Raven

Raven by Kaitlin Griel for Among the Dead contest

Death hangs at my side
It lingers knowingly at my feet
It spreads for miles as far as I can see

I tower over the bodies and souls
That lie in the ground beneath me
Trapped in the heavy grasp of death

He’s coming after me now
But I have been running too long
I can’t get away from him

He does not frighten me
But I don’t want him to possess my soul
I want it to fly free like a black raven

I’ll take my own life, a shot in the dark
And hope I make it out of here
Because I am a Raven, waiting to be free

New Beginning

Without love I'll never find,
The only one that's on my mind.

The one to fix my broken heart,
The one to make forever start.

I've waited many years for you,
The one to make my dreams come true.

I've never had a second thought,
I've never hung up on your faults.

I've always loved you as you are,
Your'e my light my shining star.

Winter's Worst Wonderland

My heart is like the icicles that fall from the roof,
As they shatter on the pavement below,
All that’s left is the cold and broken truth,
Making me think I’ll never see another hello,
Like the snow that falls from the sky,
And the ice that covers the frozen ground,
Reveals a haunting picture as to why,
With this memory I am so tightly bound.

Wintertime

Summer sets
The cold blows in
Bringing chills to my spine

Heavy fall of snow
White illuminating the night
Dreams freeze like icicles

Wind stings my face
Shakes the leaves
Leaving the trees bare

It whistles a song
Across the horizon
Of wintertime

Blind

What if we were meant to be,
You’re the one that cannot see.

I love you with all my heart,
Even with the broken parts.

Everything I see in you,
Is showed in different shades of blue.

The sparkle that is in your eye,
Makes me smile don’t know why.

You’re the one that’s in my dreams,
Only one I love it seems.

I need you to feel the same,
You’re the one that feeds my flame.

Stepping back and looking in,
Loving you should be a sin.

I don’t know quite how you feel,
But for me I know its real.

Look inside and you will find,
Oh how can you be so blind.

Surrounded

Behind a sheet of glass,
I watch as all the people that pass,
Never notice me standing here,
Lost in my own fear.

Of being saved,
And being helped,
Who I will be when I get out of here,
I’ve known far too many tears.

The people seem so joyous,
With the many smile’s that I see,
It makes me wonder if I will smile again,
Like I did before this tragedy.

They give me hope,
To help me believe,
That I can make it out of this,
All I hear is words,
They have no meaning to me.

Like how the rain falls,
And causes such dread,
Locked inside these walls,
I’m going out of my head.

I still remember that day,
When she helped me get out,
A sweet little child went out of her way,
To knock on the glass.
