I Wish

I wish I could use public restrooms without being afraid.
I wish I wasn't uncomfortable in my body.
I wish I wasn't assigned female at birth.
I wish others would use my correct name and pronouns.
I wish people would see that there's more to me than just a label.
I wish I had a supportive family.
I wish I didn't live in rural missouri.
I wish my peers would be more kind.
I wish my country wasn't so against my existence .
I wish others would not see seven years of being out as ¨just a phase¨.
I wish I could be me.
Unapologetically me.

If You Were a Color

If you were a color you would be dark green.
Not a musty or dusty dark green,
But a comforting rich dark green.
The type of green that smells like the calm before a much needed storm.
The type of green that people say to get your bed sheets in because it helps you sleep better.
The type of green that reminds you of the north west coast.
The green of jade stones.
The green of coniferous trees.
I love the color green,
Because it reminds me of you.

Run

You text me late at night
Saying you need someone to be there
Or the darkness in your mind might get you

I call you
And you cry and vent and let your heart out
I hear the desperation in your voice
I wish I could crawl through the phone to you.
I wish I could grab my keys and run
Run
          Run
                    Run
All the way to you.
I wish I could hold you in my arms
Hold you tight
Keep you safe from the cruel world
