Sickness In My Soul

I’m in such a state of confusion,
I don’t understand what I’m doing
I know your there
And I know you care
But I can’t see you
I can’t hear you
I just don’t know what to do
I know your there in the stillness,
Waiting to heal this illness

There is a deep hole
A sickness in my soul,
Disease in the depths of my heart
 But How to fix it
I wouldn't know where to start
How it came to be
Is a deep mystery to me

I know that I am broken
We all are in some way
But rarely are these things spoken
Rarely do I have the courage to say
The secrets kept within
The depths of my sin

But if I hide it how can it be healed
 How can the healer heal?
If I keep my heart sealed
What if I let down my shield?

Will I be attacked or disgraced
Or will I be embraced
I’m too scared to find out
To be found out
So I hide my face

I only let people see part of me
I only let people get so close
I don’t want them to see
I don’t want them to know
And so I end up alone

I’ve been to the bar, the clubs,
All the social hubs
But no one cares about my hurts
 Life’s all about chasing skirts,
Fancy cars and nice shirts

Or is there something beyond drunken nights, and flashing lights
Is there something really worth living for, an open door to something more?
An invitation to a new destination
A path to peace, a sweet release
A new life to claim, an escape from the shame
I believe there is, some days I forget
But my life isn’t over yet

Tomorrow is a new day
I can live life your way
With love and peace
With guilt and shame released
With a new heart
And a new start
A reason to live
And something to give
To this broken earth
Of invaluable worth

At my very core
I know I was born for more
Than to live and to die
Without knowing why
I don’t have it all figured out
But I know without a doubt
That the world needs love
And that love comes from above
Because human love is not enough

That is why there is a deep hole
And a sickness in my soul
But to me has been revealed
The way to be healed

Now I have a mission
A reason for existence
To bring healing to the earth
To the unloved, the broken, the rejected
And tell them what they are worth
So that Jesus’ love will be reflected
And this love will give birth
To many people being resurrected,
Redirected and completely accepted
To a wonderful and glorious rebirth

Community

Community, what does it mean
And how does it come into being
Well what does the dictionary have to say
“A group of people living together in one place”

I guess that means were all in community
Though if I were to speak in honesty
It feels like we try to live separately
Living by the culture of our country

Which tells us, do it yourself
If your strong, you don’t ask for help
Life is about personal advancement
About money and accomplishments
Hold onto your hardships and pain
Keep striving for personal gain
So many lies deeply engrained
How will we create change?

Well I start with myself
I ask for help
I start with me
I be the change I want to see

I become an infectious contagion
In all of my relations
That could spread across a population
Even across the nations

I model my life after the master of love
Who dwells in the heavens above
He has brought millions even billions together
Over decades, centuries, even millenniums
So what else could be better
Than to faithfully follow him

He who said, I was anointed
to proclaim good news to the poor
to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free”

and I say yeah that’s who I want to be
But unless I engage in community
Unless I get to know my fellow human beings
How can I help to set them free

So its time for me to put aside
Popular culture, foolish pride
Social codes, selfish ambitions
Old roads, and useless traditions

And blaze a brand new trail
With my life, write a new tale
Introduce a new theme
Add in a few more characters
And then dare to dream
About how my story could impact theirs
And their’s impact mine

Because maybe just, maybe
It might be better, might just be
Not to say, I did it on my own
All this, look I did it alone
No maybe it would be better
If we did it together

So that no matter what my lot
I can always know that I’ve got
Friends, right until the very end
Help, ready to be sent
Hands willing to be lent
So what need would I have for advancement
For money and accomplishment

I can find all that I need
Everything I seek from this life,
In relationship with fellow human beings
Community, Maybe this is what it means

Thoughts and Dreams

So many dreams, so many thoughts
Going through my mind
Although it seems, I may have lots
I still need to find

A way to put these dreams,
These thoughts into motion
Because sometimes is seems,
I just make a commotion

About the good that could be done
About how I should act
About the direction I could run
About how I should react
To each and every one

But what good are my thoughts
What good are my dreams
Unless I find the means
To make them a reality
Unless I find a way
To make them part
Of each and every day

