Memory Box

This box is nothing special
It's four sides,bottom and top
Inside it holds my memories
Far richer than this box
My life, my family and my kids
My triumphs and mistakes
they are mine and mine alone
To ponder when I like

I add to it with tender care
Those memories I may forget
When my days are numbered
And my memory has left

I share it with no one
They may not understand
When I hold a torn picture
So gently in my hand

So when I die you may look
At my treasures held inside
And you may then realize
That memories never die.

The Circle Is Completed

Sharon was incredible
Her life was filled with joy
Her laughter habit forming
Her bad news shared with brefity
It wasn't time to mourn or feel sorry for herself
It was time to fill remaining time with more laughter
She was told 3 months and she laughed.
Her favorite saying was "I'll show you

Four months passed
Office visited
Hands on chin and na na na to the doc
1 year another visit made to doc
And on and on for 7 years
7 years and 3 months celebrated with Decdadent chocolate cake
Too much Tequila, cigars and anything that was forbidden
She knew
I knew
But the day was filled with joy, laughter, tears and expectation of the next step
I went home and knew I would never have the joy of seeing her again
7 years 3 months and i day
She showed him

Parents

If you love your parents tell them you love them
Keep in mind they are human
They messup
It's hard to stand still on the pedestal you think they are on
If they scold you they love you
If they at times tell you no
They love you
If they want your life to be easier than theirs
They love you
If you finally realize all this by the age of thirty
They did their job

Friends

At the age of about 25 I learned what is a real family
Families are made up of people who love you
They don't have to be related to you
They are the ones you can call at 3 in the morning
Say you need money and they reply
How much and where can I meet you
And they show up

Wasting Time

I meet people who carry their anger and disappointment as a badge
Mad about everything
Don't want to lose
Only care about winning
They are dying
They lose friends
They lose their children
They lose their family
Pride rules
The five letter world that leads you
To winning in your mind
Empty and alone on special days

Miracles

If you don't believe in miracles
You'll never receive one

Didn'T Expect That

We come into this world not knowing what to expect
We are held, loved, nourished, grow, learn
We get hurt
Didn't expect that
Each day is a new chance to be held, loved, nourished, grow, learn
We get hurt
Didn't expect that
Enough already I expect more
Forget about my rising barriers
I got hurt
Didn't expect that
Tired of thinking I can be held, loved nourished, grow, learn
I got hurt
I don't care about the new day
Why me
Why not
Let down the barriers
forget yesterday and love today
It worked
Didn't expect that

I Saw My Mother Smile

My father died
She was angry
She died inside
Hard to make her laugh
Impossible to see her enjoy life from that point on
She just existed
Last few days she wouldn't eat
She wouldn't take liquid
Last day on this earth JOY
She smiled
She talked to my Dad
She argued with him
Laughed with him and everyone that had passed before her
I watched a miracle
I believe

Mindset

I wake up in the morning
Sit on the edge of the bed
I put myself together from my toes up to my head
I walk into the bathroom
No lights so I can't see
The crazy looking lady who is staring back at me
I brush my teeth in silence and am glad I still have teeth
I do not think how old I am
Nor worry about the creeks
I think I'll stay a teen
This attitude has saved me from those around my age
Who feel the need to talk about all their aches and pains
So think about your mind set
Be glad your still around
You still have time to do the things you've thought about for years

Sleepless Night

Could not sleep last night
So many thoughts entering my mind
Pushing them out to no avail
Locked in sleep limbo
Tossing and turning
Thought I listened
Thought I helped
Not sure
Maybe
Understanding O.K.
Person hearing my words who knows
Lost one already
not again
