Viking Warfare

I left my home, the world to roam
it’s been now twelve years gone.
From a boy to a man
was a dreadful short span,
as I journeyed to valleys beyond.
Now the king, he has spoken
and battle has broken,
I’m wise to the ways of the world.
Long on the sword,
as we seek our reward,
to see our flag unfurled…
Sailed by starry dark of night,
our longships cross the sea.
Where a hundred headless horsemen
guard the gates of Galilee.
Each dawn’s a daily dance of death,
through battle smoke like dragon’s breath.
With echo axe to armor chink,
each onslaught we rebuffed.
You can invite the devil for a drink
…if you think you’re man enough.
Heavy’s the head that wears the crown,
when the blood of brothers’ beckons.
Weak is the sword, as it lies on the ground.
If there’s a will, there’s a way,
there are weapons.
But once the battle has ended
and our journeys’ been made,
there’ll be air in my lungs,
and blood on my blade.
As was foretold, our flag was unrolled
in the past… now once again!
Vikings prevail, each time we sail,
in the age of wooden ships
… and iron men.

Poetic Allure

Poetic words on
paper creased,
tell beauty of a
mind unleashed…
Pen is to paper - as
chalk is to slate.
Your mind is a
canvas - that I’ll
illustrate.
You’ll envision an
image artfully
crafted,
when reflecting on
poetry cleverly
drafted...
Secrets once
chained, and a bit
undefined,
will come into focus
inside your mind.
A likeness derived
from inspiring
scrawl,
unlocking the
dreamer that’s
inside us all...

Peaceful Lovers Dream

Lie next to me, and you will see,
As we read each other’s mind…
When your heart beats, mine repeats
and both benefit in kind.
Time stands still, or so it seems,
in our hammock strung
between two dreams.
Side by side, we hear the tide,
and not a word is spoken.
Love came in through a door
we didn’t know was open…

Shades of Life

Extended family, children play
as sunbeams fall all slanted,
‘round a wooden table in the shade
of a tree great-grandpa planted.
I like to think he smiled back then,
with sweaty brow, and handsome grin.
Old and wise – I’m sure he knew,
in time his tree would block the view.
I wonder if he thought about,
his family tree - with branches out?
The bonds of blood were strong and grew.
So has the shade he never knew…

Hidden Mountains

A solo pilot, lost in snow,
in a jagged mountain pass.
His eyes are trained upon each tree,
and the shape of each crevasse…
In an open-cockpit time machine,
the winter wind does howl,
but a mighty fire’s burning bright,
inside the engine cowl.
The fog and flurry blinding him,
he searches for a trail,
running late, and miles behind,
he’s employed to fly the mail.
He looks for clues to lead him back,
like ancient, sunken wagon tracks.
A mumbled cuss, then shouts out loud,
he’s heard that mountains hide in clouds…
Now’s the time to pay the toll,
for conversations with his soul.
One way in, and one way out,
it’s true that mountains hide in clouds.

Rose of Annamarie

Collecting the colors of nature,
the yellow, the blue and the green.
From the top of the stair,
I see a color so rare,
I go into the garden to see.
A snap-shot in my mind,
of the color I’d find,
just as my mind’s eye took it…
I continue my quest,
searching everywhere lest,
the dim light of dawn overlooks it.
I spy a fresh rose,
with petals of red,
I pick it not-
but admire instead.
It’s splendor and color,
at times wild and free,
are all reminiscent
of Annamarie…

A Bridge To Better Days

To that one soul reading this…
whose problems seem abyss.
There is a bridge to better days,
where sunshine still exists.
To discover the way,
and a warm place to stay,
isn’t hard to recognize.
If you’re searching for clues,
that will help you get through,
they might be in disguise…
The mountains that you climb today
as storm clouds gather ‘round,
will soon fade into yesterday,
when all that’s lost is found.
The morning sun is not defined
by last night’s sunset, so
as for the trials of days gone by
they can simply be let go…
So dream sweet dreams
from dusk to dawn,
and your deeds will
stand applauded.
You’ll be smiling twenty
years from now…
as you walk a path
well plotted…

The Road It Forks

In the breaking light of dawn,
in a photograph - we kiss.
It's to your inner light I'm drawn,
while cursing fate, and chances missed...
Wrapped in thought, and solitude,
sweet lies trumped by bitter truth.
The road it forks, and one way taken,
now questions over dreams foresaken...
A puzzling gauntlet of how, when and why?
You were my favorite hello,
and my hardest goodbye...

The Stars Beyond the Sunset

Walk with me
the water's edge,
when the sun
and sea have met...
Our shadow's long,
the day is gone,
but it's not
dark just yet...
A kiss, and passion
fills our souls,
as the beauty
of the night unfolds...
Lovers now
- in silhouette,
we share the stars
beyond the sunset...

Kingdom Lost

In summertime, the ivy climbs,
and hides the castle wall.
The king dreams of late,
that the sea is so great,
and yet - his boat is so small.
As swift as a fox and
dark as a raven on wing,
seven hundred soldiers march
into the valley of the king.
Long overdue, a battle ensues
flanking the powers that be.
Children cry, and good men die,
the monarch is now on his knee…
Soon the horsemen alone
try to maintain the throne.
But the long way around
is the shortest way home.
The evening is filled
with chaos and smoke,
and the kingdom is
stunned by it all…
Soon the sun will go down,
and in spite of his crown,
the king will undoubtedly fall…
His rival’s strength
was mistaken,
by a king overtaken,
his life is now but a pawn.
His authority lifted,
the power has shifted –
an era of glory is gone…
