Invincible Summer

I wish I had within me
Where I often could release
The heat of summers' sunshine
To escape Decembers' freeze.

A space - beside my bones
Where I could taste the feel of warm
And conjure up a bright sky
To replace a snowy storm.

I wish I lived year round
And had an ocean as my view;
Where sun shone on the waves
And skies were almost always blue.

I wish I had within me -
Constant as the rising moon
A summer - quite invincible
To mimic days of June.

I wish I could awaken
By the warm and sandy shore;
The sound of gentle waves
I'd hear outside my cottage door.

I wish that winter-time
Was where I'd visit, here and there.
A day or two vacation -
Than head back to warmer air.

And if my bones and joints
Could scream out how they really feel -
You'd hear them beg for warmer days
And sun to make them heal.

So for now, I wish, within me
I could choose, and I'd belong
To just one season for my soul
And summer all year long

While He Sleeps

If being with the one you love
Is tearing your apart;
If there's an aching or a need
Within your tired heart.
If you're still lonely in the night
While he lays by your side;
If something gained is something lost -
Is something special's died...

Well, After all, remember,
It's a pattern of the plan;
You can't create a lover
From a dull, inactive man.
You're dreaming of the better times;
He's napping, snore by snore.
You think about this love
And wonder where it's headed for.

There are no words of wisdom
Written there upon the page.
There are no drugs or cures to help
Slow down the signs of age.
He must grow old while you grow young -
It's him who pays the cost.
Sleep's a lonely thing
When something gained is something lost.
