Call the Question

You're gone but not forgotten
youve shown me and displayed
the ropes that now are rotten
that held us to this grave

And in this space between us
where empty now resides
we've filled the void with cautious
memories that cannot die

These things that pulled us further
and deeper in these lies
I never thought you'd move her
to the apple of your eye

You can't unbreak the pieces
that have fallen here between us
and throw it in my face

Anthem

You wear a ripped up slice of agony to show you what emotion is
that cuts and penetrates so deep you have a million tiny pieces
and never ceases
to remind you of your weakness
Weakness, a painful work you don't allow
created by the ones without the tools who are the fools that take the vow
of life
where the pain and ache is not applicable
and the only way to suffer is to make it imperceivable

If you block out the faces, places, silent spaces
rewind-erase it
come and take it here I am
splintered, broken - here i stand
and yet the song still plays and reprimands
the song of all our fears
a cadence made of tears
of sin and disobedience, and yet despite this
I hope someday to find a pocket full of posies
Ashes to dust and dust due to neglect
What happens when the ring around the rose becomes the noose around your neck?

Tarnished

It took so much to see what you left destroyed
You had it at one time, but you left it here denied
I don't know how to make you want what you don't have
And you bask in tiny smiles, but I stand here so defiled

A tortured scream can mimic all that's in your soul
Did you think that you were pure? Because I never thought you were
You took for keeps the things I thought I never had
And you locked them deep inside and wore them on your pride

Hate washes clean
The mask is stripped away
Your poison flows into my veins

Nadir

Tabled all my thoughts to keep them empty
Walked alone to make the voices die
Never thought pebbles would make waves that crested over all the sunlight
and brought my hopes down with the colors of the sky

Nothing there to balance what is spinning
I cannot let the phantoms gain control
My pulse quickens as the chaos starts to envelope all the silence
Can't make the pieces come together as a whole

American Beauty

You taste like something darker that I thought was only mine
And to recognize this demon sends whispers down my spine
I've toyed with all my questions
You've played with all my lies
Making minutes slip to hours and never hoping to defy

the way it complicates me when I try to push you out
When I see you looking in it give disruption to my doubt
But the ache is rather pleasant
I grow to know it everyday
Because you cleanse me of my wrongs and at your temple I will pray

Hope you find some inspiration while I'm collapsed here at your feet
Holding pieces of my heart together hoping it will beat
And you know tht I am flawed
Because I wear it on my sleeve
And I know I'm safe at home and part of me will never leave

Life Long Gone

If my hunger held you over
there would be nothing you would need
you could dine on my desire
and be sated from the feed

If my words were strong enough
you could be kept from the cold
I would wrap you in the verses
with the stories I have told

If my aching cleanses wrongs
redemption would be found
apologies and intentions
leave me tethered to the ground

If my sadness makes you real
then real you seem to be
I have a purpose urging
sadly longing to be free
