Future So Bright

I traded my soul
For control of many riches
Not all are born with wealth
One of lifes' many glitches
Maybe one day
If I pray hard and long
I'll live without a problem
And nothin will go wrong
Many times thinkin
I would be broke bound
Another person in the streets
Scrapin pennies off the ground
A bottle to my lips
Body going numb
Sleepin in a shelter
Always beggin for a crumb
Seen it many times
Don't wanna be a stat
Livin without love
In the alley like a cat
Just for one time
Wish karma would come my way
Every night thinkin
Tomorrow's another day
Thank God I've got my family
Who's there and got my back
Now at the train station
On a one way track
Mind feelin strong
Vision much clearer
Lookin straight ahead
Never glancin out the mirror
Not stoppin at the sign
Always starin at the light
With the sun shinin down
I know my future's bright

Roses In the Sand

A place of long ago
Was torn by one man
Who left behind a letter
"I leave roses in the sand"

One girl went missing
Blood and nothing more
Leading to a single rose
Right next to the shore

The townspeople frightened
Anyone could be next
Locked behind their doors
They feared their town was hexed

Things remained normal
Until a drury night
When a young woman was murdered
And left in plain sight

A single knife wound
By the killers' hand
With a note attached
One more rose in the sand

Together people mourned
As they asked for a reason
This became known as
The death of a season

Nobody after dark
Was allowed to roam the street
Every morning in the church
The whole town would meet

A group was formed
To find this elusive man
Who killed these young women
And left roses in the sand

No luck as they searched
No clues left behind
No one with answers
But still on everybodys' mind

A few weeks past
The people felt some peace
Not in terror anymore
For the notes had deceased

But as the town stood tall
One person would soon fall
And through the depths
the killer would finally crawl

A note found on a merchants' door
Read "It's time for one more"
"Watch closely for my demand
Or one more rose in the sand"

Scared by the threat
He tried to do his best
So nothing more would happen
By the mans' request

When out of the blue
Came the first clue
A white piece of cloth
Noticed by a few

Initialed were two letters
Stitched with E and S
They had to find a match
No longer would they guess

When looking at the list of people
In the town
Only one name matched
They could bring this person down

For it was no man
It was a young female
Named Elizabeth Smith
Who lived near the dell

Soon taken to jail
She was then asked why
Blank with no emotions
She never did reply

But found in her home
Were three notes that said
"Roses are like blood
The two of them are red"
"I am calling for a ransom
or three more will be dead"
"I am asking for the sum of
of just ten grand
If you do not pay three more roses in the sand"

The Streets

Troubled minds
With no direction
Adolescence
Without a meaning
Gunfights in the streets
Leaves a young person
With no hope
Teens in broken homes
Nobody cares
Needles and pills
Leaving scars for eternity
Roses on the graves
Of the fallen through the years
Still they continue to
Break all the rules
Thinking life is just a test
Born in the streets
With a bulletproof vest

Wicked Ways

Listen for a moment
Here's what I believe
The media and government
Is only here to deceive

Lies upon lies
As our country dies
But everyone is blinded
And deaf to all the cries

Thinking we have a say
On how the big boy's play
Is like saying it is night
In the middle of the day
Crazy dreams and deadly scenes
Think the U.S. is full of treason
Going to war
But why? Give me a reason

There's more behind the curtains
Than anybody knows
All one big show
The motto's keep it on the low

I'm hoping that sometime
Someone will fix this craze
Please let the truth come out
And change your wicked ways

State of Mind

Plagued by darkness
Marked for death
No grip on life
Controlled by meth
He drove into a sea
Of shame, pain, and worry
Altered state of mind
Reality now blurry
Scared of what the critics
May say to his face
Disgraced by the lies
Locked inside a dreadful place
Outside he seemed alright
But inside his soul was screamin
Fighting a mental battle
To try and shake the demon
Counseling and efforts
Made on his part
Guided to the light
With a brand new start
For over a decade my uncle
Was so blind
Now sitting in the church
With a fresh state of mind

One More Chance

Layin in the park light
Just another dark night
No one around
But the angels' in sight

Reachin from the sky
To take me away
But it's not my time
So I begin to pray

Give me just an hour
Or just one day
To tell my wife and kids
That I just can't stay

I know I'm not the best
God let this be a test
Please give me one more chance
Before you lay me to rest

I see the heavens open
A voice says "feel no pain"
As my soul rises higher
I stand above the rain

Now walking down a tunnel
A hallway lit so bright
With my family at the end
Dressed in gold and white

A smile on my face
With tears below my eyes
I reached with my hand
To be closer to the skies

They said "you must return"
I started losing sight
A voice said "don't worry"
"Everthing will be alright"

I took a deep breath
And with just a single glance
I was back in the park
Thank you for another chance

May 3rd

In May of '99
My city went pitch black
Sounds from beyond
Like bombs over Iraq
An F5 tornado ripped
Through the alley
Tearing homes apart
Leaving debris in the valley
Winds whipped around
With a devastating force
Leaving 42 dead
In its demolitioned course
Telephone poles
Uprooted from the ground
Roaring through the sky
A breath taking sound
Scared under a table
My safety route was planned
The next day in the paper
Headlines read WASTELAND
Next day at school
Alot on my mind
Prayed for the lost
And those they couldn't find
Now when you say tornado
Only one thing can be heard
Remember the day
Known as May 3rd

Blessed

Love flows gently
Like blood through my veins
Stained windows in the church
Kneeling behind heavens' panes
Dressed in a suit
People all around
Dying child stands before us
Congregation on the ground
Blessings from the tongue
Prayers leak from the teeth
It's in God's hands
With a beautiful belief
Trauma from the heart
As it pounds through my chest
Illness stolen from his body
A boy who's now blessed

My First Home

1991
A year of tears and pain
Everything lost
Only fear to gain
A man with bad intentions
Wreaked havoc on my home
Set it a blaze
And cut me to the bone
House still standing
But the belly was destroyed
Always looking for answers
To try to fill the void
When I would see it in the distance
I felt broken hearted
But I have memories
Of where it all started

Rebecca

She was eight years old
Left out in the cold
Torn by the lies
And stories she's been told
But through the pain
She would grow up bold
Here are the events
Watch her story unfold

Her mom didn't care
Step-dad always beat her
Only one who seen the signs
Was the school teacher

But when it came time
She couldn't tell the truth
Cryin on the bench
next to the telephone booth

Drinkin and drugs were
In her family's daily use
She got the worst of both worlds
Mental and physical abuse

She tried to escape
And break the evryday strife
But couldn't visit her dad
He's doin twenty to life

But one Sunday
She hears a loud sound
Cops with a search warrant
Sayin get down on the ground

Handcuffed and read their rights
The little girl was blessed
They were sent to the pen
She could finally rest

Twenty-five now
With a husband and three children
She realizes life
Is truly worth livin

A sad shadowed past
That she left long ago
Still stays in her mind
But Rebecca can finally grow
