The Playing Card

the playing card
by americus

i am the jack of all traits
which means i can be everything i hate
my thoughts buzz still like flies on the wall
yet he still catches me when i fall

can i ever be truly well rounded? when will i start to shave down?
watch me be a performer, my mask solidifies into a frown
i feel so special in my dressing gown
perfect appearance to let my thoughts drown

who am i to be mad just because dad gave up when he was sad?
nobody here chooses who gets to be glad
i can keep a steady pace in mind
yet when i go to sleep my teeth still grind

i’ll give myself a gold star in the middle of my face
watch darting eyes be amazed with grace
the jester once a servant makes you laugh
my body boils in the bath

i’m the jack of all traits
i am not what i hate
my brain uses what drives me crazy as bait
the minds eye sees every side and it’s debates

Lost In the Stars

lost in the stars
by americus

In a world full of constellations there's you just and me
The sun and the trees they just let us be.
In a world full of constellations there are so many stars
We just lay here, like we’re chasing cars

In a world full of constellations i found my sun
When the day met the night and the world had begun
The moon was lost, alone in the dark
When the sun said hi, the moon found the spark

In a world full of constellations days can grow long
Sometimes we wonder if we even belong
Pluto projects its heart onto the world
And neptune finds its heart in its socket, twirled

In a world full of constellations i was brought here alone
But with you i am at home

Be Yourself

Be yourself.
by americus

Be yourself! Oh, just be yourself if you have any fear place it on a shelf
Be young, be cool, be nice but be cruel

Be yourself! You got it! You won, you fought it
Be pretty, be smart, be so fragile you fall apart

Be yourself! Hurry up, time is ticking you gotta make the cut
Don’t cry, don’t be sad, you're alive why cant you be glad?

Be yourself! Why didn’t you ask for help? Yes you were screaming but did you yelp?
A villenless crime, a dollar a dime, my love, what's the time?

Be yourself! Just move out of the way, but they cant even see you at the end of the day

BE YOURSELF! Be you, because creating art is too taboo

My Broken Stove

my broken stove
by americus

My girl, she's a broken stove, but she can give me children above
My girl is too hot, she sits and simmers until she rots
My girl she's too high, she sits there staring at me in the sky
My girl is too fast, i touch her hair as she talks about the past

...

My body is too broken, i am awake but i have not woken

I contain too much heat, i shred my skin just to compete
I can get oh so high, I break my wings trying to fly
I can get way too low, down down, down my mind goes
I can get oh so cold, i freeze in time and can’t hear what i am told

But this broken stove still cooks, and she challenges all the books

Other Peoples Heartache

Other people’s heartache
by americus

Other people’s heartache.

It will greet you at your door with a solid expression, smiling and grieving at the same time
Other people’s heartache plays on your movie screen, happening before the sublime

But other people’s heartache also happens before your eyes, in the midst of reality you are being asked to shake hands with other people’s heartache and blur the lines
Smiling and grieving you are choosing to help or be the helpless, even though other people’s heartache has claimed its name as helpless. Now do you help or help less?

Your crown tilts a little when other people’s heartache reaches for it, begging for something else to be on their head besides grief
And when your eyes turned to glass and shatter with the images of other people’s heartache, are you watching your own movie or acting in it? Are you watching the car crash or are you the police? Are you the helpless, help, or help less?

Some may run faster than other people’s heartache, some may gladly shake hands with it. Some may place it in a glass box, keeping it around but not close enough to hurt them

But when other people’s heartache breaks open the glass box, grows a head on snakes and stares you down, it’s hands turn to knifes, the greeting is a booming and your door is what you’re about to lore, you fall to pieces under other people’s heartache.

When your eyes shatter and you see images of disgust, fear, loneliness, and your heart turns to stone
Other people’s heartache becomes your own

Manic Pixie Dream Girl

Manic pixie dream girl
by americus

It is me, your MPDG
Float like a butterfly sting like a bee
Sting like heroin in your veins
Have you ever seen such beautiful pain?

I come just to leave
I go in like cigarette smoke as you breathe
I can fill that hole inside your heart
And make you regret it from the start

I am fun, full of love and life
And i will be the one meeting your back to a knife
I will sneak you out of your house
All just playing cat and mouse

I will help you find yourself
But all you needed all along was on the shelf
I will leave just as fast as I came
And i’ll watch you look for me in every girl you meet again

I put makeup on, I take it off
My skin bruised but still soft
My past will never be seen
Because why would you see something so unclean?

In your eyes, I’m an oxymoron of a girl
You look up my skirt as I twirl
But don’t let me catch your gaze
After all, all i am is just a phase

The Benefit of the Doubt

The benefit of the doubt
By americus

Faith in you, faith in me, faith in things we cannot see
Faith is a girl with lovely hands, Faith is a girl who never falls only lands
God isn’t real, he is dead, but i still think about him as i lay in bed
But if god is real, when i die, i hope he will teach me how to fly

Hell is your mind, your mind is dull, only feeling satisfied when we are full
Ive tried to pray, pray and weep, but the only time i’m calm is when i’m asleep
Swears are just words, your words are knifes, maybe this is why everyone dies
If i’m lucky, i’ll die quick, my existence only being a scratch on a stick

So i see why people believe in god, though the idea of him is so odd
The world is so scary, a tough and deep pit of a cherry
The devil is real though, he is here, he is with us, close and near
He is human, alive and well, and he has moved out of hell

And if the idea of religion makes me say a bad rhyme
I hope God will just listen to me in enough time

Bubble Gum

Bubble gum
by americus

Seven years sticks
The truth hitting like bricks
Pink blushes cheeks
The calendar killing weeks

Chewing up words talking like no one has ever heard
Spitting your gum at the closest nerd
All you want is to fly
Blow the biggest bubble let it cast you into the sky
Karmas got you high and dry
Choose your friends, gum is in short supply

Turn that frown upside down
Break your fall when falling to the ground
Is this a circus why do i see a clown
Be the walking talk of the town

You swallowed the bubble gum.
7 years we’ll be pretty dumb
Feeling light, feeling numb
Don’t let the forecast get you glum

Try your best to cough it up, if you’re okay please say “yup”
Don’t be sad buttercup

Seven years from now you’re pretty dumb
Why did you swallow the bubble gum?

Why I Am Not Afraid of Death

Why I am not scared of death
by americus

I am not scared of death.
I do not spend my days counting breath
And its not like I would try
But it is so easy to die

Morbid as it may be
I want to think about this carefree
I want my mind to be high
As I am about to die

I want to be close to the stars
I want to find a love like ours
And while I don’t want to be dying
I want to be flying

I don’t want you to see me go
But I do not believe in a “down below”
I don’t know if there's anything in the sky
So I am not afraid to die

Vulnerability Has a Steady Pace

So this is it I'm falling apart

I guess that's the real beauty in art

There's a difference between falling and crumbling down

This time my brain is around

The fear of letting my mask come off

The fear of my face making someone scoff

I thought I could act like I normally do

Then love hit me out of the blue

Blue sapphires are worth more than gold

We start to question what we are told

I'd like to say I’m just shedding skin

But the truth is I don't wish anyone the jail I’m in

I know my brain and heart can be one in the same

They work together to fight my pain

Because love hit me in the face

Vulnerability has a steady pace
