Pride of Place

Pride of Place

On high his picture takes centre stage
He speaks to the room how his eyes do engage
Tall and proud and weathered with age
How I wish it were a book so I could turn the page

To know what lay beyond that moment in time
Of that man so intriguing and still in his prime
If he just could but out of that picture climb
He could tell me his story and oh how sublime

Tasmania

Tasmania

The moment I set foot on that beautiful isle
I felt so at home I just had to smile
Like going back in time and still so pristine
My heart skipped a beat and set the scene

Such contrasting landscapes to behold
Nothing to dislike not even the cold
Windswept beaches to snow capped peaks
Fish laden lakes and mountain creeks

With rainforests among the oldest on earth
I treasured my time there for all it was worth
I knew when I left there I would come back again
I did to my new home forever to remain

Distant Hope

Distant Hope

Ukraines blue and yellow flag
For its azure skies and wheat laden fields
Colours of freedom and hope
And gratitude for what the land yields

Those same blue skies now shrouded in darkness
Lives torn apart, destruction all around
Tall sunflowers left to dwindle and die
As evil tentacles reach out and abound

Women and children flee as bombs rain down
Husbands, fathers, sons stay to fight
Brave men led by their fearless leader
The enemy forges on with all its might

But Ukraines resolve and spirit lives on
Determination etched in their hearts
They will not give up their land easily
They will fight till the enemy departs

As the world watches on holding its breath
We pray that they continue to resist
Those that try to destroy their souls
And wish them to no longer exist

We hope and pray that victory will be theirs
We wish there was more we could do
To help Ukraine overcome adversity
And return to the life they once knew

Rebirth

Stark contrasts on a background of lucent wonder
Stillness prevails but all is not what it seems
Snowy branches cry tears of dripping ice
Into crystal clear waters of streams

Harsh winds whip up suddenly unannounced
And threatening clouds begin to form and swirl
The landscape stirs as if awakening from a dream
Once silent now revealed the world unfurls

Bunyip

Bunyip

Early settlers heard its screams
Lurking in billabongs, creeks and streams
A myth or real that question remains
Indigenous folklore further explains

Perhaps a cultural memory of an animal extinct
Though the image of the Bunyip for them is distinct
Bones and skulls have been found over the years
Attributed to the Bunyip, adding to their fears

The tales of the creature weave a story so seeming
Its belief and existence a feature of The Dreaming

Acceptance

Acceptance

For the longest time I lost the love for myself
That true deep acceptance in the soul
That I'll never be perfect no matter what
And it's ok to be fractured, not whole

I stumble, I fail, I fall
I struggle, I hurt and I cry
I misjudge, trust too deeply, I crumble
My sharp angles, my faults do defy

But knowing people still love me
Warts and all they see past
Begs me to believe in myself again
If they can, so can I at last

I'm happy now with that image
From the mirror that does reflect
I've won the battle of wits
Knowing still I'm not perfect

I love those scars I no longer hide
I love what the ravages of time show
I'm whole in my psyche and being
From within I radiate a glow

Acceptance on every level
Internally and all without
I love myself wholly and fully
And I declare it without a doubt

Archbishop Tutu you forever changed our world
Dear advocate for freedom and peace

In those whose hearts you touched and reached

A Moment In the Life Of

Hello Ive come a long way today
From the sunflower over yonder
To land on your arm and to say
Will you shoo me away I wonder

I observe you and you observe me
Can we be friends do you think
See how my wings flutter and shine
How hot is your skin and so pink

Did you flinch at all when I landed
I wont hurt you at all I swear
Just let me sit here for a little while
And in a flash Ill be gone from here

Away away on the wind see me fly
To my home beyond the wall
Out of sight and out of mind
To come again will you recall

My Hearts Hope

My Hearts Hope

There's a hairline fracture in my heart
That divides my heart in two
One half is the painful side
Forever hurt and blue

The other half is full of hope
And belief that love is real
It helps me forget my painful part
It prods me to believe and heal

That broken half has forgotten
It only remembers the pain
It bleeds and aches in spasms
In fear of being hurt again

Some broken hearts never truly mend
But there's one thing I know for sure
A broken heart that mends can't be broken again
It's too strong as love is the cure

Echoes

A memory or vision or a tale long ago
From a dream, my imagination or real
Entering my minds eye as a knowing
Faint, fleeting or a ripple of an echo

In a dream I felt it brush my cheek
Ever so lightly yet everlastingly
A truth but the source now forgotten
A reminder to my soul and being