So I won’t just think about
And then right away doubt
The good that could be done
The way I could act
The direction I could run
The way I could react
To each and everyone
The victory that could be won

Instead when I see
The part I could play
I won’t doubt but believe
That there is a way
To put these dreams
These thoughts, into action
Because now it seems
It might give me satisfaction

To be the person, to be the one,
Who doesn’t just dream
About the direction he could run
Who doesn’t just think
About the victory. that could be won
But does the things,
 the thoughts and dreams
That have long been, left undone

A New Day, a New Dawn

A new day, a new dawn
Last year is gone
A new hope, a new cheer
This year is here

The beginning of a new year
A time for new starts
The beginning of a new year
The hope of many hearts

When the clock strikes midnight
The whole world goes alight
When the clock strikes midnight
Our spirits take flight

With the hope of a new day , a new dawn
Because Last year is gone

But isn’t it a little strange
That we think this way
Because today is
just the same
As any another day

Every day has a midnight
Every day has new light
Every day has a dawn
And every yesterday is gone
Every day can be a new start
And every day we can have hope in our hearts

So this year live every day with a resolution
To make your life a glowing contribution
To your family, your friends and to your world
So that when the hope of new years is gone
Every day will be a new day
Every day will have a new dawn
And every yesterday will be gone

Quit My Job, Smashed My Car

Quit my job, smashed my car
My back does throb, need to learn guitar

So I can make, a silly song
And I can sing, it all day long
About how, my God is strong
So that even now, nothing’s wrong

Even though, I quit my job
smashed my car, my back does throb

Life is hard, but I’ve got God
So I won’t let any thought
Any worry or fear
Convince me you’re not near

Even when, I quit my job,
Smashed my car, my back does throb
Life is hard, but I won’t sob
I need to learn guitar

A Better Life

I tried so hard to do what’s right
I wrestled through those lonely nights
I longed so long
 To see the light
But I could not see it
‘Til I gave up the fight

All my problems all my fears
All my issues and my tears
My brokenness my sorrow
The worries of tomorrow
I gave them away
Turned a new page
Lived a new way
What can I say?

There is a better life, a fuller life
A masterful maker, a caring creator
With love, a perfect love
He’s more than enough

 With him we are unstoppable
We accomplish the improbable
Prison cannot hold us
Sin cannot bind us
Walls will be broken
Words will be spoken
When evil meets us that’s fine
Into the darkness we will shine

With confidence we press onward
With faith we move forward
We look to a better future
In our salvation we are sure

True Beauty

Back to the jungle once again
A long journey has come to an end
Over the clouds, through the hills
and down the river I have came
Everything is a little different
But somewhat the same

Here lie a people that used to be slaves
It was on this river they made their escape
Here they built houses of wood and stone
And created a place they could call their own
They make their living off the land
By the work of many strong hands

They have built this vibrant community
That my eyes have been privileged to see
By a glance all I may see is poverty
By a closer look, I now see true beauty
And not merely the endless scenery
or the luscious foliage and greenery

But in the people I have come to serve
And in turn who I have let serve me
In ways it feels, I truly don’t deserve
So listen closely, let me tell you a story

Mothers and daughters down by the water
Beating laundry with paddles, the sun grows hotter
I approach with my boots covered in junk
I place them in the water with a soft plunk

I attempt to remove the thick red clay
she takes them from me and washes away
She scrubs until there is no sign
of any speck of dirt or grime

Thank you very much is all I can say
I now ponder would I do the same?
If the situation were reversed
Do I really believe the first will be last
And the last will be first?

Can I honestly say that I would choose
to take the grimy, muddy, dirty shoes
of a foreigner I hardly even know?
Would I humble and bring myself low?
In all honesty I really don’t know

But therein lies the true beauty,
I now see
Amidst what appears by a glance,
 to be poverty
So don’t merely judge by what you see,
 but believe
that beyond the poverty,
 there may be
A true beauty, yet to be seen

A Prayer of Healing

A prayer of hope, for healing and restoration
Many are praying for you
When our God answers. a grand celebration
There will be for you

