I saw you

I saw you today, well not exactly.
I caught a glimpse of your shoes and while that sounds kind of insane,
I heard your laugh again and I could've sworn it sounded just like you calling my name.
But then the bell rang and I was brought back to my senses.
When I turned around you were already gone , not just then but in past, present and even future tenses.

You've actually been gone for a while now, so I don't know why you're still on my mind.
It's not like you'll come back the more that I reminisce or that my visions of you will make it easier for me not to miss you.
Technically speaking, you aren't "gone" but your name is no longer part of my vocabulary.
And although I sometimes wish I could go back, I don't know if I could fight a battle I've lost once already.

It's funny actually, the way I still find myself wanting to call you as soon as there's good news.
Then I remember that whatever we had was nothing but a game I was bound to lose.
It feels like torture, having to walk by and pretend I don't smell your cologne,
almost provoking me to turn and face you but I know it won't do me any good because at the end of it all I'm still alone.

It's maddening honestly, how everytime I'm convinced we'll cross paths, you seem to remain only orbiting my fantasy but never materialising into my reality.
I was starting to think it had all been a fever dream. the way you spoke to me, how you held my hand, when you smiled and for a moment I lost my train of thought.
But it's not like it matters, after all you were just another lesson I was forced to be taught.

Could've fooled me, well I guess you did, the way you used to look at me, like I was the center of all your desires.
How your eyes would light up at the sound of my voice, like two blazing fires.
But I'm done living in this delusion, when you just keep leaving me in a state of confusion.
I'm determined to find someone new, someone that won't hurt as bad or haunt me whenever I see the colour blue.

At least that's what I thought, before an arm brushed mine and when I looked up only to meet your gaze it felt different, like maybe this time we'd be more than a phase.
When I saw you today it wasn't like all the times before, any other day you would've kept walking with my eyes still stuck to you like glue.
But no, now we're staring at one another and it's somewhat unreal because today I didn't just see you, you saw me too.

War

Our love is like a battlefield
You stand steady with your shield
The war hasn't even begun but I've chosen to yield
That difference alone tells me all that needed to be revealed

You're clad in armor, from head to toe
While I remain bare, because I already know
You never believed in my love for you, thinking it was just for show
I tried it all, anything I could think of, all that it took to make u understand that I wouldn't go

You looked past my words, my actions, my efforts; none of it managed to do the trick
You still hold a sword to my chest, firm enough just to prick
With only my heart in my hands, I wait for you to take it while the clock continues to tick
I look to find yours but it seems to be hidden behind layers of brick

We've always been different, you and me
Different goals, different hobbies, different languages of love; though I never saw that as a reason to flee
I would've given you the world, everything you ever wanted, if only you let me
Seems like i saw you as the yin to my yang but you'll only ever view me as the enemy

Swans

I'm sure you've heard of it before.
How they match with one partner and thereafter don't need anything more
Once they've bonded, they're intertwined. mind, body and soul, till their very core.
With eyes only seeing one another, there's never a day when it feels like a chore.

Swans, I mean. beautiful creatures, truly.
It's poetic, how they can fall once and continuously love their pair so purely.
Quite contrary to people though, we seem to function differently.
Sometimes feeling that same kind of passion but doing so silently.

We don't engage, we don't pair, we don't link with our "significant other".
Why, you may ask. well because we don't want to be seen as a bother
So we wait, and wait, and wait until perhaps one day our "match" will find their way to our direction.
But in more cases than not, such phenomena are unlikely because we are simply not part of our mate's selection.

It's odd, I know. how I've used words like "significant other", "match" and "mate".
But clearly those are inaccurate if for them, my title is still up for debate.
However, that's the sorrow in not finding your forever.
Or even worse, finding it in someone when you're not even together.

I guess in some ways we are similar to swans, unfortunately only in heartbreak.
Because when a swan's cob passes away, the remaining pair is left in heartache.
But in this case, my "companion" is not dead.
He was never "mine" to begin with, it was merely all in my head.

