Darkness Of Life

Every morning I wake up,
Depression blanketing me.
It feels like I'm unable
To get away or be free.

I don't know if I can
Keep doing this anymore.
Every day seems to become
Even more of a chore.

I don't know how to get better.
I can't escape this dark place.
I can no longer keep
This fake smile on my face.

Life keeps getting worse
More and more each day.
I have no clue how to
Stop it or make it go away.

Every day this darkness
Finds its way inside of me,
Constantly tormenting me.
Why won't it let me be?

I don't have the strength
To pick myself up off the floor,
And I don't think I want
To save myself anymore.

Return Of Love

From the moment that we met
you began pulling my heart away
Just that text or call from you
Will easily enlighten my day

Now I look at your picture
Your beauty still makes me smile
My heart and I are attracted to you
To say otherwise would be denial

When you tell me of your struggles
It makes my heart hurts for you
If I can make your life better
Please tell me what I need to do

From making you coffee in the morning
To the dinner I prepare at night
And everything that's in between
The smile you give me is a delight

We're still getting to know each other
But I'm wrapped around your finger
Reminding me of an old emotion
The remembrance of love does linger

That four letter word I've sworn
That I was never going to say
I removed it from my vocabulary
But It was returned on this day

This is nothing I want to rush
But I believe I found happiness
You being in my life has made
My heart overflow with bliss

My Heart's Valentine

You're more than my lover,
You're also my guiding light,
Brightening my whole world,
There's no darkness in sight.

With you it seems to me
My soul has found its place,
Where I never feels alone
In your love's tender embrace.

And with only a touch
You set my world on fire,
Melting away all my fears
While setting free my desire

For that of your lips,
Delivering your tender kiss,
Making me all but lost
In our love's pure bliss.

With every breath that I take
My love feels more true.
All these years and troubles
Our love has made it through.

It will always and forever
Continue to brightly shine
For you, my beautiful wife,
My heart's dearest Valentine.

Wounds won't heal

I'm lying here tonight
All alone in this bed
My memories of you
Dance through my head.

They cause my tears
To fall down like rain
Why do your memories
Have to come with pain?

My favorite memory of us
It hurts me most of all
It's the one that will
Always make me bawl.

It squeezes my heart
With all it can strain
And laughs as I fall down
Unable to endure the pain.

The tears keep falling
And the pain to build
But my love for you
Refuses to ever yield.

Though this heartbreak
I continue to love you still
Only when I stop loving you
Will these wounds ever heal.

Big Kid Small Town

When I was a kid, about ten,
Living in a very small town,
The streets were all gravel,
And I was free until sundown.

I would leave the house each day,
Ride my bike to get my friend,
And we would race across town,
All four blocks from end to end.

The only places we went
Were the park or the little store.
We got two pieces of gum
For a quarter, sometimes more.

Pedaling like hell to get away,
We were outlaws on the run.
The park only had two swings,
But those monkey bars were fun.

We'd go home when hungry,
Eat, then be back out the door.
That big taste of freedom
In that small town we'd explore.

Never once was there a worry
Until the sun started to fade.
When the street light came on,
My curfew had been made.

I'd tell my buddy goodbye
And make my way back home.
A little kid who felt grown
In that tiny town I'd roam.

Key To My Happiness

When I laid my eyes on you,
In that very moment I knew
You were sent especially
For me to give my love to.

Out of nowhere, like the wind,
You appear with magical love.
It felt different from the beginning,
It felt delivered from God above.

There were pieces of my life
That had been missing for me.
You brought them all with you
To my happiness, you're the key.

Long before we were married
Or you thought of being my wife,
To me, you already had become
The most important person in life.

You had taken a broken me
And with your love you healed
Everything inside that life and love
Over the years had almost killed.

I will never be able to repay you
For all you've done and give.
I don't believe it'd be possible
With a hundred lives to live.

You mean the world to me.
I couldn't survive life alone.
To me, you are the safest
Home that I've ever known.

Winds Of Change

For years, I was cautious
About who I gave my heart.
I'd always known love hurts,
So I tried to play it smart.

Then you walked into my life
And stole my heart from me.
There wasn't any struggle,
It just happened so naturally.

In all my years of life,
This hadn't happened before.
My heart, you stole away,
Was finally able to soar.

My love that grew for you
Was so pure and strong.
Life with you was natural,
Together we had to belong.

Then one day, like the wind,
For no reason, you just change.
You weren't the person I loved,
You were someone strange.

I gave you all I had,
For you it wasn't enough.
That, or all your love
Was nothing but a bluff.

Regardless, it was my heart
That had to pay the price.
It was laid out on an altar
And used as a sacrifice.

Memories Of Black

There is so much pain inside of me.
My heart is sinking deep in my chest.
My body has grown so weak,
But I hurt too much to rest .

I try to remember when I was happy,
Yet those memories won't come back.
Where those memories should be,
I can't see anything but black.

My memories of happiness are gone.
They have all been removed from my past.
All I can see is pain in my future,
I don't know how long I can last.

This hurting is too much at times,
I believe it's driving me insane.
I would gladly welcome death,
Then I would no longer feel this pain.

Picture Of Perfection

If perfect was a picture,
That picture would be of you.
Every aspect of your being
Is simply too good to be true.

Your hair is an enchanting sight,
A stunning shade of red.
There for all the world to see,
Worn like a crown upon your head.

Your eyes are elegant as emeralds,
They are exclusive and pristine.
Mystifying the whole world
With their intense yet delicate green.

At your skin I can only marvel,
It's a soft and creamy white.
Graced with a sprinkling of freckles,
Such a truly magnificent sight.

From your head to your toes,
There is not a single flaw.
Your beauty it is so unique,
Something the world has never saw.

Every time I take a look,
I find something that is new.
In this picture of perfection,
This picture that is you.

My Promise I'll Keep

When we first fell in love,
You told me you were scared.
Lovers always run away from
Problems in the love you shared.

I promised you that wasn't me
And I'd never run off on you.
If something happened in life,
Together we would see it through.

Well, that problem finally arrived
And I was shocked by surprise.
You were running away from me.
I didn't see any tears in your eyes.

Now we barely even talk.
You keep pushing me away,
Knowing that I promised you
That I would always stay.

This is going to hurt a lot,
That I can already tell.
You are going to break my heart
And put me through hell.

Even if I only get your love
Like scraps thrown to a stray,
I'll be right there waiting
For what you give that day.

And when we get past this,
I'll be right there for you.
I can't give up on our love.
I've never had one so true.
