Well That Hurt

On a cruise ship in the sea
breaking blue waves peacefully,
yet once we land and I descend
the coral moves and shifts and bends.
Out comes something small and sweet
but packing punch; I know I'm beat.
A jellyfish: minuscule and bright
it shocks me and I'm full of light.
Grappling to the surface now
with water dripping off my brow,
"that sucked" I think, "It hurt like hell."
My trip to Jamaica sure was swell.

Bare Back

Despite the fact my heart will thump,
or wind will whip, or trees will creak,
I'll ignore the sounds and voices and shouts.
The people are loud and my head is desperate,
so I'll muffle the noises and listen intently.
It's not a chime anymore, it's a whisper.
The idea of it is gentle and warm, but accompanied by fluttering.
Escapism is a whisper, and the jailer is a shout.
Freedom and wings go hand and hand; my back is bare.
I'll make the wings myself,
I've done it before.

Transcendence

There's simply more than meets the eye
and yet most think after we die
is when we rise above this plane;
a new existence we shall reign.

These thoughts are wrong and light is life
now look beyond the pain and strife
Objects are not what they may seem
we can not see what we don't dream.

Lights and brainwaves crash to make
reality is put at stake
But what's the cost of mortal life
if we transcend the afterlife.

"Look," I'll beg for weeks on end
"Please look, just look!" their sights will bend,
They'll see, I think, what I see now
Rise above, you can't ask how.
