I love the way you are -like the way I am-

You’re just like me in a way
In a way I wish I could say
That I love the way you are
But it’d be a lie to lie and say
Those six words that nick at my heart

Because if you’re like me in a way
And I don’t like me to be
So just like you
I can’t say I love the way you are
When I don’t like the way I am

Let me teach you to be unlike me
So that you can be inexplicably free
But can I really teach you so
When I still reap what I sow
I should learn to let go

One day I’ll learn to love the way I am
So that I can love the way you are
But hopefully when that day comes
You won’t quite be so like me
Then we can both be free

A World Without Walls

My traveling, checkered sky,
A dome I convey, this portable sanctuary,
Heavy and hard, but expresses greatness,
At the same time, anchors my quick travel.

The sky’s song in motion, beautiful to my dismay,
And I can only see the foamy waters up to the horizon,
Sore leather oars row through the sand,
Practically aching for liquid muscle.

Daystar pounds my head, rays spill on grainy grit,
Deafening calls from the aforementioned avians,
Crossing the silver margin, pulled into shivering silk,
At last, the heavy earth lets go, and home is a world without walls.

FREE WEEKS

Once every passing, in a pattern amidst thirty,
I offer my regret like a palm held open and empty,
The calendar knows before I do. It rattles in my bones.
My knees crumble like paper, vibrating and percussive.

Joy thins out quietly, anxiety knocks, but I never answer,
I apologize for the quiet weeks I called ordinary,
I’m sorry for mistaking mercy as a default.
I fold into myself and whisper promises upward.

In two weeks tops,
I will forget this pain.

And that will be the cruelest part.

The Porcelain Necrosis

A thick porcelain shroud in a diamond vial,
Dabbing conceals the bruised moon beneath each socket,
A fine white mask stifles the shine,
Carving canyons to mimic where the pulse has retreated,
Brushing of a counterfeit fever upon the apples of the cheek,
Before a stroke of stardust illuminates the stifle,
Sweeping the lids with the velvet,
Ink the margins of gaze with a raven’s sharp intent,
Until the final petal of crimson seals the kiss,
The mirror reflects the tragedy of gravity claiming its heavy prize,
And beauty really is pain.

the biological garden - homeostasis

hands tremor at the ding,
analytical thoughts flash,
reasoning for the beam
but can’t get any words out,
it’s something about you.

body hangs off the moon,
take me back to the garden,
thorns prick fingers and
crimson drips and rushes down,
but it’s worth it.

butterflies dance the stomach,
lungs contract and expand easier,
headaches decrease as blood rushes
to other parts of the body,
the pulse brings joy.

all that matters

It’s coming back again
Even when I’m chosen, I feel stupid.
Nothing can save me now
There’s better out there.

You can call me the best
And say it so much to make me believe it.
But unless you remove my gray matter
It will never be true.

This will linger until I stop breathing
Whether that is near or far.
When everything is perfect on her front
I don’t think my details matter.

Because she could be so unbelievably horrid inside
It wouldn’t matter when she can cover it with a pretty face.
I have nothing to cover my flaws with
Don’t say I’m all that matters.

Possibly

At the ripe age of 15
I feel 51
Afraid to bend my body
Scared to hear a back crack
My legs scream in agony
All the while, my torso remains thin
Reminding me of my youth

This so-called youth
With raging chest pains
Stabbing with a pounding heart
Raising arms to catch a pass
I’m immediately faced with regret
Brought with a side of torn muscle pain
And the randomness of a cyst invaded ovary

Possibly

I just hope 18 doesn’t feel 81

Renovation Day

Today I realized that staying the same
Is just a slower way of breaking my own heart,
It’s finally dawned on me that I can’t
Keep carrying these jagged edges;
They’ve started to cut me, too.

I am tired of bleeding for a ghost.

Because you don’t love me anymore and
I’m not even sure you ever did,
Though I think you’d love to hear this
I’ll give you the silence you’ve been waiting for,
I knew you were the person of my dreams.

That’s exactly where you’ll stay.

Once you leave, I’ll begin the repairs,
Sanding down the parts of me I bruised.
I’ll take the pieces you and I didn't want
And build something nobody will recognize,
Until I finally evolve into a better me.

Until loving me doesn’t hurt.

Trauma Changes People

Release the glass to its reckless ruin
Witness the fragility scatter into quiet
As it folds into a delicate ruin of your making
The forced jagged edges meant to leave scars

Offer your tears and hollow pleas
Linger if you must, weave thousands
Making each breath sing pretty well
Yet no melody can fix that fractured glass
