Mariam M. Poem
Teacher, shall I write a sonnet? Must I?
When I’m not so sure of my poetry…
Shall I write a poem of fourteen lines?
In iambic pentameter –by me?
What shall I write about? What can I say?
In this sonnet which I must jot down now?
My sonnet should be about what today?
To write a great sonnet I’m not sure how…
Teacher, can I write this sonnet later
For I’m not sure of what to write about?
The teacher then takes my simple paper
And “you already did.” my teacher shouts.
‘Detention’ my teacher says, ‘for lying,’
‘But thank you,’ she adds, ‘for at least trying.’

Mariam M. Poem
There was a girl named Tracy Luke,
She cared so much about her looks,
She was blonde, pretty... slim and tall,
She loved her red lips most of all.
One day at school she mocked this girl,
Made fun of her looks, said bad words,
Then insulted another chick,
For being fat, ‘ugly and thick’,
Then barked at a girl who was black,
Called her a ‘colored, ***** cat’
So this Tracy… she was so bad…
She bullied because she was sad…
She always had poor grades at school,
So she bullied, as though she ruled,
When she was done with junior high,
Her family told her goodbye,
She was moved to a private school,
Her senior years were not so cool,
She was the new girl, all loathed her,
For all were many times richer,
Days passed by, weeks and months would go,
Tracy was always feeling low,
The richer girls called her bad names,
Each day in class she’d be in shame,
Then one day she figured it out…
At her, her thoughts began to shout…
“Tracy, all the bad things you did
To those innocent and poor kids,
Back in your old school when you thought
You were ‘cool’ for the stuff you bought,
Are finding their way back to you,
God’s Justice, yes, is indeed true.”
So Tracy decided to stay
Patient, confirming her mistakes,
Until one day comes a new girl,
And Tracy says to her new self:
“Now this is my chance to amend,
Fix my mistakes, I’ll be her friend.
No longer will I be so rude.
I must be humble, not act ‘cool’,
For I know now that what you do
To others may come back to you!”

Mariam M. Poem
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch some pails of water
Jack climbed some trees while Jill was picking some pretty flowers
After some hours Jack realized that he was wasting time
So he called Jill to hurry up before ‘tis half past nine
So off they went to continue their very long journey
‘Till they passed by an old beggar and gave him some money
When they both reached the well Jack and Jill filled up their buckets
Near the well were some berries which they put in their pockets
When they reached home their momma and papa were so happy
For dinner they had meatballs and soup and chicken curry
And five bags of bananas which a rich neighbor gave them
The good that you do to others will always be returned

Mariam M. Poem
My name is “Maryam”, the name of the Prophet Jesus’ mother.
Alhamdulillah I’m a wife of a medical doctor.
I was born in Saudi Arabia in nineteen eighty six.
The language I use, since birth, e’en with my parents is English.
Alhamdulillah with them I’ve traveled to many countries –
From Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Egyptian pyramids,
Cool countries like England and France, Denmark and U. S. of A.
Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia where we once planned to stay.
I believe in Allah, I always seek knowledge of Islam,
I love reading Islamic books and teach Islam when I can,
I too enjoy poetry –have been writing since my early teens.
Had a few writings published in a Saudi Fun Times magazine.
I’m friendly in general. I don’t start fights for no reason.
You can tell I dislike someone when I snub or avoid them.
I’m against suicide bombings, against all acts of injustice.
I love the Messenger Muhammad (SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) and all of God’s Prophets like Jesus and Moses.
I believe that silence is better than constant chit-chatting,
And that enjoining good deeds is better than simply sighing.
I believe that when someone is rude to you they’re just jealous,
And sticking to Islam and good manners is always a must.
If my friends from school were to see me they’d think I’ve changed so much –
Many things I’ve abandoned and wrongdoings my limbs once touched.
I am Maryam –a Muslim and a friend you can always trust.

