Pretty Little Lies

Stop messing
with my head
your pretty little lies
bring right back
to the day
I first fell for them
you lied to my face
to make me happy
how ironic
you told me
you cheated on me as you begged me to stay
how messed up
"I'll change" you lied
so beautifully
that I believed it
"It'll never happen again"
you told me
with your fingers crossed behind your back
such a pretty lie
that you told me
so pretty
that I could've snapped a photo of it
and kept it in my locker
every word
that came out of your mouth
were just as deceiving as they were sweet
but yet
I soaked it all in
because I couldn't refuse the attention
you gave me
so pretty
what a pretty lie.

Time To Laugh

12/20/20
PARTY FOLK poetry contest
Sponser-Julia Ward

Shut up
Please
All of you party animals
Howling at the golden moon
Like your wishing for it
To howl right back
Your open laughter
Grates on my nerves
Maybe I'm cynical
But I hate it here
So why did I come
I guess I needed an out
I'm stuck at home constantly
With no chance to escape
The four walls that now dampen my life
Maybe I'm jealous
That you're all deliriously happy
Laughing like maniacs into the night
While I'm stuck
In a conversation I don't want to be in
I think I am jealous
Maybe I'll go over
And say hello to you guys
Maybe I can change the way
The night will turn out
But at the pace it's going
I don't think I can
However
I still have time to laugh.

Hello Again

"Its been awhile"
I could tell my friends
But instead I run
As fast as I can go
Right into their arms
Six months
Its been almost six months
Since the move
Since the tears
Since the loss
Since I last saw them
Since I last heard their voices
But right now
I'm not thinking about that
I'm thinking about them
My friends
My stupid, goofy
Immature
Wonderful friends
That I grew up with
God, I love my friends.

For All Those People Out There

Keep your head high
Because there are people
Out there
Who criticize
To bring you down
Don't let them
Take that leap
Cut them off from the start
What you love
Is what you love
Don't change it
Just because someone didn't like it
Speaking your true feelings
Is always better
Then lying about them.

A Moment

We had a moment
Not a bad moment
Thank goodness
But a good moment
That would be remembered
When one thought
Of the other
A simple singular moment
That passed
As quickly as it came
But yet
There was more said
More expressed
Then in a span of a lifetime
There was an understanding
Of the other
It was a simple
But clear message
That revealed
What couldn't be put into words
It was a comfort
That we didn't know how to give
Sometimes
The simplest
Moments shared with someone
Are the most special.
