Silly Fears

Its not a mid-life crisis,
it just took me all these years
To realize the foolishness
of all my silly fears.

See, my mom, she worried all her days
and "caution" was her song.
She saw the worst scenario
in whatever could go wrong.

Her fears, disguised "protection",
kept me safe and always near.
But in my heart and mind and soul,
"protection" birthed more fear.

"Being careful" rippled over
into all my inhibitions,
And "safety first" dictated
every venturesome decision.

So, here I am, half-way through
this careful life I lead
And now, I see there's so much more
than fears I have believed.

She meant so well and did her best
by helping me 'beware'
But the curious world whispers,
“discovery is not a dare.”

So forgive me if you think I've thrown
caution to the wind,
I'm just tired of being careful,
wonderin' how things might've been.

Conversation Hearts

GUARDED HEARTS tiptoe carefully through conversation, keeping it factual, functional or useful.
GUILTY HEARTS side-step conversation, escaping judgement, obligation and responsibility.
TIRED HEARTS shuffle through conversation, wearily anticipating reactions; knowingly predicting inevitable outcomes.
ANGRY HEARTS flee from conversation shortly after their fist-pounding, finger-pointing and door-slamming outrage.
CRITICAL HEARTS dominate conversation with personal attack, hurtful insult and stereotypical disregard.
LONELY HEARTS desperately long for just a little conversation, even risky conversation.
INTENTIONAL HEARTS march through conversation with purpose, direction and desire.
FORGIVING HEARTS remain through tearful conversation, mending the treasured and broken pieces.
HAPPY HEARTS dance gracefully in the midst of conversation, leading, following, untangling each honest expression with willful ease.

I don't know about you, but I just wanna dance.

As Flowers Need Watering, Affections Need Nurturing

Love needs communicating. Communicating takes time. Time needs prioritizing. Prioritizing takes reflection. Reflection takes desire. Desire needs discipline. Discipline takes commitment. Commitment needs accountability. Accountability takes openness. Openness needs understanding. Understanding takes someone. Someone needs reminding. Reminding takes love.

Chocolate With Valentine

Boxes silky velvet
Boxes filled with chocolate
Chocolate caramel creams
Chocolate girls dreams
Dreams luscious romance
Dreams self indulgence
Indulgence now and then
Indulgence with a friend
Friend sharing treats
Friend thinks your sweet
Sweet smelling flowers
Sweet blissful hours
Hours longing hugs
Hours craving love
Love customs cupid
Love scene secluded
Secluded time together
Secluded now forever
Forever in my arms
Forever with your charms

Charms from your lips
Charms perfect script
Script attracting lover
Script under covers
Covers cozy warm
Covers through the storm
Storm winds blow
Storm love grows
Grows ever strong
Grows right or wrong
Wrong daring say
Wrong right way
Way to my heart
Way from the start
Start nervous shook
Start with a look
Look see adore
Look no more
More life living
More love giving

Giving day to day
Giving come what may
May gifts be candy boxes
May love be slow responses
Responses from this heart of mine
Responses from my Valentine
Valentine here today
Valentine here to stay
Stay until the candies gone...
Today tomorrow and beyond...

Serendipity

You’re the light in the tunnel, the sweet in the sour,
the leaf on the clover, the happy in hour,
the luck of the draw, the loves-me in daisies,
the blessing disguised, the dawn of new days.

You’re the wish on a star, the music to ears,
the shout from the roof tops, the here’s-to-ya cheers,
the ovation from crowds; the hip in hooray;
the song in my heart; the dance in the rain.

You’re the start of the engines; the pat on the back;
the message in bottles, the best for last;
the calm in the storm; the grand in finale;
the talk of the town; the cloud’s silver lining.

You’re the worth in the wait; the give in the take;
the leap in the faith; the twist in the fate;
the amazing in grace; the nothing to fear;
the heaven in help me and the answer to prayer.

Truth Or Circumstance

Though Circumstances in Life May...
Change my plans
Tire my body
Limit my finances
Challenge my fortitude
Increase my heartache
and Overflow my tears

They Will Not...
Define my character
Consume my thoughts
Mislead my direction
Steal my joy
Diminish my hope
or Break my spirit

God Will Use Them To...
Strengthen my faith
Anchor my emotions
Multiply my prayers
Transform my character
Prove His sufficiency
and Reflect His glory

In Their Midst, I Will...
Remember His promises
Obey His commands
Rely on His strength
Seek His will
Continue in service
and Discover His peace.

G2g

G2G
Full schedule. Out the door. Running late. Life's a chore.
No time. Wish I could. Crazy day. Understood?
Times are rough. Later on. Things to do. A mile long.
Friday night? No way. Another time. Another day.

Hurry up. Down the road. Across town. Forgot the phone.
Far behind. No show. Busy now. Gotta go.
Not enough. Much to do. Out of gas. Drive through.
Some day. Get it done. One day. It will come.

Work late. Over time. The way it is. You'll be fine.
Get-a-way? Work in town. Sun up. Sun down.
Pep pills. Sleep aids. Clock alarm. Wake up late.
Found the keys. Empty tank. Next time. No thanks.

What time? Not again. Far behind. Got to end.
Bottom lines. Hurry up. To the point. That's enough.
Spinning wheel. Chasing time. Working long. Daily grind.
Time flies. Life is short. Can't enjoy? Choice is yours.

Grateful Blossoms

The special things that you have done
in humbleness and love,
The words you shared, the pleasures spared,
to help me when I called,
The sacrifices offered up in your selfless way
reveal a true servant's heart that I cannot repay.

But if I could plant a "Thank-You" tree
to blossom grateful leaves,
I'd plant it in your own front yard
for the things you've done for me.
Throughout the years you'd know each Spring
as the leaves blew in the wind,

That I remain forever thankful
for you, my trusted friend.

No Distractions

I don't know the current fashions, famous brands, or latest styles.
But I know my way through wooded parks and trails that wind for miles.

Haven't had TV for several years, nor seen the latest movies.
Couldn't name the actor-of-the-year or Hollywood's newest floozies.

No evening news disrupts my peace, nor steals my precious time.
Won't allow continual sadness control the atmosphere of my mind.

Each day delivers brand new hours for each of us to choose
Unthankful thoughts and bitterness or peace and gratitude

Distractions steal our focus while we lose life's simple pleasures
Postponing goals and exercise, forsaking those we treasure.

Decide today to guard your life from trivial distractions
And do the things that mean the most with peace and satisfaction.
