Prickly Feet

Prickly Feet.

Along they scurried, with their prickly feet,
Across the grass, quick as a heartbeat,
Into a huddle, the pointed noses went,
For the meal, at her door, they assent.

Little grey noses, sniffing all around,
It was the dog's food, they had found.
To get there first, they did aspire,
Before Mr Fox came out of the mire!

Not many, of us left they thought,
But at this house, they had sought,
some kind food, through the winter,
It’s all they need, plus shelters of timber.

So a few days later back they came,
And now there were four at the door.
So the story ends on a happy note,
Conservation and hedgehogs get my vote.

Are We All

Are we all -

It is essential to know,
In my affected mind,
Are we all clouds in the sky?
Is that where we go when we die…
Floating slowly, drifting along,
In a bright clear blue sky.
Fluffy cotton wool shapes,
Some like a dog or a pale face,
If you get a second take.
So next time you feel sad,
And miss that person like mad -
Look up and smile,
Be just calm for a while,
As you watch them sail by.

The Staycation

The Staycation.

It’s time for my staycation,
Explore at home in this great nation.
No airport runs and a long wait,
I’ve just driven up the road to date,
with kids, bucket and spade, dog
and the sandwiches we made.
The sea may be cool,
But we found some pools
and paddled most of the day.
We love it! the family all say.
So it’s no more new time zone,
I will sit in Pevensey, with an ice cream cone.

It's How the Story Started

It's how the story started

The house that was not my house -
I feel I must be quiet as a mouse,
Why do I not feel a happy gaze,
I feel I am winding through a maze.
Every time I wipe my feet at that door,
After walking constant mud on the floor!
 It's how the story started,
Last time we left and parted.
Now I'm back and I will try,
And not keep asking 'Why oh why.

Once Hidden In the Dark

Once hidden in the dark.

Hidden in the dark, I look at my once broken heart and see the patterns of the tiny cracks, starting to heal over.
As I move to my eyes, I see no more tears or a constant mist…
Well, only tears of joy when I see you.
As I look out of their windows, to the outside world,
I see the beautiful roses you have sent to me.
I smell their gentle scent, they have an aroma of a summer garden at dusk.
I use my hands to touch each soft silky petal,
‘Slowly,’ I feel each ripple and it gives my goosebumps as I touch my lips with them,
then I hear the door open and I know you are here and I am bathed in warmth and see only sunlight.

All the Flowers Unite

All the flowers unite

Where waters darkly flow
And bright rainbows glow.
Full moons shine like silk
Then a valley lights like milk,
There all the flowers unite
Standing with their buds shut tight,
Bursting to open in the sunlight.
In the soil bright daisies fight
For room for their roots to grow
Where a burst of many seeds,
Like tiny dappled beads…
Scatter and again re-create,
Once more to await -
The visual magic of nature
As the scented borders call and lure.

My Fluffy Comfort Rug

(California dreaming) My Fuffy Comfort Rug

My Fluffy Comfort Rug

He comes and lays by me a fluffy comfort rug,
It's in his eyes when he looks at me.
I stroke his thick cream fur and stop the sadness.
Then insight he will always be, faithful to me unconditionally.

Unlike the person who changed their mind,
About if I was right to fit in with their tight fit lifestyle.
I sense now what warmth is,
On this winter day.

Pets will always be there for you.
Be kind to them and remember the love they give you.
All they want is some food,
They don't ask for much, but you are their world,
You are their world.

The Kissing Tree

The Kissing Tree
Debbie Milner

Deep in the forest,
Down by the flowing waters,
The tall tree stood…
Arms stretched wide apart,
Covered by balls of entanglement,
Tightly wound on each arm,
The pests entwined around.
But under the old trunk,
Two lovers stared out to the branches,
with beauty in their eyes.
To them, it would always be,
The kissing tree – where,
a first kiss had started,
the growth of new beginnings.
