Shotgun 2

Silence,
Silence,
All I hear is silence

Through phones we are loud
And so we vowed
That shootings are disallowed

But in person we are quiet
In order to return balance
We need to stand up and start a riot

While the amendment states,
“The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”
This amendment dances and circles around people’s fates
You can no longer continue the wait

Gunshots fly through the air,
Ready to pierce whatever is near
And so we send our thoughts and prayers
As some pretend that they were never there

When is enough, enough?
When graveyards are stuffed and stuffed?

Now imagine, with compassion
That your child filled with passion,
Is shot and killed, would you call for action?

Now imagine, as gunshots ring
That the NRA is counting their cash, cha-ching cha-ching
While your child’s life, is hung on a string

So those who believe in keeping their gun rights, my question is this
Is your rights worth the crimes those commit?
Will you continue to allow these permits?

Or will you like the rest of us
Continue to discuss
To ensure that these crimes do not go unjust?

The choice is yours,
But don’t forget all the pain we’ve endured
To allow your gun rights to stay secured

Lights and sound ring loud
Tears and screams cry out don’t leave
Heart beats soon fade out

Dear Society, You, Are Unforgivable

You are unforgivable

Dear society,
Are you happy?
You’ve seen us tear each other apart
You’ve seen us crawl to the finish line
All for what?
Just so we can meet your standards?
Who are you?
Why do you have power?
Why do you allow us to fall apart just for some fake title?
For some fake crown?

You are unforgivable

Little girls starve themselves to fit the perfect shape,
They look in the mirror and hate who they see
They think that they’re not pretty,
Just because they don’t fit the mold
Little boys suppress their emotions to be a man,
To be strong,
Because crying is for the weak
People do dangerous trends and tricks,
Just to be famous,
To be “trendy”
We all have this fake definition of perfection,
This is your fault

You are unforgivable

Kids take their lives,
They’re tired of living,
They’re tired of trying
Self harm is only a temporary solution,
Kids grow up angry,
Hating themselves,
Hating the world,
Hating everything

You are unforgivable

We have voices as loud as lions,
But our voices have been tamed
We have the strength of a bear,
But are hunted down
We had trust like wolves,
But have been betrayed too many times
We used to be butterflies,
Our transformations used to be unique
They used to be awed and supported
But now we’re dull and similar
We’re now like robots,
Following the same command,
The same trend,
The same standards

You are unforgivable

We listen to you,
We look up to you
We’re all caught up,
Trying to fit in,
Trying to follow the rules
Trying to follow everyone else
To fit in
So when you say something is wrong,
We follow with fear
We join in without a second thought,
Because we are afraid,
We are afraid to be next
With one snap of a finger,
We could be the ones turned on

You are unforgivable

Dear Ducklings

My Ducklings,
Like roses,
They’re soft and delicate,
With thorns,
They’re ready to prick

My Ducklings,
Hard like rocks,
Study like bamboo

My Ducklings,
Like a butterfly,
Their transformations are unique,
Beautiful
Like a dog
Loyalty is key
Like a beaver,
Their work ethic is unrivaled

My ducklings,
The ones who are able to make me laugh,
To deal with my anger,
My sadness,
My anxiety
Even though they harass me,
And I harass them,
I wouldn’t trade them for anything
They make me happy,
They make me whole
To me,
They’re perfect

Marieke,
My original duckling,
My measle the weasel,
Never learning to go wide,
Like an elephant,
Their patients is a gift

Randy,
My dirty duckling,
Who’s mind is a mystery
Like a monkey,
Their humor is their best quality
Always able to bring up the mood

Leila,
My innocent duckling
Who has a voice like a lion,
Who’s roar makes everyone listen
Who has things to say
A natural born leader

Avery,
My snake duckling,
The idiot who chews gum during soccer,
Who gets beat up,
Like a deer,
They have strength with gentleness

Foreste,
My stalker duckling,
My problematic child,
My toad,
Who’s artistic abilites are unfathomable
Who’s obsession with mushrooms are a cause for concern

My ducklings are what I'm thankful for this year

Death of a Rose

While petals fall down
Hearts are broken always changed
On the ground they fade

Deep Blue

I want to be a rock, or a shell, or even a grain of sand
I want to leap into the ocean and travel away from this land
I want to be a wave, crashing and pulling
Or like the wind dancing and twirling
Maybe a seagull, or otter, or seal
Even seaweed or sea kelp would close the deal
I want to close my eyes and have waves crash over me
I want to know what it feels like when I return to sea

Shotgun

Gunshots ring out
Too many bodies to count
Running and hiding
While bullets keep firing
Blood sprays
Where bodies lay
Going to the light
Because of gun rights
But my question is this,
Is your right worth the crimes those commit?

The Fall

For a Country with the word United
We are all extremely divided
Red or blue, wrong or right
No party goes down without a fight
One thing is clear
Built from hatred and fear
Our doom is near

Curiosity Killed the Cat

As children, we are taught to not question those “above us”
We’re taught to stay quiet and to stay in our own lanes,
But why is that?
Why do we have the saying “Curiosity Killed the Cat?”
Is it a way of society keeping us all in line?
Is it a way for society to scare us into submission?

As a child, I’ve always been curious of things around me
But was taught in school that curiosity killed the cat
Don’t question to much, or you’ll be dead
I wanted to question that saying, but was told not to
Did Curiosity really kill the cat?
Or was it those around it?

In many ways and situations,
We are the cat,
Full of curiosity, full of life
But then, we step out of line,
And get squashed down,
Essentially killed.

But other times,
We are those who kill the cat
We’re all caught up in society,
Following the rules,
Following everyone else,
Fitting in
So when society says something is wrong,
We join in without a second thought,
For fear that we could be next

But why do we do this?
Why does society get to choose who’s in and who’s out?
But most importantly,
Why do we let this happen?
If we know it’s wrong,
Why don’t we do something about it?
Why can’t we stand up?
Why can’t we make our own rules?

Down the Rabbit Hole

Sometimes I feel like Alice,
I’m falling down a rabbit hole,
Spinning and spinning
However,
Unlike her,
I don’t come out into wonderland,
I just fall into nothing
I just feel nothing
And it’s scary,
It really is

Sometimes I’m just afraid of myself
Of how I act,
How I see,
How I feel
It’s like I don’t truly know who I am
And I don’t know how to feel

It’s like I’m an empty hole
Trying to fill it with whatever
Whatever makes me happy,
Whatever makes me sane,
Whatever makes me feel something,
Anything

It’s like I’m desperate to not feel numb
Like I’m desperate to not be a robot,
Doing the same thing,
Everyday,
With no thought,
No feeling,
Nothing
Just numbness

Am I really this broken?
