I Am Woman, Fear Me!

Pretty, lovely,
Beautiful, Stunning
I am woman,
Fear me!

Sassy, saucy,
Feisty, spunky
I am Woman,
Fear me!

Smart, intelligent,
Bright, clever
I am Woman,
Fear me!

Independent, free,
Autonomous, Self-sufficient
I am Woman,
Fear me!

Fear me because I am:
Pretty, sassy, smart, independent!
Fear me because these things
Are a danger mix and explosive combination

Fear me because one day
You'll have to answer to me.
Fear me because soon you'll look up
For advice and I'll be the face there.

Fear me because to you
Women should have no power.
Fear me because to me
I will have more power than you.

I am a woman,
Fear me!
Fear me!
I am a Woman!

Tears and Rainbows

Teardrops fall
From my bloodshot eyes.

Falling from my dark,
Black, cloudy skies.

Tears release heartache,
Misery and pain.

Like the earth is cooled
By drops of refreshing rain.

If my eyes are dry
And tears never flow

Then my soul
Won’t experience any rainbows

To a Granchile

Let me tell you something sweetie
Let me tell you something chile
Come ova heyah
And talk to gran’ma fo’ a while

I see yo’ face is twist’d
And yo’ eyes is dark and they is cold
I rarely see that in tha young ones
But mos’ly in those who old

I’s watched yo thro’out
Yo hectic and unstable life
Taking on so much grief
And havin to deal with so much strife

I see yo hearts been hardened
And yo eyes dey look so bad
And for a young one
This is very, very bad

You is supposed ta know sunshine
And have some blue skies
Not have so much pain
That’s darkened them bright eyes

Now ya see I’ve climbed some mountains
And been in some valley’s low
There wus some times
I aint know where to go

But I got through
Thas why I stand befo’ you now
To tell ya that you can make it
Some way and some how

You see man is a terrible creatura’
And will treat ya bad
He’ll make you spit, make a curse
And jus make ya’ mad

Man will say that you can’t make it
And that you aint very sma’t
Well darlin’ I’m here to tell ya
That life is a art

You have to masta it
Like some math or some clay
And once you do, Ha!
What will man have ta say

He’ll be so angry at you
For provin him wrong
That he’ll say
Yo’ success aint gonna last long

But ignore ‘em
And hold yo head high
Why honey if you want
You can touch da sky

Now rememba these words
That yo gran’ma say to you
And in times of trouble
They’ll bring ya through

Mistreatment

You look at me
And all you see are flaws
Ad you judge

From your unconstructive criticism
You will not yield
Or even budge

You possess the knack
Or ability
To leave me feeling low

Like I am dumb or stupid
But it’s something
That you already know

You leave me feeling
Unwanted, dirty
Unloved and ashamed

Instead of being proud
You make me
Hate what I was named

You’ve taken away
Every ounce of confidence
And also my self-esteem

You’ve managed
To destroy all my hopes
And even my dreams

You’ve taken my trust
In anything
That is good

You make me believe
That I will forever
Remain misunderstood

I Won'T Be Ignored

I'm here.
I'm there.
I'm all around.
I will make myself known.
You act like I'm not here,
And I don't exist. So you turn your back,
But I will not be ignored.

I want...
Your attention,
Your love,
Your understanding.
But I continue to be...
Ignored,
Pushed away,
unacknowledged.

I give my all,
But in return
I get
Not even half if you.

Black Beauty

Like the Nubian princess she is, she rises above the dust and ashes she calls
her life.
This life has continuously given her heartache. Blow after blow, she takes them
all.
Battered bruised, dazed, confused, tore up she does not know what to do.
Many times she has been scorned, lied to, cheated on, and trampled all over.
She has been a dumping ground for insults, stereotypes, hateful words.
Harlot, stupid, disappointment she has heard them all.
Love is foreign to her, but hate is something that is all too familiar.
Life she has never seen, but death is all around her.
To her goodness no longer exists.
Evil rains like acid all around her.
It eats through her flesh and devours her soul.
But she has survived and is growing a new, warm soul.

The Street On a Rainy Day

Raindrops fall without ceasing
My worry inside starts decreasing

The drops fall gently around me
I fall down on one knee

And I begin to cry aloud
Not caring if I draw a crowd

I cry to alleviate my pain
Under the drops of cool rain

I am soaked with rain and tears
Trying hard to confront my fears

My hands cover my face
Desperately trying for hurt to erase

Body shaken by large sobs
Up and down my head bobs

I outstretch my arms and hands
Unable with my feet to stand

The rain stops and I move to my feet
Removing myself from the middle of the street

I dry my eyes and walk away
Still with my lips no words to say

Some pain is released but much remains
Some was alleviated by the rains

Tormented By Longing

Love, I cannot stand you being away
I am not sure that I can survive another day
Without your soothing, gentle, tender touch
Oh, I long to hold you ever so much
Just the thought of your warm, inviting smile
Could make me swim a hundred miles
I am you and you are me
Like pieces of a puzzle we fit perfectly
Without you nothing feels right
I wish that you could hold me tight
I can almost feel your breath upon my cheek
The thought of your sensual lips makes me weak
My thoughts wonder to the night me consummated our love
It was as if a light came shining from above
You are truly a gift that is heaven sent
So why now from you am I rent?
Lying in bed alone is such cruelty.
Why won’t you hurry back to me?
I love you dear with all of me
I cannot wait for you to come back and see

Mine

You were brought to me
Through a couple hours of pleasure
Followed by many hours of pain.

You brought with you sunshine
Getting rid of so many clouds And so much rain.

Each day, I gaze at you
Because I love you
And you are God's gift.

With you I'm never down
Because you smile
And my spirits it lifts.

I love your little nose
And that beautiful dimple
I could kiss it all day long.

Just the touch of your finger
Makes me write poetry
And even sing songs.

I can think of no happier day
Then when in my life
You so graciously came.

My heart leaps
And my soul jumps
At the mere mention of your name.

As we both grow
Before my eyes
You try to be so strong.

But you know
That you still need me
To help you along.

For all the days
Of your life
And of mine.

I love you
With the love
Of one-thousand hearts combined.

Your Choice

Love will last
If you want it to

People don't fall out
Of love just because they do

That is a choice
That you must make

An some steps
That you must take

Love doesn't evaporate
Into thin air

People have to choose
Whether or not to care

You choose to fall in love
So you choose to get out

Most people don't realize
What it's all about

Love is a choice
Simples and plain

It's your choice
If it's in vain
