his life,
he thinks of the girl he wishes he never left behind.

He thinks of his mother, whose tears will continue to run,
the father’s proud hand, that wont ever touch his son.

In these last few seconds, he does not feel scared,
as he spent this life fighting strongly for his homeland.

On Nature's Stance

The fig tree remembers,

the countless flowers reaching beyond the iron fence,
its petals squeezing through for a touch of greater sun,
making them dance as the southern wind deems to prance.

The fig tree remembers,

the dog house at the end of the yard,
the countless faces the green yard welcomed,
fresh, crisp, clothes stretching across the line, beating to the softness of of a southern wind, rushing through the sky.

The fig tree wishes to forget,

the sound a civilian child made after hearing a charge in the distance,
the ghostly night its keepers struggled to run to shelter, all the while
thinking they will be back much quicker.

The fig tree wishes to forget,

the loudness of army planes flaring by in the sky,
the faces of agressors as they stormed the house,
leaving only traces of their footsteps, as a house that stood for decades
was just reduced to a sea of flames.

Twenty years later, this fig tree still lands,
surrounded by the soaring, overgrown grass,
feeling the absence of her owner’s caring hands.

The fig tree still struggles to forget the night it all changed,
when her owners were coerced to leave her,
the night when she became the only existent life there.

On a Modern Mind

Tell me more about who's getting a divorce, who wants to have an affair with whom and of course, who has the greatest separation of all time.
Tell me more about who has the best body, what they do eat, what they don't eat, what they eat and throw back up.

Or wait, you forgot to tell me about the new diet the weekly celebrity is on; don't forget to mention the calories she lost. Make sure to tell me where she got her yoga pants and what makes them organic.
I forgot to ask, which cars are selling?
Who was in last weeks car chase?

No, no, I don't need to know about
Deforestation and why millions of animals are dying per second all across this great globe we like to call home.
And I really don't care about the truth on the War on Drugs, or on war, period.
I don't need to know about my rights being violated or the psycho babble bullshit preventing people from living simple lives.
We overthink the simple things, we overlook the important things and with that, were killing our civilization bit by bit.

On Taking Life

What does it take to stop a beating heart?
To freeze the blood circling each organ?
To stop the music a steady rhythm makes?
What does it take to stop the changeless process of one’s lungs?
To cause their lips to spread and never let out another exhale?
To never allow oxygen to travel through their system again?
What does it take to take someone’s father?
To take someone’s husband?
To take someone’s son?
To not allow another glance to pass through from a loved one?
To not allow the arrival back home, after a simple “see you later”?
What does it take to watch someone relive their whole life
before their eyes observe daylight for the last time?
To fall to their end?
For every ligament and muscle to give out?
To be helpless and turn to dust?
What does it take to live after that?
To have a conscious mind?
To be conscious, period?
To begin again after ordering someone’s end?

Does it take away?

On a Thought

A thought is just a thought they say
Little do they know of its strengths

Its ability to form, grow, expand, twist,
manipulate, scare, attack, stick, hold,
start trouble, destroy, cause panic,
distress, terrify, cause doubt, produce
chills ever so cold, enforce wrongful action,
terrorize, walk heavy on sweet and innocent
souls, make us run, conclude, assemble
problems, dismember us from ourselves

A thought is just a thought they say
Little do we know how well it can stem
