Ingrid Curtis Poem
I sit in class, I play pretend,
I laugh too loud, I text my friends.
They say, "Grow up," but I never did—
I’m just a kid.
I make mistakes, I talk too fast,
I dream of days that never last.
They roll their eyes at what I did—
I’m just a kid.
I hide my tears, I bite my tongue,
they say I'm weak if i try to run.
Still, no one listens, no one did—
I’m just a kid.
The world moved on, but I stayed small,
too young to rise, too old to fall.
They took too much, they always did—
I was just a kid.
