Julia Smith Poem
Dear God, why do you love us so?
I guess that's one thing we'll never know.
We curse you & turn your name to dirt;
God, I know that must really hurt.
When we're in trouble, we say that we love you,
and when we're not, we think we're above you.
Dear God, why did Jesus die?
This world is just one big lie.
There's drugs & war; there's hate everywhere.
God, how is it that you can still care?
It's 'do unto others before they do you'.
Everyday there's more bad news.
So God, why do you love us so?
I guess that's one thing we'll never know.

Julia Smith Poem
I find myself all alone
with no place to call my own.
Living off other peoples’ charities,
how did I let this happen to me?
It really wasn’t that far back
I had it made, that’s a fact.
The world was my oyster holding the pearl,
Miss Independent, a confident girl.
‘I don’t need anyone!’; least that’s what I said.
You think maybe I let it go to my head?
How did things get turned upside-down?
When did my smile turn to a frown?
Oh yeah, that’s right; I fell in love!
Man of my dreams sent from above.
As always, I dove in head first,
never thinking that I’d get hurt.
But he took my love, then cast me aside;
never caring that my heart had died.
So now I find myself all alone,
I can’t even give a dog a bone!
Now I just want to be free again
and not let my heart be ruled by a man.
I know I can do it, I've done it before,
and this time I want it even more!
I just have to be patient, it’s gonna take time.
I can’t let myself start falling behind.
And you know what? I’ve got all that I need
to make this plan of mine succeed.
I won't ever again have to feel alone.
Can somebody please give that dog a bone?

Julia Smith Poem
We've been playing this game for so long,
trying to find where we went wrong.
Each time I'd think I'd learned the rules,
you'd change them, so again I'm the fool.
Over and over you manage to score;
wearing me down; hurting me more.
I don't see how I can do this again
when I know there's no way I can win.
But play or give up; either way I choose,
there will be no winner, so we both lose.

Julia Smith Poem
I thought we could make it, if given half a chance,
never dreaming it would be our last dance.
It's just not fair for life to be so cruel!
I loved you so much and tried for so long
to convince you that loving me wasn't wrong.
Now you think I was playing you for a fool!
I put up with a lot of 'cause you were The One;
stuck by you even when I knew it was dumb.
You put me through hell, but I was 'in love'!
But, as fate would have it, I came into money
and then you decided you wanted only me.
Seems all you needed was that one little shove.
Now I'm not stupid; I knew the score.
But when you started calling me a whore
after I was the one paying all the bills!
The love is gone. I don't care anymore.
It felt good to be able to show you the door.
And no, I'm not putting you in my will!

Julia Smith Poem
my mother died,
i was to die with her.
that was the pact, you see,
my dad & i made together.
while my mother died,
i never left her side;
over & over calling her name ,
hoping to send a spark to the flame.
but still my mother died.
now i'm naught but a shell;
because the day my mother died
i cursed my soul to hell.
i'll never be free
of this wrath brought on by me,
for every hardship i suffer
lets her know how much i love her.
but since my mother died
i wonder if she can hear
my screams of pain & anquish,
wishing she were near?
and though she's dead & gone
i swear forever long
tears for her I'll always cry
until the day i die.

Julia Smith Poem
she sits across the room and smiles so sweet;
no one is aware that underneath
she hides her pain from all around;
little girl lost, never to be found.
they say she's crazy, watch out for her,
she's not known to play well with others.
but if that's true , then all i can say
is maybe they should walk in her shoes for a day.
i think she's beautiful and strong for sure,
because in spite of all she's had to endure,
she can sit across the room and still smile at me.
you see, it's what's in her heart that sets her free.
we all have our crosses; some are harder to bear,
and when i feel like giving up, i'll see her sitting there,
smiling so sweet and hiding from the world
that brave and beautiful, that strong little girl.

Julia Smith Poem
How can I tell if you really care?
How can I know you'll always be there?
There've been so many times in the past
I've had relationships that didn't last.
I don't know if I can go through this again,
I'm not sure that it's worth all that pain.
I managed to keep all the others at bay.
I even found that I liked it that way.
The freedom to do exactly as I choose,
there was no way I could possibly lose.
I called the shots, it was my show and
if you didn't like it , you knew where to go.
the last thing I wanted was to get involved,
but somehow in spite of my resolve,
you've gotten through, god only knows how.
so it doesn't matter what I do now.
I'm in love with you, like it or not.
All I can do is give it my best shot.

Julia Smith Poem
There's an angel here among us,
though we may never know her name.
She walks and talks beside us
appearing to be the same.
Yet though she stands beside us
there're some who'll never see
that the angel here beside us
is inside you and me.

Julia Smith Poem
I always knew you’d be there with your caring and concern.
I always knew you’d have my back when I had nowhere to turn.
I always knew I could count on your support no matter what.
All these things I always knew, but somehow you forgot.
Each day I’ve waited patiently for just one little word,
but the days go by and still I wait, my name never to be heard.
What keeps me going now is I know, with any luck,
I can tell you all to kiss my ass, ’cause I DON’T GIVE A !

Julia Smith Poem
Each day is the same; we all sit here and wait,
listening for the sound of the chains on the gate.
You see, that’s our signal; that’s our cue;
that’s how we know what we're to do.
We all soon learn what each sound is for,
even before someone's open the door.
We get excited when the laundry is clean,
the high point of our week is the day we get canteen!
For an hour of TV, we all rush to line up;
even to take a shower we have to sign up.
Everyone gets quiet when they're doing mail call,
maybe good news for some, but not for all.
Yes, each day is the same, we all sit here and wait;
listening for that sound of the chains on the gate.
One day soon, they'll be sounding for me,
and I'll walk out these doors, finally free!
