Celine B Poem
I will not be your puppet in a minstrel show
Because I guarantee no Mammy, Jezebel, or Sambo lives here
You may try to control my thoughts and dreams
But I will not be your Venus Hottentot
As you stare in awe of my beauty through a glass cage
I will not be your freak show
or your gateway to a cultural experience
So please find your own
I will not be your token prize that you flaunt for credibility
Referencing my existence ever-so-often to quench your thirsty guilt
I will not allow you to parade my black skin as a badge of honor
I will not let you touch my kinky locs
I will not let you use my tears to wash away your sins
I will not ‘dance monkey dance’
I will not sing or perform for you
My body is not a vessel for your insecurities
Do not twist and turn my limbs into a web of amusement
I will not plaster a smile on my face while you poke and prod my soul
Because I do not belong to you

Celine B Poem
On this quiet day, his deep-set eyes catch my mischievous glances
For our love has always been filled with late-night dances
With an empty bottle of wine on the table, two pairs of left feet intertwine into blissful trances
Intoxicated by our joyous passion, our spirits become an operatic symphony
His vibrato harmonizing with my melisma in total synchrony
And as the conductor beckons for the climax, our voices sing until we reach euphoric ecstasy
As we hold each other’s wrinkled hands and breathe in unison, I savor this moment’s tranquility
Recounting the times of our youth when he was filled with virility
And I with my ever-present felicity
How powerful our bond and absolutely pure in its resiliency
And with this truth, I find peace in this love that fills me with invincibility
Even as we wait for slumber’s infinity
Oh, this love of serendipity
Our body, mind, and soul becoming the holy trinity
I can’t believe we were blessed with this divinity
The type of love God intended as we shared our hearts unconditionally

Celine B Poem
Hello?
Anybody there?
Helloooo?
Of course, no one answers when I beckon
Spirit so fragmented, half of it probably traveled to Mars I reckon
Jumped on the 7:20 shuttle and left me at Armageddon
Never been religious up until now
But now I’m praying to the Heavens for a blessing
Did that irresponsible swine want to teach me a lesson?
How do I fend for myself when parts of me are missing?
Do these walls talk when the giggles lessen?
These thoughts becoming stifled by my regression
Why didn’t I get the memo about this untimely session?
Young and vibrant I used to be
Now look how withered is she
Happiness is unfortunately never a guarantee
I should’ve cherished those moments when I was free
Free of these chains
Free of this pain
Hanging on to anything that can keep me sane
Now half my body took a trip to Maine
Un-whole and unbecoming, I slowly disappear into the mundane
