Falling Behind

I can’t ever catch up to you
You always seem to be two steps away
But I can never seem to reach you
It feels like I’ll be chasing after you forever
I wish I was as fast as you
I could run with you holding hands
Cherishing being together
I try to catch up to you
I try to throw a lasso
The rope untwines in my hands
I run faster
But the faster I run the more the gap widens
I try to shout for you
Yell your name
I trip in my own steps
I trip over a rock
Three steps
Four steps
The gap only widens the harder I try
The gap seems like a ocean now
I guess I can’t ever catch up to you
I guess I’ll just stand and watch

Swords Kill

He thought he was brave and full of wit
He thought so indeed, but the grave is what he bit
The sword raised above him, a tune of horror
The man begged like a peasant, but poorer
The sword drew closer, giving a glimpse of the light
The man drew his eyes closed, dying in fright

Chrysanthemums

I glance over
A rose in bloom
Or a gold Egyptian tomb
You look the same as you did last October

I make sure to visit you every day
The sky always looks gloomy
The space between us is too roomy
I can’t bring myself away

I wish I was closer to you
Barriers separate us in many ways
You left me in a daze
Can we ever start anew?

I bring you flowers every time
Sometimes I wonder if you remember me
The petals fall onto you like debris
In this light, I bet you look divine

I wonder what you would’ve looked like in the present
It was so long ago
To you, I owe
I wish I could get to you, the descent

I fall to my knees on the dirt
Tears fall down freely
My feelings for you are ideally
I know you wouldn’t like to see me hurt

My hand rests on your tomb
Fingers trace your name
I glance at your photo frame
The uncanny look of doom

School

They say school is a diamond of time
An exquisite part of any select persons life
But not mine
School is a prison
The bars keeping my ideas deep inside

Tiny bits of escape
Ideas bubbling to the surface
But school ties a brick to them
Sinking deeper
Till it hits rock bottom

You can only be held in prison for so long
For most at least
Just like prison, some have a death sentence
Not making it out
They lie in the shadows of achievers

They waste away in their cells of sorrow
Wishing they could accomplish what many have
School is the make or break of society
The only question is
Will it break you too?

My pearl

My pearl,
I loved so much.
A hole through the middle-
Stringed into a necklace-
Right on my chest.
Love was too small of a word to describe;
How I felt.
One day, it was stolen.
My pearl;
The one I held so dear,
Stolen by sullied hands.
Left alone, I felt it,
Part of me was missing;
Ruined by another.
My pearl was sullied.
Others laughed.
For it was just a pearl
But I knew it wasn't.

A letter to my muse

To my muse;
This poem you surely must peruse.
Many of these lines, I will lose-
But look around and into my clues

As I look deep into your soul,
Bits of love fill that hole.
For a muse, you fit that role,
When your love's my only goal.

I hope this letter finds you well,
And my words catch you under a spell.
I write these words for you, to tell,
That I love you and all is swell.

Footprints

I see reminders of Him;
Carved into the trees,
On the sides of roads.
I’d like to think it’s more than pure coincidence-
That He leaves signs for me to see.
I’ve heard about the man’s footsteps in the sand.
I too, feel like the man.
My footsteps remain the track of one person,
But I feel Him-
Holding my hand along the way.
I try my best to hold onto Him,
Even though sometimes I don’t feel a hand.
And when I don’t feel His hand,
I keep my faith.
For I know,
That He is still in my heart.
