An Invite isn't a Gesture to Change me

If I invite you into my home, please do not show up with the floor plan and Pinterest boards of your ideas to decorate it as you see fit.
I like the plants I have hung up and the rainbow catchers hung in the window. They bring in growth and sunshine.
And before you forget, make sure when you exit you lock the door behind you. Because I told you, this chair you brought with you, well it just does not fit.
So maybe next time, you can sit in the chair I gave you that already was here waiting for someone who could sit and not just stand by and visit.

I came back to Myself

One year from now.
If you came back to me...
I probably would not believe it.
Did he come back?
They would ask.
And I would reply.
Yes.
And then I would say.
I chose myself anyway.
Because that is the thing about losing someone you love.
You end up finding yourself and having a glow up.
You shine bright when you walk in the rooms,
fill them with smiles and laughter.
Your friends and family tell you.
You are looking so much happier.
I will come home and feel myself be lighter.
Light a candle, brush my hair, lay in bed and read a book.
Maybe color in the lines and paint my nails...
Do all of the routines that help me ground myself to me.
Today, I love myself.
A year ago, I would not have believed you.
If you told me, I came back to myself.

Moonflower

We showcased our hearts and wounds to each other in hopes we would stick around to see better shapes.
I didn't get to trace all of you with my fingertips, unfortunately you shredded some pages that you tore out of our book and kept not all the details in one place.
But the story of us can't exactly be erased.
You see, the narrative I have is right in front of your face.
I guess it goes to show I took us more seriously.
Maybe I was actually a placeholder for her.
And you can twist the words and dim the light on my growth.
But don't forget that I am a moonflower, and I grow at night in the darkest of the hours.

Picture This

You call me on one random night.
And I answer.
You tell me you're sorry for leaving and it was a mistake.
Just as I had hoped.
Because how could you forget when we were in my room, laying on my bed.
Tracing your fingers with my finger tips.
Sharing secrets and the journeys we have made until we found eachother.
Your face looked beautiful under my fairy lights in my bedroom.
Remember, March ninth?
Your face will look even better standing at my door under my porch light.
Maybe this picture was just a dream.

Accountability

Self-reflection is only half of the work. The full work is owning up and taking action. Don't abuse the power of grace you give yourself.

Yellow Sadness

Tiny houses and tiny hands.
The orange sunrays at dawn,
thickens into a darkness we draw upon.

Cold sheets and cold hearts,
filled with flowers that fall apart.
The smell of roses to see a start.

Warm weather and warm places.
Teach us how yellow we could be,
but rips us apart until we bleed.

Colorful tapestries and colorful lights.
See into a sweet-bitter darkness.
The temptations to seek happiness.

Yellow sadness and yellow frowns.
Shows us that happiness isn't true.
Happy colors, go from black to blue.

Black happiness and black smiles.
Shows you that even the darkest ones can be happy.
But only smiles when the world is going crazy.

Loud sounds and loud minds.
Change the world at the blink of an eye.
Just to show everyone it is okay to cry.

Healing

You are right, you aren't an addiction.
I have now realized pretty baby, you are the medicine I needed to heal myself.

Self-Tough Love

Be careful with giving yourself too much grace and kindness. Sometimes we benefit from giving ourselves tough love too. - Strength

Under Construction

My mind, body and spirit are under construction right now. The only people allowed to trespass is myself, me, and I, the worker of self. Only I am qualified to get this job done.

Pouring into you

I swallowed my pride and looked at my ego and told myself I could make it work and love you in ways I did not think I could because I do that for myself every day.
