Wings of Innocence

I was borne with wings of innocence

Able to soar as imagination rose

Circumstance clips the wings of young

Fate shackles Mercurian ankles in its throes

Tethered to the ground of normality

Directed to the beaten path

Tread the quicksand of conformity

Join the multitude or feel its wrath

Such is a stifling courtship with maturity

Foregoing the whimsical notions of the past

Join the age of production and gratuity

Accept the roles as they are cast

I must find those wings that let me soar

Discard these chains they call the golden age

Ride the winds that whisper of forgotten lore

And break the gates of this earthbound cage

Moot

It is merely one voice

A faint echo within the multitude

Distinguished only by its resigned silence

Strength of desire fading away

Like a snow flake destined to disappear

Its singular beauty lost within the many

Uniqueness melts into a white blanket of obscurity

Followed by the endless parade of individual sameness

Each different yet at a distance … conglomerate

Clustered into anonymity

The flight of one becomes moot

Reflective Considerations

It’s the mirror

Reflection of confusion

Moi ?

Collection of misguided attentions

Or

The stoic compilation of self

Who

Familiar unfamiliar face

Hallowed eyes

Meets the stare of satisfaction

Youth ?

Held captive by

The gray aches of age

Resignation to

The crossroads of bygone goals

Smile

For the union of love

Frown

Of lost exuberance

Desire

To just give more

What Dreams May Come

Waves of thought crash against the shore of the mind

Eroding what was once the solid ground that was stood upon

Dark gray clouds rain down droplets of confusion

Existence in a shadowed land where the inane grows wild

Emancipation is the forbidden fruit un-tasted by hungry lips

Woe be the man inhabiting this dark and deserted isle

The air stagnant suffocates the will to escape

The chill of incoherency weakens the resolve to be free

Directionless and cemented in the angst of inability

Endless days, endless nights spent searching a barren land

Resistance is futile, drowning in pity unacceptable

Alas so is the fruitless abandon that leads nowhere

Hope is the only sustainable sustenance

And what once was can be again the sum

To the soul that dreams, what dreams may come

Green Olived Cans

Nineteen hundred and fifties poor
Canned spam and powdered eggs
Olive green cans of war surplus
Hand me downs were simply rags

Toys were non-existent
Twigs turned an imaginary joy
Silence became a fortress
Escape for a speech impeded boy

Practiced duck and covers
Communism is on the way
A race to capture a shiny moon
Amid the racism of the day

Alcohol was the numbing flavor
Before the devil brought us crack
Dreams were within hand reach
Vietnam was on the rack

Not much has really changed
The world an unforgiving mess
One wonders if God is watching
And will we pass his wisdom’s test