Mariam M. Poem
If you ask me, who are my favorite
Teachers at school –well, I’d say there are six;
All of them are good friends too, you know –they’re
Like a box of assorted chocolates!
Miss Latifa is Black American,
She’s the coolest expat teacher at school –
She’s like a basketball –fun to play with
But if it hits your head it might hurt –that’s
When she yells at you –if you break her rules.
Miss Sultana is from Oman. She is
Our friendly teacher in Geography –
Her smiles are as innocent as babies’
And when she speaks she does so like sweet flight
Attendants discussing airplane safety.
Miss Rasha is from Morocco, our tall
And pretty teacher who teaches us French
She may look like a Barbie doll but her
Class is like a movie that brings suspense
For the zeros we get are too intense…
Miss Heba is from Jordan. She teaches
Us Math in a very delightful way –
Although Math is a subject that I hate,
I enjoy all the games she’d let us play –
She’s like a cool breeze in a scorching day.
Teacher Mashaa’el, a Saudi local,
Teaches us Islam in the subject “Deen”.
She teaches as fast as a cheetah runs,
Yet her lessons are well-taught and clear –And
Speaks like she has a mike so all can hear!
Teacher ‘Aisha is Saudi-Syrian and
Is the most beautiful teacher at school!
In many ways she’s like a lioness
In terms of character and when she rules –
She hates fakes and students who act like fools.
They work together as a team of friends
Whose friendship is as tight as clips and glue
They’re loyal to Allah first and foremost
And faithfully obey all the school’s rules
They’re excellent leaders though they are few!
Note: This is a made-up poem, not based on any character in real life :)

Mariam M. Poem
Love and Follow Muhammad
(SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam)
If you ask me, why do I love him, the
Prophet Muhammad (May Peace be upon him) -
I love him because he cared about us
Muslims, and loving him is a condition –
If you love Allah, then love the Prophet
Muhammad – Allah loved him very much.
He was Allah's Final Messenger, and
The hearts of many did his mercy touch.
His beautiful character makes me admire
Him – his trustworthiness and honesty –
Even before he became God's Prophet,
Disbelievers knew that he was trustworthy.
I love the Prophet Muhammad because
Of good manners he was the best example.
I love how he was patient throughout his life
And how his morals were never skeptical.
He cared about his nation too, thus he taught
Us what we should know about our religion.
When given the chance he'd always educate,
Blessing us with advice through his companions.
As a father and grandfather, the Prophet
Muhammad was kind and tender loving.
His mercy to the poor, widows and orphans –
His good treatment of them is too astounding.
His tolerance, even to non-Muslim
Neighbors, is also something to be admired.
His mercy too was further manifest
Through his kind treatment of the slaves he hired.
As a leader – he was charismatic,
As a warrior – marked with strength and bravery,
As a family man – full of mercy,
And a husband who treated his wives fairly –
===> Part Two
Note: As a Muslim I believe in all of God's Prophets from Adam to Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ishmael, David, Solomon, Moses, Jesus and the final Messenger Muhammad may God's Peace and Blessings be on them all, they were all sent with the same message: to invite/call on others to believe in the One and Only God (Allah: The God -in Arabic) the God of everything and everyone :)

Mariam M. Poem
I’d rather read something for minutes eight
Than wait eight minutes for this site to load
For this slow net service I cannot wai
tI’d rather nap or simply stay at home
What makes this service too slow I wonder
Too many users online at this time?
Too many files on this old computer?
Way too many downloads? From many sites?
‘Tis time to stop wasting hours on the Net
‘Tis time to memorize from the Qur’an
Time to study for school, to be the best,
Seek knowledge offline as much as I can.
Farewell, Internet, I’ll come back later
When the net connection’s a lot faster :)

Mariam M. Poem
In the Name of Allah
The Most Gracious
The Most Merciful
11 Types Of FACEBOOK
Users
A poem about eleven
users
On FaceBook –Just
from my observation:
Not to brag nor to
annoy anyone -
This is to merely
share information.
In no particular
order, they are:
One: The talented
chefs who love to
cook.
They post pics of
their food so you’re
hungry…
At their masterpiece
they want you to
look.
They not only take
pics of what they
cook,
But also snap photos
of what they eat.
For them ‘food is
art’ and each time
they cook,
They see their
artwork as an
awesome feat.
Two: Gamers who play
online games too
much.
The wretched ones
among them miss
Salah.
Ask them why they
play DOTA, some
would say,
“We’re playing games
for the sake of
Allah!”
Don’t they know that
they are already in
A major and more
serious game called
‘Life’?
In life, there are
good deeds to
collect, ups
To amass, and sins
to snub to shun
strife.
Three: Models who
are in love with
themselves.
They take pics of
themselves almost
each day -
At school, some
beach, even in the
bathroom…
Funny thing is…
their pics look all
the same.
Four: The
chatterboxes… who
talk a lot,
Who post status
updates almost each
hour -
On childish things,
about people, and
their
Thoughts and
feelings which don’t
really matter.
They post without
thoughts as they do
offline.
They update their
status for
attention.
“Feeling bored”,
“feeling proud”,
“She smiled at me”,
“Hungry now”,
“Smelling feet”, “In
detention!”.
Five: Those people
who wish to be
famous
That they add too
many names on their
list -
Names of friends,
loved ones and
complete strangers -
To have more than
thousand “friends”
is their wish.
What’s funny is…
these folks compete
with their
Likes –they want to
have more number of
friends.
They go to a page,
add this and that
–their
Battle of fishing
for “friends” may
not end.
Six: The opposite of
five… they linger…
They go online yet
stay behind the
scenes.
Like spies, they
love to browse
through your pages -
Though they don’t
comment, they know
many things.
Seven: Family folks
who stay in touch -
To their list they
add only those they
love.
They’re online to
maintain family ties
-
For the sake of
Allah, the One
Above.
They like what you
share so you know
they care.
They often stop by
your wall to greet
you.
Friendly salaams and
‘Eid Mubarak!’,
their
Staying in touch
proves that their
love is true.

