Nineteen hundred and fifties poor Canned spam and powdered eggs Olive green cans of war surplus Hand me downs were simply rags Toys were non-existent Twigs turned an imaginary joy Silence became a fortress Escape for a speech impeded boy Practiced duck and covers Communism is on the way A race to capture a shiny moon Amid the racism of the day Alcohol was the numbing flavor Before the devil brought us crack Dreams were within hand reach Vietnam was on the rack Not much has really changed The world an unforgiving mess One wonders if God is watching And will we pass his wisdom’s test gkl2010
