Inherited Chains

I remember wishing for her happiness,
for if she smiled, all would be fine.
She was a tempest,
a storm of anger, sadness, and despair,
Allowing the darkness to consume her,
an abyss too deep to repair.

She let the shadows dictate her life,
Surrendered to the pain and grief
Her laughter was a distant memory,
her joy a dream,
In her eyes,
the spark was lost,
replaced by a silent scream.

I refuse to be a reflection of her sorrow,
I crave joy before my final tomorrow.
I want to break free from this inherited chain,
To dance in the sunlight,
to kiss away the rain.

I strive to find my own light,
to carve my own way,
To embrace the dawn of a brand-new day.

Breathing Barely Surviving Without You

It’s lonelier to grieve.
Because I knew you.
Because I loved you.
Because I still do.
And now I carry that love
Like a body that won’t stop breathing.

I cry for the life you didn’t live.
For the mornings you missed.
For the years I still imagine even though
I know better.

I cry because I saw you becoming
And then I saw you stop.
I drown in thought.
Not memory
That would mean you were here.
I drown in the future I built around you.
The one you never asked for
But I gave you anyway.

You were supposed to stay.
You were supposed to grow old.
I grieve the man you never got to be.
The one I still talk to in my head when I’m scared
Or tired
Or pretending I’m fine.

I grieve the version of me
Who would’ve loved you longer.
Who would’ve learned how to forgive you for leaving.
I hate the silence. It sounds like you.
I hate the quiet. It feels like you.
I hate the way I still wait for something
that isn’t coming.

You are gone.
But you are everywhere.
In the things I can’t say.
In the breath I hold.
In the way I keep living
Like it means something.

Faith is A Bruise in My Lung

They speak like the sky owes them answers.
I sit quiet, a stone in their storm.
Their voices rise
Mine stays buried.
They say “He’s watching.”

I feel watched.
Not by God.
By them. Their eyes
Soft, but sharp.
Like feathers hiding knives.

I smile.
It hurts and I nod.
It burns.

They pray.
I pretend. Because I love them.
Because I need them.
Because I don’t want to be the ghost at the table.

Their faith is loud.
As mine is a bruise.
Not purple and not visible.
But tender every time they say “saved.”

I want to scream
As much as I want to run and

I want to be held without being fixed.
I want to belong without being erased.

And I want to stay.
Because leaving feels like dying.
And I want to leave
But staying feels like disappearing.
But I don’t know which ache is worse.

Veil of Deceit, a Bitter Facade

As you move, I see the falseness in each stride,
A puppet of deceit, with nothing left to hide.
Every gesture, once genuine, now feels forced,
A facade crumbling, revealing your true course.

Your words drip with venom, leaving a bitter taste,
A sharp sting that lingers, hard to erase.
Your voice, once soothing, now grates like nails,
Each syllable a dagger, a story that fails.

I watch your smile, now twisted and sly,
The deceit in your eyes is impossible to deny.
Your touch, once warm, now feels like ice,
A chill that spreads, devoid of any vice.

Your laughter, hollow and false,
Promising kindness, hiding the malice it scrawls.
The warmth you once radiated now feels cold,
A presence that darkens, making me fold.

What am I To Do

you died, and i didn’t.
and that’s the part i don’t know what to do with.

i still open my mouth
to tell you things and forget there’s no one listening.
sometimes i whisper anyway
because silence is too loud without you.

your voice isn’t gone.
it’s just stuck
somewhere between my ears and my ribs,
playing on loop when the world goes quiet.

i don't want closure. i want you.
i want the arguments.
your bad advice.
your dumb laugh during car rides.
your stupid way of loving.

i want to scream that you're missing
this ugly beautiful life you were supposed to be part of.
i want to wake you up from
whatever nothing you're lying in
and drag you back here because
i don't know who i am without
you watching me become it.

they say grief softens. but all i feel is sharp.
glass where your hands should be.
fire in my chest every time someone says your name
like it’s just a word
and not my entire insides falling apart.

i still talk to you.
because stopping feels like betrayal.
because forgetting feels like murder.
because if i don’t,
who else will keep you alive?

I Remember the Light

I step into the light like it’s mine
Not borrowed, Not begged,
just something I’ve earned with quiet,
With patience,
With the kind of stillness
That bruises.

