Now and then

Peering back through misted glass.
You.
An intimately known stranger next to me.
Echo waves lap in and out of my mind...
Reality? Looped events pulsating.
Can't trust the cine film past.
Click. Thud. Tapdancing on my heart.
Staccato feelings.
Drop by drop I return to myself.
Phoenix.

Spring

The light is more present than it use to be.
Spiderweb hopes hang heavy with dew tears -
Resilient against the odds!
The frost finger fears: a threat still lurking
...in the darkness...
Tiny trust shoots tentatively test their way forth

Inhaling the air deeply; drinking it in:
Both crisp, cold and biting
...but...
full of the butterfly kisses of the sun's rays.
The dancing of crane fly hopes
Can they really take off?

Standing at the edge of the river
The scaffolding of new enterprise lay ready.
I watch the ebb and flow echo in my soul,
Finally a rhythm that I can understand.
It might be alright.

New Life

Hermit crab human scuttling about
In my new life. Ill fitting suit.
Like wearing your mother's clothes -
Clip clopping around the kitchen...
High heals filled with little feet...
And dreams of an old lady and her children.
Have I wandered too far into the fiction section.
My old life discarded on the floor
It no longer fits. Too tight. Constricting now.
Still warm with memories as I nudge it with my toe.
Now there's room to grow -
rather baggy if truth be told.
I twist and turn in front of the mirror.
Trying to imagine a time this feels like home.

Renew

Incense whispers drift skywards
Echos amid the memory boxes.

Prising lids off revealing recollection relics -
Fragments labeled and categorised.
I run my hand over each:
Exploring the worn grooves of emotion -
Branded into being human by perspective!
Examining each piece I question it's reality...
Is it time to redefine? rediscover? to re-remember?

The pathway forward is revealed by
Incense whispers drifting skywards...

Raining in Summer

Was it really raining outside
or was it just in my head?
Were those pearls from above
actually cascading down?
Or was it just my sorrow
letting my hopes drown?

Pathetic fallacy burst forth
from a novels page.
With sunflower queens
bowing their heads,
as the might of the heavens
filled them with dread.

Lightening tongues rip -
through the sky and the page.
As thunder's foreboding rumbling
echos around my heart.
The line dividing reality...
and fantasy is found to be tumbling.

Butterfly whispers reach me -
tenderly from another world.
As I close the book and raise my eyes,
expecting the jewellery of summer
to fill my gaze from outside -
I see rain to my great surprise!

Never Again

The cacophony of headlines spills into homes.
Living rooms swell with images of death.
Horror hails against insulated windows...
A fusillade of destruction and trauma
Resonating in a global conscience.
Barrages of how's and why's rally...
...between...
brothers, sisters;
wives, husbands;
fathers, mothers;
sons, daughters.
All comsuming blitz of bewilderment.
Disbelief pierced by shrapnal of reality.
Darkness, without peace, smothers Europe
again

Mental health

They say a lifetime is a year
But I've lived through may seasons
Winters so harsh and lonely
That I can not breath.
Pursued by shards of ice at every turn -
Ominous autumn with their East winds
I've ignored to my peril!
Fleeting summers: dancing carefree
Unaware of what was to come
Spring, heavy with the dew of
...hopeful...anticipation...
Seasons come an go
But feel eternal
As the cloak of age desents
My only wish is for wisdom
Of what is to come
...and go...

Anxiety

A creature dwells behind me
Always lurking, skulking
Robed in shadows, waiting, hovering.
At times a ferocity of claws, shrieks -
Icy vice like grips plunging through me!
Others; a gnawing poisenous whisper...
...seeping slowing...
Through me. Again. Again.
Armour of rational thought and pragmatism/
Disintegrates upon his command.
Positivity swords rebound and shatter!
And so once more I slip, unnoticed,
Back - back - back
To his chosen lair.

Reverse Graffiti

A celestial dancer,
pirouettes through the prismatic tapestries.
It's luminescent waltz, illuminating secrets whispered at the crossroads of reality...
...the fabric of time...
...twisting the alchemy of existence.
The
universe
bends.
