Patti Pedrus Poem
I live on an island in the Pacific region
The largest body of water is the OCEAN
Like, can we be more Pacific?
I think Christopher Columbus got lost
Because the directions were not pacific
Oh, excuse me, the Pacific Ocean
Where you will find the small islands (micronesia)
Where you will find the black islands (melanesia),
Where you will find the many islands (polynesia)
Generally, the islanders are like coconuts
So hard on the outside
But succulent on the inside
Yet they always end up wanting Samoa
Get this,
An assault by an Islander
is called a Hawaiian Punch
At times, these islands need a therapist when they are in a tropical depression
Some islands have sunk
Oh no do not laugh
That is not funny atoll
Sea yourself out
Therefore, I live on an island
A small island
I am a MICRO
I mean, how can I get more pacific than that?

Patti Pedrus Poem
The island
Once naive
now tainted
by the winds of change
Once native
now giving birth
to a race of diverse cultures
Once a peaceful place
now disturbed
by a rapid modern world
The island
Once their home
our home
my home
has become an uncertain place in the heart

Patti Pedrus Poem
Since the dawn of time
Poems have conceived in the minds of mankind
Engraved on their hearts
Lived through life’s parts
Beckoning to take heed
For no poem should be left behind
Poems of Birth
Poems of Rebirth
Poems of Celebration
Poems of Suffering
Poems of Death
These poems speak about life
They speak to the eyes
They speak to the ears
They speak to the mouths
They speak to the hands
They speak to the feet
For no poem should be left behind
As life's toils encroach upon thee
Let thy be reminded of those poems
Poems of ending poverty
Poems of reducing inequalities
Poems of addressing discriminatory barriers
Such poems have summoned prioritization
Such poems have summoned fast tracking action
Heed to such poems
For they pave the way for those left behind
Those with less access to health
Those with less access to education
Heed their pleas for a life of dignity
When life's toils encroach upon thee
Let thy be reminded of the power of those poems
For no poem should be left behind
When life's pleasures enrapture thee
Empower those left behind
Share a poem to them
A poem of birth
A poem of rebirth
A poem of celebration
A poem of suffering
A poem of death
For no POEM should be left behind

Patti Pedrus Poem
COVID-19?
What have you not heard about it?
It’s all over the place
In my face
In your face
In our faces
Only to instill fear
The fear of losing
The fear of dying
Panicking
Rushing
Fidgeting
Pacing
Unsettling
But, we have to be still
And everything became still
It seemed the air became fresher
It seemed the land was not stressed
It seemed the water was clear
It became clear
We had been destroying our environment
With all the everyday bustling
BUT that didn’t last
Because COVID-19 remains an enigma
No, it is not a figment of our imagination
It is a nuisance
An interference
And people want to break free
People want to break free from the stillness
People want to keep moving
Moving forward
Some say the end times is creeping upon us
With Floods
With Fires
With Earthquakes
Destroying lands
Killing people
COVID-19 is the signal of our earth gone bad
Because our sins have gone mad
COVID-19 is a sign that the end is near
When those who have been faithful to God
Will ascend to heaven
When those who have not been faithful to God
Will descend to hell
So, let us take heed and prepare ourselves
For the day will come when the Lord will return
And we must be prepared
So then, can we try and live in harmony with nature?
Can we try and keep it simple?
Or have we progressed so fast we do not know what it really means to be still?
COVID-19, will you come to an end
Or will you overcome the world?

Patti Pedrus Poem
As the world turns
There is only one life to live
A life that beckons us to take it one day at a time
Or else the heart of living will be missed
God gave us life to live according to his will
He gave us a mind to create beauty
He gave us a heart to appreciate beauty
And he gave us a body to apply the principles of beauty
The Bible teaches that whatever is just, whatever is
pure, whatever is lovely and worthy of praise, let our
minds dwell on these things
For the mind conceives what is to become
As the world turns
there is indeed one life to live
A life of fulfillment in the Lord
For without God, there is nothing
but Nothingness

Patti Pedrus Poem
There was a time..............
WHEN purity and innocence prevailed
WHEN the island was saturated with
prolific rows of coconut trees
grounded in fertile soil
WHEN the land was richly decorated
with bountiful trees that bore
tropical fruits
WHEN native people lived in humble
abodes and nurtured the virgin land
WHEN the sultry air was gorged with a
mesmerizing aroma
WHEN there was peace of mind
and spiritual awakening of the indigenous soul prevailed
Standing still in the center of a
vast ocean, it was untouchable
There was a time.............
when purity and innocence prevailed

Patti Pedrus Poem
I opened my eyes
and there I was
sitting on a clear white sandy beach
I began to take note of my colorful
surroundings
My eyes carefully wandered
until they rested upon the beautiful sight
of the clear mass of salted water
My ears were consumed by the gushing sounds
of its crystal-like waves
My nose deeply inhaled its sea-weed aura
of the underwater world
My mind was at ease and my heart was fulfilled
as I closed my eyes once again
There I became one with my natural surroundings
meshed with the exotic sights
pleasant sounds
and a rich aroma
each experience reminding me
of the simplicities of life

Patti Pedrus Poem
A Germanic Language
Second most spoken in the world
Angles
Saxons
Jutes
From Angles were Engles
Whose language was Englisc
Thus from Europe
ENGLISH was born!
Traveling through inscriptions
Alphabets
Borrowed words
In Norms
In French
Named Old English
Middle English
Modern English
And now with many
Descendants
English in the Pacific
by whaling ships and colonizers
Official language of the islands
Meshed with island vocabulary
English has become a legend in our vocabulary
