2026 WHAT AWAITS US
BY ALICE MARAGLIA
I have to say, 2026 seems so near, yet far away
Far from the expectations of a presidency, that
promised so much.
I never did see the sense of giving away all that cash,
when my health insurance is now in the trash.
Pay down the deficit, we ask, while promising our SS won't be touched.
2026, What am I still doing here? At 69, I worked all my life.
Served my country, in debt up to my ass. I see no
reason to stay and see more of the same, Only if and when
I can lay down to sleep, will I embrace the year of 2026.
I said goodbye to family and friends, one after another passed
Sickness, or financial collapse took them too soon.
It makes you wonder, Jesus are you coming, or is that a lie too?
2026, Promises, promises, promises.

IF I WERE A BIRD
BY ALICE MARAGLIA
10/25
IF I WERE A BIRD, I'D SING OUT TO THE EARTH
MADE OF THE DUST I WAS BIRTHED.
ALIVE, AWOKEN, AIR IN MY LUNGS
A SONG TO THE CREATOR,
FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE.
AWAKE, AWAKE, MY FELLOW BEINGS
SHOUT TO THE LORD, FOR HE IS GREAT
MAKER OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, IS HE.
CREATED IN HIS IMAGE, BEAUTIFUL, LIKE HE
FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE.
IF I WERE A BIRD, I'D FLY ABOVE THE SKIES
TO EVERY FOREIGN LAND, DECLARING
HIS MAJESTY, IN TRUMPETS, BLASTS!
HIS TIME IS NEAR, MOUNTING HIS HORSE,
FOR HIS BRIDE SO DEAR.
IF I WERE A BIRD, I'D WANT TO SING
OUR BRIDEGROOM GOD, HE IS OUR KING
CLOTHED IN WHITE LINEN, DIPPED IN BLOOD
HE RIDES AMONGST THE CLOUDS,
WITH HIS ARMY OF HOSTS.
HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST, MY
SAVIOR, MY KING, TO WHAT DO
WE OWE YOU, FOR THE BLOOD
THAT WAS SHED. OUR HEARTS
SO PURE, WASHED, WHITE AS SNOW
IF I WERE A BIRD I'D WANT IT TO BE SO!

History Repeats Itself
By Alice Maraglia
It has been said many times, that history repeats itself,
or does it?
Are we creating or destroying what seems to be our
present circumstance?
It seems to me, that I have lived here before, or was
it just a distant memory?
Pain comes and goes like the wind on the water,
lapping up tears, salty, yet refreshing.
For if I could choose to stay, here, then I would
only for a moment, history will
repeat itself, with or without me.
For those whose lives have been ripped apart,
destroyed for lack of knowledge, yes, history
repeats itself because we only do what is familiar.
Stretching our imagination is painful, the progress
is slow, demanding, tedious, and cruel.
Only those who dare to trust the outcome
will grow, and survive.
Come inside the mind of one who not only
believes he can, and is determined to finish
the race of which he started, so history does
not repeat itself.
You are not alone on this journey you've created,
others, who have gone before, some succeeded
others are still on their way,
You do not live by bread alone, but of those
things that water the soul.
That is what makes you stay.
You hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for His name sake, not your own. Only
He, can fill the empty soul.
If it's history you want, continue to
repeat what isn't working.

CROSS IN THE ROADWAY
LYRICS BY ALICE MARAGLIA
WRITTEN 2019
I was stopped in traffic on a hot summer's day
praying for God to show me a better way.
As I looked up from my steering wheel
bells were ringing, red lights flashing,
for the Cross in the Roadway.
Two outstretched arms laid across those old train tracks
two cars crossed over and never came back.
They ignored the signs that came that day
from the Cross in the Roadway.
I heard a voice from heaven say
"I put that Cross in the Roadway to remind
you to slow down someday.
I was running out of time, more things to do,
but that old Cross in the Roadway kept me
before my time was due.
Oh when I look back on that day, only to see
how God spared my life from being struck on that
track. If it wasn't for the old Cross in the Roadway
When your life feels like it's lost it's meaning
and there is only one way out,
Remember, round every cornier that
Cross in the Roadway that keeps us on track.

I REMEMBER THE LITTLE THINGS
BY ALICE MARAGLIA
2019
I was raised with a set of morals we don't hear much today
things like, "yes mam," "no sir", please and thank you.
Excuse me when we needed to be heard, now all you
get is a push and a shove, no one cares.
Men tipped their hats to women passing by,
"Good Morning" was a standard reply.
Seats on the bus were offered up out of respect
to an elder, a mom to be, or the disabled who cannot see.
Today, there are no moral standards to teach our young,
How are we making America Great again?
Did our political correctness replace those values?
We will never go back to the day it once was.
The Bible was read morning noon and night,
now we have the cell phone, and AI to guide us at night.
Be careful people, you are being invaded by a stranger
who knows not or cares, for the danger ahead is clear.

IF SHE ONLY KNEW
BY ALICE MARAGLIA
Standing on the corner, she calls to her lovers
waving to strangers, hoping to get their attention.
Slowly, a car pulls up with promised intentions,
"Hey baby, want a ride"?
"Whatcha got in mind sugar"?, She climbs in
to the smell of weed, cigarettes and alcohol.
"How about a little music"? as her
clothes become unbuttoned.
Reluctantly, she offers herself to his cold,
calloused hands. They slide up and
down her body like a snake slithering around
her waist. He tightens his grip on her, then
thrusts himself into her.
Her soul leaves her body, as he continues to violate
her. Looking down from above her, she remembers
her youth. "Where is God" when I need him most?
She exists, no more, He finishes, and tosses her
out of the car to the curb, like a used razor.
No longer, viable, only an empty shell of a woman, lies
on the cold concrete. No one cared about finding her.
Suddenly, out of the cold night air, Yeshua, picks her
up, and takes her to her destiny. No longer does she
feel the pain of rejection.
Yeshua, restores her brokenness, clothes her in white
where she will be with him forever.
If she only knew, she might have believed sooner.

Oh! Where Have You Been
by Alice Maraglia
Your Uber/Lyft Transporter
My standard question when picking up a passenger
is, where have you been, and where are you going?
At times it is at the airport, work or other strange places.
My car is like a box of chocolates, to coin a phrase.
I never do know what I will get, or what's inside.
Sometimes, it's a gooey fun ride, and sometimes
it's just okay to cry.
It only takes a piece of candy or something to eat, making
you relaxed enough to pick up the beat.
I often feel like the bar tender who gives sound advice,
maybe the therapist, who picks your brain.
You listen to my bad jokes, laugh, and then you cry.
I will always be wanting to know, where have you been
and where are we going?
Well, it's off to some other corner of the world, a new
adventure lurks around the bend.
Can't wait for the journey to end.
My question will always be, and where have you been,
and where are you going?
Hop in, relax, and enjoy the ride.
