My Garden

My garden lies sleeping,
Soon she will wake.
She bids me come to her
With spade and rake.

Take away my spent flowers
And plant some new.
Decorate me with angels
And a birdhouse or two!

Put a bench among my flowers
And sit for a while.
The melody of the wind chimes
Will make us both smile.

We’ll spend time together
On many warm days
And thank God our Creator
For His wonderful ways.

Winter

WINTER

An unwelcome guest
You boldly pushed autumn aside.
Your fierce winds blow her fallen leaves
Forcing her to say goodbye.

Your bitter cold makes us cringe
As we reach for coat and hat.
We trudge through the ice and snow
And dream of seasons past.

Then one morning we awake
To the earth so calm and still.
The snow is sparkling like diamonds
From the sun peeking over the hill.

We thank God for His infinite wisdom
For this time to pause and reflect
To see the beauty of all His works
And welcome you here at last

Best Friends

The Redwinged Blackbird and spring have come home,
As if best friends…arm in arm.
They warmly greet me with sun and song
I said to them “What took so long”.
The Redwinged answered with his beautiful call
It thrilled my soul (he knew that it would)
Then flashed his wings and sailed so tall.

Spring embraced me with her loving rays,
I smiled and dreamed of her coming days.
Of warm winds and flowers and new life everywhere
And all of God’s creatures emerging to declare
That it’s time to celebrate and be content,
Hope has come home, winter is spent.

Autumn

You came to us graciously
Allowing summer to say her sad farewell
Your cool breezes refresh us
Your beauty we cannot tell.

A small child gathers your fallen leaves
She marvels at their hues,
“Look Gramma, a red one!”
How wondrous to see through her eyes.

We see God’s hand in nature
We feel His presence in our lives
Each season is a gift to us
And to live for Him we strive.

My Wall

I’ve built a wall around my heart
A wall created with care -
A wall of brick and mortar
I built it with many tears.

The brick is mistrust,
The mortar is pain.
I’ve been broken and wounded,
I won’t love again.

How much can one heart take?
How many tears can be shed?
I built the wall to shield me
From the sorrow that I’ve had.

My life is fine.....or is it?
Sometimes I’m not too sure,
But my wall stands firm.
I’m safe inside, of this I am assured.

I only let God inside my wall,
With Him there is pure trust.
He loves me the way I am,
And to live for Him I must.

Maybe someday…I’ll let another in,
I can’t imagine why.
Maybe there is someone….
Whose love I can’t deny.

They say great love
Involves great risk.
Can I take that chance?
Can I let someone in my heart again,
And give them my last dance?

Friendship

Friendship

Do not ask me what I do,
Do not ask me why I do,
My time is mine, it’s been this way…
For a very long time.

Don’t ask me to explain my feelings,
I’ve told you those before.
I have not lied nor deceived you,
You’re my friend for evermore.

Friends, whether lovers,
Are still friends indeed.
They do not place demands,
But are there when you’re in need.

So call me, my friend, I’ll be there for you,
In my arms you will be.
Once again we’ll feel this bond,
Of just you and me.

We’ll feel the passion of lovers once more,
It will satisfy for a little while,
Then I will leave to think of you,
And the memories will make me smile.

In Awe

IN AWE

The water ripples and shimmers from the long awaited breeze.
God whispers His nearness in the fluttering of the leaves.
I turn and look but no one is there,
And yet I feel His presence so near.

The winds get stronger and dark clouds come in sight,
They overwhelm my senses as I behold His might.
The heavens overtake me and I feel His embrace,
The rain sprinkles drops of hope on my face.

The drought in the land and the drought in my soul
Is being replaced…My God is in control.

Don

You left us today
With sorrow so heavy
And pain so strong,
Our grief is indescribable,
But our hope hangs on.
We know God’s promises
To which we cling with our life,
A promise of no pain or tears,
A promise of no strife
As the seasons come and go
Your light will be missed,
But your memory will not fade away,
Our lives you have kissed.
And on that wonderful day
Your face we will see
And for eternity
We forever will be.

The Mountains

The mountains meet the dawn
With shining caps of snow.
Their beauty overwhelms me
As I behold their radiant glow.

The valley bows before them,
It seems to know its place.
The river flows in gushing joy
Just to touch their base.

The Lord made the mountains,
He made the valley and river too.
He gave us a beautiful gift to see
To remember His Majesty.
