Be Back Come Morning

I don't know quite how it is
but there are times in my life
that are in absolute disobedience
to my being there

though not in denial
this carries its own unique aura
kind of smells like honey
with the tantalizing taste
of a young girls mouth

I curiously hover from a place
above it
to watch it move
gracious as a ballerina
yet so private in its nature

I have learned
that if I enfold unto it
it will embrace me
holding me
inside its rainbow
of butterscotch afternoons
             and
liquid caramel evenings

How conspicuous I must appear
come morning
putting the trash to the curb
as someone else

A small note
tacked to my front door

   Gone Fishing"

Stepping On Something Sweet

Stepping on something sweet

            Quiet shades of twilight
            ushering in a sullen mist
            while hushed purple shapes
cling like the jealous forlorn lover
            never letting go

            A tender whisper
            from some far off place
            of long ago
            tantalizes my soul
            with orange dreams

            A pas de deux
            of joy and pain
            spills from my nostrils
            across an ocher sky
to the curtsy of black tulips

           All these things
           and a whip-poor-will too
           sally down to sweep me
           inside their cavernous mouth
           swallowing everything I am

           The hollowed echo
           of a bedroom door
           closing behind me
           mimicking the sound
           of institution

The Passing

I never knew her by name
yet her sun kissed auburn hair
  I lived a lifetime with
  nor did she ever
  flip a glance my way
 how sure I was
  we once grew old together
  Her piercing green eyes
  like precious jewels
peering miles in front of her
  toward greener pastures
  to all places
  angels go dream
  How whimsical of me
  I thought to myself
  to have loved her forever
as her train rumbled pass me
  in the opposite direction
