Keep On

Sometimes,
When I find that life's not fair,
When Isee that fortune, love, and friendship look away from me,
I stare at the cards that life places in my hands, and,
I move them around a bit and try to find
their highest value for moving on this rough-rough road.
That's all.

Just keeping on,
moving on, moving those cards until
I see my best hand taking shape from within itself
, perhaps my own potential - possibilites.

It may be a metaphor for "hope" ,

that inner voice that tells me
"just one more step man -
just one more breath-
just once more over that next hill -
just one more day -
just one more mile -
just -Keep On!

Puppies

Puppies

Wintry mornings greet
Waggy tails and little paws
My old toes are warm

An Introduction

An Introduction

I come well worn from decades past
Not torn but well defined
A spirit found at last
And here upon this shore
With universal twine
Aligned

Monchi

It's been ten years or more since,
We last shared a spoken word or,
Broken bread at the same table.

You left so suddenly with no goodbyes,
No exchange of long goodbyes that,
Would normally precede departing.

The ponderosa pines you planted have,
Long since grown so high that they,
Almost touch the passing clouds.

Early Spring

Early Spring this year,
Brings sunshine, bees, and flowers,
Backyard barbecues.

The Second Person

The Second person seems to be a safer place to hide,
One can always deny the allegation from behind,
Yet second persons seem to follow much too near,
And point the accusations to the marrow.

First person's much more abrupt and "in your face",
Acknowledges the age spot growing near the ear,
But age spots aren't so rare, you know,
I see so many everwhere I go.

Morning Coffee

Morning coffee, aromatic
meets with slumbering, lumbering me
Drawing towards salvation,

"Cream & Sugar?" asks my Guardian Angel,
"Just a little," me replies - avoiding gluttony,
Which keeps me from salvation.

Once more the ritual,
Rebirth - a new day,
Another choice of sweaters.

Respite

Missing it all again
Between the raindrops
Beneath the water's surface
Believing all gets ruined
But moving forward just a step
By step. By step. By step
Covers so much ground
To endings & beginnings
Missing it all again.

Port wine tawny red,
My companion pours a dream
between the nightmares howling
A brief respite from the hurricane
Moving, circular and rounding
A corner on Mesa street
Crossroad and corners
between the nightmares
Pouring forth another dream
And respite in your eyes.

Sunlit meadows in the Spring
Are your eyes
Illuminating, captivating,
Springs of clear and sparkling waters,
Quenching thirst and longing
Belonging in the moment.
Sunlit meadows are your eyes
That hold my heart in a moment
Longing to remain forever
With sunlit meadows in Spring.
