I was around fifteen years old and one night I could not get to sleep. Finally I got out of bed, grabbed a pen and paper, knelt by the bed; yes I said 'knelt'; and started writing what was going through my head. This was my very first poem. Please remember I was only fifteen, so sorry for any whining.
Dear God, why do you love us so?
I guess that's one thing we'll never know.
We curse you & turn your name to dirt;
God, I know that must really hurt.
When we're in trouble, we say that we love you,
and when we're not, we think we're above you.
Dear God, why did Jesus die?
This world is just one big lie.
There's drugs & war; there's hate everywhere.
God, how is it that you can still care?
It's 'do unto others before they do you'.
Everyday there's more bad news.
So God, why do you love us so?
I guess that's one thing we'll never know.
