Martin Hayes Poem
I was 20 life ahead
40 to me was slightly dead
I was told that I’d get there
But why should I really care
Time moved on and 40 me
My eyes open, I could see
Asked this lad 20 he
About my life, namely me
He said mate, you’re ahead
40 mate is slightly dead
I replied, please be fair
I maybe old, I’ll see you there
So now I’m 60, 40 past
I saw this lad, I had to ask
So now you’re 40 do you see
What I meant when 40 me
He replied that he felt old
I was 20, life was gold
I said you have 20 more
Make it good and don’t be sore
I was 20, 60 me
Why take note, you are not me
I do not wish to live through you
Or be your age
Say what to do
I only want to make you see
I was 20, 60 me.