The air feels different here.
It doesn’t press against my chest.
I move without shrinking,
Without folding myself into someone else's comfort.
I speak,
and my voice doesn’t tremble.
I breathe,
and it doesn’t feel like a test.
This moment
it holds me.

Soft,
Like maybe I belong.
Like maybe I’m not just waiting to be sent back.
But then it breaks.
Not loudly, Not even suddenly.
Just a shift, a thread pulled tight
By hands that aren’t mine.

And I’m back in the room with
No windows,
No warning,
No reason I can name.
I don’t cry and I don’t even scream.

I just feel it
The sting of being undone by something
I didn’t even touch.
The ache of being measured by
Someone else’s fault.

I sit with the silence that used to feel like safety
and now feels like punishment.

I remember the light
How it felt on my skin,
How it made me forget how small
I’ve had to be.

To You, Who Stands Alone

To you, who walks the path alone, In fields of gold where dreams are flown, Your heart glides over the coast with gentle light.

To you, whose eyes reflect the stars, Who heals the world with tender scars, Your voice, a song of hope and grace, Lifts the weary, leaves no trace.

To you, who face each new day, With courage that will never sway, Your strength, a shield against the blazing fire, Keeps the fragile spirit warm.

To you, who loves with all your soul, A river deep, a steady goal, Your love, a bridge across the void, Heals the wounds where pain once toyed.

To you, who dream of brighter skies, With visions clear in hopeful eyes, Your dreams, igniting change, Transforms the world in ways so strange.

To you, who stand when others fall, With open hearts and spirits tall, Your presence, pure and true, In every heart, there's space for you

Hunger that Counts

I want to be less than skin.
Less than breath.
I want my body to fold into itself
Until it’s just memory
A faint outline on a sheet
No one changes anymore.

I want my stomach to eat itself.
I want my hunger to be louder than love,
Louder than reason, Louder than the voice
That says please stop.

I want my bones to rise like truth.
My spine to feel like a ladder
I climb out of this flesh.
I want my thighs to stop touching
To stop reminding me I exist.
I want the scale to tell me
I’m good.
To count calories
Like confessions.
I want to earn my emptiness.
To earn the right to wake up dizzy
And call it progress.
I want the scale to be my altar and
Need it to tell me
I’m closer to salvation.

I want my skin to bruise from blankets.
I want my hair to fall like petals.
I want my organs to whisper
Enough
And I want to whisper back
Not yet.

I want to be the kind of sick
That makes people look away.
The kind of thin that makes them think
She’s not going to make it.

I want to be the kind of girl
Who disappears and
No one knows how to stop it.
And I want that more than
I want to be okay.

Copper on my Tongue

The air shifts.
Not colder, just wrong.
Like the room exhales without me,
Like it knows something now
It didn’t want to know.

The cushion beneath me feels damp,
Though I haven’t moved.
My skin prickles but
Not from shame, but
From exposure,
Like I’ve peeled something back
That was never meant to be touched.

Your eyes don’t widen.
They narrow in calculation.
Scanning for cracks,
Maybe for signs of weakness.
Not searching for me, but for damage.

I smell the faint trace of your shampoo
Sweet, clean, familiar and suddenly
It makes me nauseous.
Too gentle for this moment.
Too far from where I am.

My mouth tastes like copper.
The words I said still sit on my tongue
Like blood from a bitten lip.
I swallow hard and it doesn't help.
The taste stays,
Metallic and sour, like regret that’s already curdled.

I want to rinse it out, but it’s inside me now.
The silence isn’t quiet. It hums.
Like the inside of a car after the engine cuts,
When everything feels too loud and too still
All at once.

I hear your breath
Too measured, Too careful,
Like you’re afraid even your exhale might shatter me.

It’s caution, not kindness.
My shirt sticks to my back,
The sweat being watched like a specimen.

Like I’ve become a case study in grief.
I feel the fabric cling like a second skin
I didn’t choose.

I feel my body betray me.
I see your posture shift.
Not away yet not toward.
The shift Just enough to make me feel like I’ve changed shape
And you’re recalibrating.
A half-inch of hesitation that says everything.
Like you’re trying to decide if I’m still the same person you sat down with.

There’s no comfort here and
No warmth.
Just the echo of what I said bouncing off walls that
Used to feel safe.
Now they feel like mirrors, reflecting back a version of me
I didn’t mean to show.
And you’re looking at her
Like she’s someone else.
