The Speed of Life

In the childhood home her mother spins her child
Round and round we go happiness seems to overflow
And the childhood goes by; faster, faster

A growing child with so much energy running and having fun
Careless and free he runs across the yard
He is growing up; faster, faster

Only in middle school and already a rebel
Sticking up for a friend and getting in a fight
He has courage but still he runs; faster, faster

High school has come at last
The odd man out he cries for attention
Into depression he spirals; faster, faster

At the high school prom he meets a girl
The hearts beet together and the music beats in their ears
They are falling madly in love; faster, faster

Barely a year and a kid on the way
To work and back the same routine, every hour, every day
A wedding is coming closer; faster, faster

So far a happy life, and a good career
They buy a home and outside he spins his child
Another childhood is going by; faster, faster

His life was long another one has started from it
But now the ambulance move; faster, faster
And his heartbeat fails; slower, slower

"the Princess"

So, I see a princess, all alone
Her beauty clear, her wisdom known
I ask her why she sits, on a floor of stone
Instead of on, an elaborate throne

She gives me a look, of utter confusion
Then asks me why, I live in this delusion
Must it be, that in her seclusion
She cannot be happy, why this conclusion?

I take a minute to wonder
And another to ponder
Why away from riches my mind will wander
And my heart grows fonder

I ask if I may sit with her, but she politely declines
I am startled at this, as my fascination subsides
She gives me a smile, and beautifully chimes
I am happy alone, listening to life’s little rhymes

Again I am struck to a daze
Amidst confusion and haze
My eyes weaken and begin to glaze
I feel I have wasted many days

How can you be happy alone, I ask
To live life, without sharing your task
To sit here, no metaphorical mask
While right over there, in your birth you can bask

She gives me no answer, just one more riddle
Are you on top, or on the bottom, or stuck in the middle
To your neighbor do you mean much, or less than a little
Does a man play music, or is he a slave to the fiddle?

Though the answer is still haunting
I can hear it from a friends dull taunting
I have chased all that the rich were flaunting
And now I live a life that is lonely and daunting

"fantasies and Obsessions"

Intolerable inexperience instilled in indifference,
Suddenly shifting. Such subtle shame,
For fallen fantasies, failing fictional fallacies.
Every exception exceeding expectancies,
Never neglecting notable necessities.
Coming completely closed,
Removing reality, reflecting rational reduction.
Perfect possibilities pass presently,
Abandoning avarice and addiction,
When we waver with weakness.
Our options, overt obsessions,
Dampen dreams, destroy desires,
Verify vendettas, vilify victories.
We will willingly wait,
Rise, reach, regrow.

"in the Street Light"

In the dead of night, surrounded by an odd white light,
A woman stands with strands of hair in her face, and a letter in her hands.
She kneels on the ground and feels the cold cement, knowing what the letter conceals,
A tear runs down her face while she sits alone in this foreign place; her heart quickens pace.
Her life passes before her, she feels she can move no further, and her breaths grow shorter
The street lamp above flickers out, revealing every doubt shown in her weary pout
A car passes by and again she begins to cry, for the one that has died
The letter falls to the ground, and there is no sound to be found as it falls
On the front is the seal from the United States Army, and a worn piece of her husband’s uniform

"end It All"

A simple grave, a marker in time
Not in the ground, but your very mind
A complex riddle, woven into life
To see a dawn, of crimson tides
Not from a sunrise, but shattered lives
A woman stands, her hands held high
To praise her captor, that one that holds her
Not a man, nor a woman
A society watches, impious and unjust
Not to offer aid, not to do what it must

Every deity is wrong, every faith is misplaced
Every man a slave, every woman a servant
No government uncorrupt, no leader correct
No love to follow, no heart to mend
In the end we fall, in the end we falter
In the beginning we had a chance
In the beginning we had hope
Tomorrow is our last day
Today we gave up
Yesterday we still had a chance

Stress

I am giving up
The stress is past the point of throwing up
Every day the same routine
The repetition has become obscene
My hands are blistered, sore and torn
While my face looks old a worn
If my nerves are bent any more
I will snap at the middle and break at the core
Just a little break
To relieve me from more than can take
A rest for the weary is all I ask
A little relief from this stressful task

"mistress"

Nurturing the parasite
Seems like such a bad choice in hindsight
But what could I do
When I was so in love with you
I wish I could take it back
But like a train run off the track
My life was derailed and empty
When you stopped pretending

It started as we would
And changed to we could
And it wasn’t too long
Before you changed the song
To a melody much more saddening

I pretended it was alright
You pretending you cared
When the truth came about
I was scared and scarred
With memories joyful and sad
Of what you took that we once had

"the Beat"

A landscape of sound laid out before her
The dance beat pulsing in the air
The spotlight shimmering in her hair

A wild and vivid, fluid concoction of movements
The pounding bass in her chest
The pace too quick for rest

Strobes and lasers flicker to the sound
The color illuminates her, makes her glow
The flashing merges her motions as the passion grows

Each person is a whole in this dance of life
The sound fades and the lighting changes to dull shades
The band plays a new song and the intensity remains

"in You"

Dull drifting daydreams and afflicting apparitions
Simple shadows swirling, grinding, and grating
In your thoughts and in your dreams

Resentful reflections reconstructing the image
Mirrored and mimicked in mind and clouded consciousness
In your mind and in your imagination

Can careful consideration bring bountiful bliss
Do dreams define days or form foggy futures
In your sleep and in your life

A wonderful world wakes at the dawn of dismal days
Fears fade and falter under a myriad of music and moonlight
In your days and in your nights

Beauty begins to gleam and glisten
And love is learned from the lessons long lived
In your eyes and in your life

"take a Step"

Take a step toward
Forward, further and farther than before
Take a step back
Backward, behind to behold a new beginning
Now that you are where you started
Take a break
Abandon the arbitrary arguments
Gather the nerves to go for your goals
And think thoroughly about the things that matter
Set your sight upon the scarlet sunset
When the darkness disappears and dawn returns again
You will know you have what it takes
Open your eyes, take a breath
And take a step
