If You Were

If you were vapor I could live off of you,
And when there was none of you left to breathe I’d be through.

If you were water I’d drink you all up,
Because I want all of you, there’d be nothing left in my cup.

If you were a disease I’d want you in my body still,
Because I want you to be a part of me, so dying with you would be my will.

If you were a tiger I wouldn’t care if you weren’t tame,
Just to lie beside you for a moment would be worth the life of my name.

If you were a purse my most prized possessions would you hold,
The store would be disappointed to find the best item in the world to me had they
sold.

If you were a bird I’d clip your wing so that from me you could never fly,
It would break my heart to see you flying away from me into the endless sky.

If you were on a farm and were a stack of hay,
I would lay with you all around me a soak up the sun each day.

If you were a house I’d have to live there,
Because where you are is home, being without you I couldn’t bear.

If you were a flower you’d be the only smell I’d long for,
No other smell would be as fulfilling forevermore.

If you were a street you each day would I drive,
Just being in your presence would keep my soul alive.

If you were a sweater in you would I constantly dress,
To be able to wear you as a part of me would be heaven, nothing less.

If you were a song I’d sing you everywhere I went,
Because any words of yours are surely God sent.

If you were a criminal I would hate that you committed a crime,
But you should know that I’d be waiting to be in your arms after you finished your
time.

If you were a book I’d read you from cover to cover and never quit,
I want to know everything about you so that together we will always fit.

If you were glue to you myself I would stick,
Because without you by my side I am emotionally sick.

If you were a pool I’d swim in your being,
Just to have you all around me would me amazing and worth seeing.

If you were the president I’d stand by your every choice,
And it would remind me of my love for you just to hear your voice.

If you were ever aware of how much I love you
You would be thoroughly surprised to know it was true.

Teach Me

Teach me not to loathe,
Yet give me endless reasons to.

Teach me to be strong,
Yet break me into pieces.

Teach me to be understanding,
Yet don't give me one reason to understand.

Teach me not to yell,
Yet yell at me and cause me to.

Teach me to keep my mouth shut,
Yet allow yours to verbalize everything.

Teach me not to hurt others,
Yet hurt me incessantly.

Teach me to be compassionate,
Yet never display compassion yourself.

Teach me about being independent,
Yet don’t give me an opportunity to be.

Teach me to be trustworthy,
Yet don’t give me a chance to validate myself.

Teach me to be pardoning,
Yet never pardon me.

Teach me to follow rules,
Yet don’t adhere to the rules yourself.

Teach me to respect others viewpoints and thoughts,
Yet never respect mine.

Teach me everything I need to know to live in this world,
Yet demonstrate how useless everything you taught me really is to you.
