The Burrito

Juan Mendez,
it was you,
during the
 revolutionary war,
that first
created the Burrito.
You wanted to keep the
food warm
that you were taking,
 on your donkey,
to your food stand in Mexico.
You wrapped it in a flour tortilla
and then a napkin.
You only put two food
combinations in each tortilla.
You did not call them burritos.
They were called a burritas.
No where in Mexico are they called burritos.
Some places call them tacos in your country.
Only in the US
are they called burritos.
I like food history.
Juan, I like your creation too!

Hot Dog My Red Hot!

Sumptuous
savoury
smothered in chili
onions heaped high
on a tasty mustard bun
I will not waste one morsel
of you
My eyes feast upon you
on my plate,
as you sit and await your fate!
My palette awaits
I want to hold you
and devour you
Love of my life,
you make my mouth water
I am tantalized by your smell
Your aroma tempts me
My taste buds tingle
Come closer!
You are my Red Hot!
Hot Dog,
I have been awaiting this moment
to bite into your burning flesh,
and experience your texture,
and enjoy Umami
The 6th sense

I Dreamed a Sandwich Creation

I dreamed a sandwich
creation. I enjoyed
eating it as well as preparing it
as I slept. I
could even smell it
cooking and I felt the
texture of it as I ate it
in my sleep. It
tasted so good. I
must prepare it
in my waking hours
as well. There is
nothing like a sandwich
in the middle of the night
when you feel hungry.
It isn't a hard sandwich
to make and there is no
clean up in your dreams.
2 fried green tomatoes
on toasted bread
with thousand Island dressing,
and chicken liver pate'.
Piled high with turkey
and Gruyere cheese,
and...
with a slice of Burmuda onion,
and a bed of fresh greens.
Served with a tall glass of Iced tea
and fried pickles on the side.
I enjoyed it and must eat it again
someday when I am awake!

A Hot Brown Sandwich

2 slices of bread
placed next to
each other
 on a metal plate.
A perfect union.
Each slice,
 covered in turkey,
and
a slice of swiss cheese.
Open faced.
I can't wait for lunch!
Then I make
a Parmesan cheese sauce
and cover each slice.
I add extra Parmesan to the tops.
It goes into a broiler,
until it is speckled brown,
and bubbly.
Then I garnish with diced
pimientos,
and cross two
crispy bacon slices on each slice
of bread.
A Hot Brown sandwich.
Created in 1926.
By Chef Fred K. Schmidt
at the Brown Hotel.
I like cooking
and learning about food.

Morning Has Broken and Night Time Has Gone To Sleep

As the morning breaks
I sit and enjoy the quietness
of the moment
It seems so peaceful and surreal
around me
Like a dream waking from
a restful sleep
but not quit awake yet nor asleep
an in between state
just enjoying where I am at
I wonder what the first dawn was like?
I wish I could have been there to enjoy it
Many dawns I have enjoyed and I am
thankful for that
I love it when morning breaks
and night time goes to sleep

Poetry Soup

The alphabet,
the senses,
all five of them,
plus the 6th,
umami, or
texture,
and mouth feel.
Imagination,
thoughts,
feelings,
and
meter,
rhyme,
and what ever else
 you want to add
to the pot.
Mix it up
and simmer it
until it is done.
Pour onto a page
and share with others.
Serve with love.
Soul Food!

Breakfast Cristo Monte Sandwich

Make a jelly sandwich.
Dip it in egg, vanilla,
and sugar that you've beaten.
Cover it with Swiss
cheese sauce
and put it under a broiler
until bubbly.
Eat with a fork and knife.
Serve with coffee,
and sliced tomatoes.
Cooking is what I like to do,
especially, sandwiches.
I love to pile them high
with lots of stuff, and try to
make them a beautiful
presentation.
We don't just eat with our mouths.
Our other senses eat the food too!

Love Is Forever Open Your Heart and Let Love Come In

Love is forever
Eternity
Never ending
Goes on and on
Doesn't stop
Goes round and round
Like a clock
or a circle
with no end in sight
Makes the world turn
and gives meaning
and purpose to life
It is a merry-go-round
of happiness to us all
We all can experience it
We just have to open
our hearts and let it come in!