Just for comfort

I jump into bed, exhausted after this passing week
Cozy bed, curtains closed and fluffy socks on my feet
All that's missing is a blanket, then I can finally sleep

I look around my room to find that one special piece of fabric I've had for as long as I can remember
Or maybe it just feels that way, we did only meet last September

Aha, I've got it, the one I was looking for, just as soft as when we first met
So warm and comforting, the best there is, id be willing to bet
I close my eyes, wrapped in its love, I'm all set

I toss and I turn but It just doesn't feel right
The once comforting look of its patterns become the most bothersome sight
I used to cover my head and let it encase me in its darkness but now I'm desperate for light

Maybe I was in over my head, I thought this was dedication but it's starting to feel like suffocation
It's too much, I can't take it, get it off me, this isn't relaxation

I just wanted something comfy to sleep with
If you thought we were anything more, you're believing a myth
There were others before you too, some who did it better, you're just my fifth

Sorry to toss you off the bed, I know you thought you were here to stay
To be fair though, I also warned you not to believe everything I say

Testimony

Loving you feels like a religion.
One where I am your most devoted disciple, patiently awaiting your provision.
And I believe that you will provide because you were the start to my salvation.
The center of my personal heaven, all I ask is that you consider my supplication.

Funny thing is, I've never knelt for gods, but for you I chose to be a believer.
Worshipping you was second nature, like you were made to be its receiver.
Perhaps you aren't righteous or holy.
But you gave me a purpose,
You made me feel worthy.

However it seems that religion never truly changes.
Because even you don't see me as enough to be chosen, despite the sincerity of my praises.
I've always been labeled a sinner, beyond being saved.
But you gave me hope, you held out your hand with the grace I've always craved.

Your promise to me was sacred, like a covenant just for you and me.
You said I'd be anointed by you, that together we could be free.
Yet once again I am cast away, undeserving of your glory.
Maybe I was born a heathen, it's just the way god has written my story.

I've been on my knees before, tears in my eyes waiting for someone to hear my pleas.
But I'm losing faith in this religion, I can't bring myself to believe in a god that only wants me when I bleed.

So this is my final testimony.
Despite it all, I was blessed enough to know you,
Cursed enough to want you,
And damned enough to never be with you.

Drowning

You can feel yourself being pulled into the deep end.
The tides pull you left, right and center yet you refuse to call out to a friend.
As if there's an anchor weighing you down.
You can see me on the shore, pleading for you to take my hand, but instead you tell me to back down.

I can't understand why you chose to suffer when all I want to do is help.
You've never had it easy, not for even a day, but I'm just trying to change the cards that you were dealt.
I see your struggles, I understand your problems and I feel your pain.
It's like you can't bring yourself to trust me, why can't you just accept that I love you even when there's nothing for me to gain?

You know that you're sinking and yet it seems you'd rather drown than take me with you.
I don't even wish that you felt the same way that I do, all I want is for you to confide in me too.
And although that may sound chivalrous, I would rather sacrifice myself than have to bear a world without you in it.
You always say that we're the only ones who understand each other, but now it seems your own hypocrisy is too dense to admit.

I don't know what to do anymore, I can't just sit back and watch you plunge into endless blues.
But I'm not the one who's meant to save you because I'm not the one who you decided to choose.
She's supposed to dive in head first, without any hesitation.
She's the person you want so why hasn't she given you any form of flotation?

No, instead she sits and pretends not to notice your muffled cries.
How can you possibly look at her with love while she remains stagnant as a part of you dies?
It's killing me, I feel my throat closing and my eyes are starting to tear.
How can it be that she's the one who has your heart and yet as you slowly descend, I'm the one trembling in fear?

I can't begin to fathom why she has the privilege of calling you hers.
Or why you silently fall deeper into nothingness until your vision blurs.
But what I do know is that I can't be a witness to your demise.
So I delve into those same waters, even if you hate me later, it's all worth it as soon as life returns to your eyes.
