The Poet by Max Burchett

by Max Burchett

A writer, singer and songwriter,
A crooner, a teller of tales,
A dream maker, a soul shaker and captivator,
Hoping in verse and prose he prevails.

I Dream by Max Burchett

by Max Burchett

a poem for lyrics for Golden Hearts charity anthem
Available on SoundCloud /maxburchett/i-dream

There is so much we can do.
I hope we can,
I believe we can.
Let your love show
For those who cannot.
Just have to see
What a new world can be.
Changing course of fate,
Help before it is too late.
Breaking chains of poverty.
I want to dream a dream,
Hope you believe,
So come and dream with me.

Let’s come together hand-in-hand,
Imagine beyond what has ever been.
Let’s find a way to a brighter day
When love and kindness will win,
With every step of the way,
Together we will do more.
That is what we are here for.
Lift your voice and sing with me now.
I want to dream a dream.
Hope you believe,
So come and dream with me.

Dream of a better world
With less broken hearts.
Come ‘on and join me now,
it is about time we start.
Dream things that never were
And ask why not?
Now that we have come so far,
Let’s give it all we have got,
Giving with Golden Hearts.

Black Swans by Max Burchett

by Max Burchett

Black swans are a thing.
That thing never seen before,
Not known to exist,
What has never happened before.

If you can think of it,
Can expect or imagine it,
That swan is not black, or a swan
Just a strange possibility.

I discovered my own personal swans
Surprised by, not discovered
Personal tsunamis, personal lottery wins
Not the Vegas kind; rather, the lotteries of life.

Never imagined things I might do
Or would happen while racing into eternity
Is the incredible waiting to spring
What will it mean for me, or you?

Wonderfully good, or bad beyond belief?
Shocks of the universe or just for your life?
Intimate black swans while on your way,
The chance encounter changing life.

Unknown unknowns.
No need to worry.
Can’t do anything about
A new wrinkle in what in life can’t expect.

The unexpected we can never know
Until fate dishes it out.
Destiny that was there all along,
A high or low note of life’s song.

Good Day By Max Burchett

by Maxwell "Max" Sebastian Burchett

I present these lyrics today,
For you to consider if you would,
An idea I propose, to find a way
To designate a day for doing good.

It is about time now
We start finding a way
That leads us somehow
To a brighter day.

Whatever it takes
Now before it is too late,
One little step by each, then a giant leap by all
That might improve the world for one, or all.

These rhymes propose a new holiday.
A new national day, call it what you may,
Perhaps Pay-It-Forward Day.
No, let’s say “Good Day!"

A day recognized as a time to remind,
A new day when all of goodwill,
If they can, if they will,
Do one thing for the good.

For a friend, or
Even for a foe,
For family, or
For a stranger you do not know.

A day set aside
Dedicated to making one small thing better,
Lifting one person higher,
Together, many higher and higher.

An extra, kind gesture unplanned,
Whatever you feel you should,
A kind word, maybe something grand,
An unexpected act of good.

Now is the time.
We do not really know
If we have one day more.
Now is the time for a Good Day!

Abyss of Addiction, Max Burchett

by Maxwell "Max" Sebastian Burchett
In every street and town, Poisons abound, Tricking the mind, Destroying the brain. Some seek it out For cheaper effect, But have to pay with their bodies, And pay with their lives. Unwittingly lured By a false sense of escape Becoming victims To an insidious grip. Drugs, nothing new, in times past In shadows it thrived, the silent foe Unseen, ever present in varied forms Still claiming lives, shattering dreams. Still the silent whisper beckons, Drug allure persists, a Siren’s song, Promising solace, momentary bliss, But the price of escape, greater suffering and death. Generation to generation, the cycle repeats, Drugs evolve, taking on different disguises, Still offering refuge from life’s defeats, But devastation and darkness, all the same. Victims seeking a way to battle their demons, The drug becomes a demon itself. Then finally, the addicts' only friend, Their deadly companion to life’s end.

The Gift By Max Burchett

by Maxwell "Max" Sebastian Burchett
However you say the name, Mom, Mum, Momma, Mommy, We all feel the same. Dear Mother, Thank you! For all you did for me. You did not have to, I know, it was all a genuine gift. You wanted to. Every meal, all I wore, Did not matter, if a little or more, You gave all you had, was mine, Then touched my heart with loving words, and stories read, Your voice, stored always in my mind. The love you gave Was like no other gift in this world, Greater than all earthly things. What carried me on, What meant more, Was your gift Of love divine. Thank you, Mama!

Until Then By Max Burchett

Until Then
by Max Burchett

Pop song on SoundCloud based on lyrics of this “Until Then” poem
maxburchett/until-then

Through the years and years,
what a life it has been.
Together fighting for
what we believe in.
And we are still standing,
still believing.
Never looking back, we are still on track,
on the road again.
Until then…

Until then,
we are not alone.
Wherever we are goin’
on roads unknown.
In spirit higher and higher,
together we are soaring.
Hand in hand we are going.
Until then…

I will remember you
and in the end I know we will make it through.
As time leads us on from here,
I will remember you.
We are always friends,
on the road again.
Until then…

Glory To the Departed, Max Burchett

Glory to the Departed
by Maxwell "Max" Sebastian Burchett
I had to be free. Now I am gone, But remember me So freedom goes on. Not an easy road to take. Hope there’s another way for you. Pray it is not your fate To die for freedom’s cause, too. Some are called upon To suffer for all, to be free So that life goes on, Finally in peace and liberty, let it be. No greater love for a friend, Think of that if you think of me. For you all, my life had to end. All people have to be free. Glory to the bravehearted! Glory to the departed! Photography by Robert Pender

Unknown Soldiers by Max Burchett

by Maxwell "Max" Sebastian Burchett
One Memorial Day made me consider The many tombs to unknown soldiers, In memoriam to the lost From wars then and now, Unnamed ghosts. Is memory of all without any names, The memory of none? Surely the names were known to some, All missed and mourned by a loved one. All had mothers with pain and grief unknown. Those who fought for some cause, Maybe not theirs, Still paid the price with their lives, In near and distant wars, Extinguished in fire. I know enough of hate, Of powers’ desire, To know wars will consume Without any end More names for the unknown tomb.

Me To You By Max Burchett

Me To You
by Max Burchett

Pop song on SoundCloud based on lyrics of this “Me to You” poem
at /maxburchett/me-to-you

Though nobody else could see,
I knew what was best for me.
I went the winding way I knew I had to go,
There were some who said I should not though.
I took the long road nobody else would
Just because I knew I could.
I took the hard road I found.
You know the world could not keep me down.
Going my way, I know it is true,
Was the road that led, me to you.
...Me to you!

Back when, I had two ways to go
Either way, I could have gone.
Looking down those roads was not clear
Where life could go from here.
Thought long and hard about what to do.
Could not see where those two roads led to.
I knew I would never, never be coming back.
No regrets, that is a fact!

Tell you now with a sigh,
Ages and ages hence,
Two ways I could have gone.
The long and winding road I traveled on
Took me to the top, not down.
Glad to say, I did it my way;
It made such a brighter day.
I did not let anything get in the way.
With only one chance to find what life could be,
I found you and the life I dreamed would be!
