A Palindrome Tale

A Palindrome Tale

I’ve got a tale to tell you of travel, love and lust
The travel, it was joyful, my love life was a bust
I met a girl in Tulsa, next day my diary read
A **** nixes sex in Tulsa; “Dammit, I’m mad” I said
So I went off to Europe to see the Mona Lisa
I thought it was in Italy; but as I pee, sir, I see Pisa!
A Delia saw I was ailed; I’m a fool; aloof am I
When she offered me spaghetti, I said “I prefer pi”
And then I found Naomi – Naomi did I moan?
I did, did I? I can not lie. I headed back to home
And then I met this Madam; as mad as Adam, she
Evil did I dwell, lewd I did live; God saw I was dog tired
Live not on evil they did say; Then my luck expired
Revered now, I live on. O did I do no evil I wonder ever
No sir, panic is a basic in a prison where I dwelt
Ned, I am a maiden; not a banana baton had I felt

Picky Eaters

This poem was inspired by Dr. Mehta's poem on Childhood Obesity.

Our Mom made us sit and sit
Until we’d eaten every bit
She said “there’s starving kids in China
Africa and Asia Mina”
We kids said then send it to ‘em
Broccoli, spinach – we don’t do ‘em
But Mom, she would have none of that
So all us kids just sat and sat
Until our Mom just shook her head
Said “you’re finished – go to bed”
Then we all stood up one by one
Thinking all that we had won
But truth be told, we didn’t beat her
No we all are picky eaters
So many things we just won’t taste
Picky eaters – such a waist

Mdailey	5/25/11

And before you draw my attention to the spelling of waist – it was intended as most
of us picky eaters tend to go for meat and potatoes that go right to our waist. But I
guess could have used waste as well in that last line.

A Little Hill In Arlington

A Little Hill in Arlington

There’s a little hill in Arlington
Where no bodies are interred
Yet crosses dot the hillside
And Taps are sometimes heard

Unlike the Unknown Soldier
With “unknowns” in the ground
This little hill in Arlington
Is for soldiers never found

I grew up without a father
He was gone when I was four
Flying for the Air Force
Back in the Korean War

His plane was ore’ the Azores
When communications ceased
The search went on for days and days
They never found a piece

My mother raised four children
Each day she learned to cope
She said until a body’s found
We’d never give up hope
The years went by just waiting
And my mother, bless her soul
Held on until her very end
To a grieving widow’s role

For fifty years we children
Had no resting place for Dad
No gravesite and no marker
No closure ever had

Then on little hill in Arlington
Where no bodies are interred
We raised a simple white cross
Dad’s Taps were finally heard

My big sister got the folded flag
And we all shed the tears
That had been bottled up inside us
For all those fifty years

Now Dad, he has a resting place
With other fallen sons
On a quiet little hillside
Right here in Arlington

Rock, Paper, Scissors

I have a theory to test
I always thought scissors was best
When I throw scissors down
A rock comes around
I should have done paper I guess

Next time it is paper I throw
And just like that don’t you know
His scissors appears
And my paper it shears
A rock would have won it and so

The next time it’s rock in my hand
I’ll win it this time – I’m the man
Then his paper comes out
Wraps my rock without doubt
This game I just don’t understand

But you know the next time we meet
He’ll be the one that is beat
I just have to think through it
Don’t know how I’ll do it
But somehow I’ll learn how to cheat

The Truth

It’s true that I have cancer
Not true that it has me
For I choose to live my life
As full as it can be
It’s true they did some cutting
To get the cancer out
But I’m still fighting cancer
And it is quite a bout
It’s true that I’ll do chemo
And chemo makes you sick
While chemo kills the cancer
That’s not what makes me tick
For me, it’s love of family
My daughter and my wife
And I’ll have a brand new grandchild
And that – to me – is life
Each moment that I’m living
My love for them grows strong
And loving equals living
That’s what keeps me going on
So it’s true that I have cancer
Not true that it has me
And like a wise man said once
The truth shall set you free.

The Devil You Say

I just can't win said the devil one day
I lie and I cheat and I lead them astray
Then along comes this guy who's the light and the way
Who always forgives them whenever they pray
And the prayers they are praying all keep me at bay
Sure I'll keep on trying but like all losers say
I just can't win

Bull Moose

Bull Moose
I was sitting on a rock out near Cripple Creek
Panties at my ankles, I had to take a leak
He sauntered out beneath a tree
Stopped and simply looked at me
Old grey legs, a lengthy beard
Eight foot tall he had appeared
Shoulder, hump and head held high
Antlers reaching to the sky
No pack of wolves, no big bad bear
This guy attacked, they wouldn’t dare
For with his rack and slashing hooves
This forest beast had deadly moves
But getting back to what I did
Wet panties up my legs I slid
Off the rock so quick I ran
Friends all giving me a hand
I laughed and cried once in the car
This memory a lasting scar
For friends told friends and they told friends
And round and round it never ends
So if you’re up on Cripple Creek
And find yourself a need to leak
Leak with caution - be aware
This old Bull Moose still lives up there

Uncle Mike

True story I believe. There was a picture of a moose on facebook along with a description of its size and actions. One comment was from a female friend of the poster about her encounter. I put the two together as a poem.

A Squirrel Cried

A Squirrel Cried

I heard outside a mournful sound
I went outside to look around
A squirrel cried for heaven’s sake
Cried as if he heart did break
A from the corner of my eye
I saw a pair of wings fly by
Wings that took off for the trees
I saw at once the squirrel freeze
I ran to see where it had flown
A nearby tree on the golf course zone
And when I got under that tree
A great big hawk looked down at me
Then once again the bird set sail
Within his grasp, a squirrel’s tail
And I too then got glassy eyed
For I knew why the squirrel cried

true story - happened in my backyard yesterday morning. the squirrel continued to cry for about 30 minutes. I think it was a young squirrel that lost its mother.

Superman

Today’s the day that Superman
Fell to earth and couldn’t stand
He lit upon his neck all wrong
And found he was no longer strong
His super powers gone all right
His horse’s name – old Kryptonite

Mdailey	5/27/11

Actor Christopher Reeve (Superman) was paralyzed when thrown from his horse
during a jumping event in Charlottesville, Virginia on May 27, 1995

Amber Liquid

Life without her soldier lover
Years in which she’ll not recover
From the news she got today
That her husband’s MIA
Not a trace of wreckage found
Just a note – his plane’s gone down
Now she’ll raise the kids alone
In a house not quite a home
Her husband just a memory
In her life that used to be
With ample amber liquid yet
She’ll try her best then to forget