So hold on tight, keep up the fight
because soon you will see the light, soon you will be alright
He will wipe away every tear from your eyes
So don’t listen to the enemy’s lies
Let nothing but the peace of God, dwell in your mind

There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain
Only the soft sound and embrace of healing rain

Because He is making everything new,
and His words are trustworthy and true
And as you remain in Him, His word remains in you
And His word will bring you through

Until then we keep on praying for you, child of God
We lift you before Him, in our hearts and thoughts
So keep fighting, keep strong
Better days are coming, It won’t be long

Ready To Run

I am in a race, to see the face of faith
I am on a ride, to see the world unified
I am on a train, to the end of pain
On a jumbo jet, free from all my debt

Sounds too good to be true
But hey it worked for me
And it can work for you
One day you’ll see
And when you do
You’ll be free too

You’ll be walking down a new road
And no longer will you carry that load
Your regrets, your mistakes
Your pain and your heartaches
No, none of that will compare to what lies ahead
In the greatness of his plan, your past is dead

Nothing in this world will make you cower
Your mind will become a strong tower
Your life, a testament to His power
So what are you waiting for?
Get on board, Get ready to run
This is not a chore, this is fun

This is not just a rule book
Not just a good boy’s guide to life
Come, take a closer look
Get ready to jump, ready to dive
Into the most important mission
 You could ever accept
A grand adventure, a most epic quest
Put your worries to rest
Because this is what's best

 In these last few years
Though there has been pain
And there have been tears
My life has completely changed
I used to be filled with fear
I was frightened by failure
Now I've been to the jungles of Ecuador
Three times already, soon to be four

I used to be bound by addiction
My heart in a state of affliction
Now I am set free
To live with integrity
No more distractions
To delay me from action

And this life is only just beginning
This is only the first chapter
Here is my point
Christ is not about not sinning
Not just about avoiding the rapture
No He has far greater plans than that
More than our imaginations can capture
Plans for both you and me
To take part in a glorious adventure,
To fulfill our destiny
So what are you waiting for?
Get on board, get ready to run
This is not a chore, this is fun!

A Fight For the Light

I hear a cry from the world
A desperate longing for air
But how can I feed the poor
And what food can I spare

There is a knocking at the door
In his hand is something priceless
Worth more than any stone
Something that would feed them all

He knocks but very few answer
What he holds in his hands they mock
Isn’t anybody there?
Many talk but don’t know how to walk

I myself have let fear take hold
But fear will not reign in me
Things will happen before I grow old
Many beyond what I can see

I’ve answered the door I know what to do
I’ve seen the light, if only they knew too
Fear has taken hold
But it’s time to be bold

The one I spoke with at the door
He gave me some seeds
He said I have a small chore
Could you please plant these?
I had many questions you see
But his answer was simple
All he said was follow me

And so I began on a journey
After taking a refreshing bath
With my hand full of seeds
I began on the narrow path

I followed the light of the one at the door
He said plant these seeds and I will give you more
I began to search for somewhere to plant
But the voice in my head said you can’t, you can’t

The light is moving ahead
But I am frozen still
Being torn to a shred
The voice says, what about your bill?

Suddenly I look up and realize the light is far away
And I recall that one small, simple command
I ask myself, how could I have gone astray.
Then I remembered the seeds still in my hand

 As I realized my inadequacies
I was lifted up on the wings of a great white dove
Soaring over the trees
I saw all the others on the path from above

I watched them clawing their way through all kinds of trouble
I wanted them to be as I was, soaring above the world
I felt like I was safe here watching the world turn to rubble
Until flying from the opposite direction
Came a pretty looking girl

She said come with me I’ll show you my world
I gazed at her, enticed by her beauty
Distracted I fell, and back to the ground I was hurled
When I opened my eyes she was not to be seen

But the light it was still there
It never fades, never dies
As long as I still breathe this air
The light never ceases to shine

I realized now that I was a liar
To think that I was any higher
Without that great dove
The power from above
I stand on level ground
With everyone around
So what right have I to look down?

Though fear has ceased me, pride has made a fool of me, and temptation has lured me
I can still see what lies ahead, should I march towards the light
I may fall again, but I can always open my eyes and see
That though this journey may take a lifetime, it’s worth the fight