Mariam M. Poem
Poem: Will You Travel With Me To Heaven?
When you wake up in the morning
From a dream you think is okay
You see your spouse and family
Get ready for another day
The dream you saw, the things you see
The bed on which you soundly sleep
Your kids all grown up, your husband
And old memories that you keep
Who do you think created them?
Were they created from nothing?
If there is no god who made these
All, then what's the point of living?
D'you think we were made from nothing
Then from nothing we live for fun
To eat and drink, to love and hate
Then when we die, what comes is none?
The eyes with which your body sees
Those sockets that keep your eyeballs
The mouth you use for food and speech
The way you answer random calls
The languages you use to speak
And another –your mother tongue-
The way you carry yourself, and
How you breathe through your heart and lungs
The muscles that stretch when you smile
Your friends who often make you laugh
The words you try to understand
And how you sign your name so fast
Your kids who once stayed in your womb
The months you carried them in you
Your feelings when you saw their first
Walk and when they smile back at you
The food you eat and cook each day
The rainfalls that fall from above
The earth you walk on each night and
Day, and the things you've learned to love
The blood that flows 'neath your skin each
Hour, the foods you eat, sweet and sour
The clouds you see above your head
The scent of various plants and flowers
The many colors of people
You see, and many sounds you hear
All things in this universe make
You think that a God must be near
A God who is not in this world
But because of Lordship –Above-
Above the skies and on His Throne
Above anything you can think of
A God who is the Most Powerful
A God who does not eat or sleep
A God who is Above all things
A God who does not sweep the streets
A God who sees us all the time
A God who knows our hidden thoughts
A God who hears us all the time
A God who gives us lots and lots
A God who made this universe
A God who is the King of all
A God who knows the good and bad
A God who causes rain to fall
A God who made all kinds of colors
A God who rotates day and night
A God who knows all languages
A God who gave the moon its light
A God who knows the past and present
A God who sees the future of all
A God who gave all kinds of sounds
A God who gave all forms –short and tall

Mariam M. Poem
I am a Muslim: yes, I love Jesus –
For Jesus was a Prophet of Allah.
Jesus was a Muslim, so was Moses –
With David – their religion was Islam.
Allah – the Only God – The God of all –
Allah sent Prophets to call every one –
To worship One God – answer Allah’s call –
Prophets like Jonah, John, and Solomon –
Also Prophets were Prophet Abraham,
Prophet Ishmael, Jacob, and Isaac –
With Noah – they all believed in Islam –
With Muhammad – as their final and last.
Love Allah, and love His Last Messenger –
Muhammad, who owned the best character.
(SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)
________________________________________________
Do you know what Islam is?
Let me share with you some information
Some info about the faith I follow
Because I care, I need you to listen
Be open-minded. Be not shallow.
Islam is the faith that God gave us all
'Tis the religion that loves peace, not war.
'Tis the only faith that God can accept
- God's gift for all humankind – near and far –
Islam requires that we worship One God
Allah – who created all of mankind –
Islam is a great gift from God who cares
Who gave each of His slaves a thinking mind
I am a Muslim. My faith is Islam.
I believe in One God who made us all
Who sent Prophets to invite people to
Worship One God and answer Allah's Call
Do you know, Abraham's faith is Islam
Islam – the religion of God's Prophets
Prophets like Muhammad – the final one –
Prophets like David, Jesus, and Moses
It makes sense to worship just One God
Allah – the Just King and Owner of all –
The Creator who fashioned all of us
Who made things of various shapes – big and small –
It does not make sense if someone gives you
A gift from where you can learn many things
A gift that brings peace which you can share with
Loved ones – a gift that protects your well-being
It does not make sense if you are given
That special gift and you don't accept it
If you throw it away, you hurt that person
If you reject God's gift, you might regret it
So accept Islam – embrace it with love –
Islam – a gift from God who wants to guide
Islam – the only key to Paradise
Which only the wise and pure souls can find
