Lights Before the Fall

They say time is precious,
They say live, enjoy the highs and lows,
But when I’m up there on the Ferris wheel’s crest,
All I think of is the fall that follows.

Yet I feel the joy,
I feel it in every loop,
That wild moment when I bellow in joy,
Even knowing the drop is coming soon.

Crashing down like a Tilt-a-Whirl’s spin,
Only to queue for the ride again,
Life’s loop of lights and shadowed nights,
Where joy and fear both entertain.

Fading Horizon

A dream, like a fading horizon,
Where the sky and earth collide
One touches hope,
The other, doubt.

I stand between the two,
Feet planted in a fractured world,
Where trust is a shadow
And faith is a whisper.

My ceiling is low,
A blanket of fog,
Yet I’m told to reach
For stars that feel too far.

In the silence, I hear
A voice, distant yet near,
Reminding me
Even the darkest clouds
Can part,
And the sun can find its way.

But for now,
I’m made to learn in the dark,
Grasping for the light
I can’t see.

Ceiling of doubt

I was told the sky was endless,
But mine was a feather away
A low lid of shadows.
Every step echoes in a room
That was never meant to hold me.

Still, they say, reach higher.
But my hands find only fog,
And my faith slips through it
Like water through open fingers.

In despair, or deep sleep
I open my eyes
But I’m blind
Feeling my way through a world
That swears there’s light above me.

Seed in a Plantation

One of many, yet set apart,
A seed without its tree.
Still, the roots take hold,
Still, the branches reach.

One in four, rising strong,
To lift the old tree from its sorrow.
One in four, breaking through clouds,
Carrying the light he once followed.

In hope that one becomes all,
And all become four,
So his dream, even in silence,
Will never die.

Mother’s Nest

Feeling warm,
Mommy’s cold,
sense of duty,
Mommy stays,
First of four clouds,
She clears the sky,
So light can shine,
On the cloud she raised.
