They Were

She was called "fat"
They told her she's above of what she should be at.
The drive and confidence was something that she lacked.

She was 13 when she became anorexic.

Starving herself of her dignity and happiness, she watched herself as her reflection disappeared in a spoon and she succumbed to the nothingness.

He was 11 when he was called stupid.

A straight-A student, made himself believe that he wouldn't be favored by cupid.
His grades declined and gave into the riptide of depression, building a citadel around his secession.
Not letting anything in, out
Leaving many, out.

She was 15 when she was called "ugly"
She was told she was unworthy of the love that could be given to anyone other than her.
Taught that whenever she was called "beautiful" or pretty, she was being lied to-
It wouldn't be long until her vision would no longer blur.
She wore a mask to school and saw mirrors everywhere.
She is beyond beauty, this I swear.

They were rolling stones thrown from the creak we used to roam.
Always on the move, they were different, because how can you settle down when you think you've got nothing to prove?
As if it were the price to pay to be accepted into a society that couldn't accept them for who they were.
It wouldn't be long until their vision would no longer blur.

Winter Woods

Wanderlust grows with the silence in a woods of snow.
As I look beyond my window,
Mounds fall from weighed branches,
Ice melts from power lines that my eye catches.

It doesn't last long here.
The beauty of a winter woods
That contrasts with the pale sky and the rosy cheeks consealed under hoods.

It doesn't last long here.
The snow lines trees with graceful flare,
and the satisfying breath of life into the cold air.

As I look beyond my window,
The gentle falling of the snow,
I take in the beauty of a winter woods.

So Tonight I Might See

He puts his hands on me,
I'm not the only thing he wants.

To men, a body is ecstasy.

"Show me more, put your hand here, give me what I wish you would..."
I am a woman of her pride, dignity.

What you made me feel obligated to do, I had wished to save for another man.
You are gone, but for no price other than my stolen innocence.

He put his hands on me,
Told me he loved me.

I wasn't the only thing he wanted.

Light

I see light.
I watch from a distance, seventeen.
Illness wafts its way into my senior year.

Yet I see light.

Condemned to these four walls, these two windows know only how to wait.

Hope.

I still see light.
There's hope for the rest of us. I see light.

Only seventeen, yet I see light.
A new year will bring us light.
