An Ocean Scene

I love the ocean on a summer day
The sun’s reflection dances on the waves
Upon the cliffs I view across the bay
As water gently glides into the caves

The ocean's colours start with shallows clear
The sandy browns and greens and blues I see
Upon the breeze the placid waves I hear
As seagulls squawk and children play with glee

But then the sky turns dim and waves go CRASH!
The wind whips up and seagulls all take flight
The clouds above are now as grey as ash
The sea begins to really show its might

Yet as the sun sets I feel truly free
This tranquil place is where I’m meant to be

All That I Have

A memory of a time long gone, in which I stood by my beloved blossom tree.
I would run around the field where Majesty no longer stands.
I would climb her and imagine I was on a mighty ship, bound on a voyage.
Those days I treasure,
The ‘happy days’, I call them now, before it began.

Before the running, before the hiding,
Before the fear that will now forever live inside me.
Before I would leave my home, my family, my country for safety,
Before the only person I would have was me,
Before I would experience the worst place on earth.
Before I would escape, against all odds,
Before HE would destroy my world.

Those days are all I have now,
The smiles I used to wear,
Back when I used to live,
As now I just … exist.
I know that life will never be like that again,
I will never again know true happiness.

I still cling to those memories,
All that I have.

Photo Memoir

A treasured photo of a moment past
In which my arms a newborn baby lies
The love I feel now I hold her at last
As I gaze into my young cousin’s eyes

Her chubby face I utterly adore
Her little head upon my arm takes rest
Right now this baby’s all that I care for
As all I want for her is but the best

But now she’s grown and rarely quiet and still
Her thriving mind like budding flowers blooms
She talks and walks and climbs with brazen skill
Deep down I know her wondrous future looms

Whatever happens I hope she still knows
That she will always be my “Tiny Toes”

Life

Life is so much more than living.
It is following,
It is believing,
It is enjoying,
It is writing your own story as you live it.

Life is happiness,
Yet sometimes it’s sadness.
It is bravery and courage,
But still fear and dread.
Life is love and friendship,
Along with hatred and pain.

Life is so much more than we make it out to be.
It can be anything we want.
The reason for which we are living
Is ours to decide.

So why the fighting?
Why the wars?
Why the poverty,
The cruelty,
The homelessness?
Why the discrimination?
Why the killing?
Why the diseases,
The climate change,
The greed?
Why the corruption?
Why the pollution?
Why the disrespect,
The politics,
The lies?

We could be so much more
Than THIS.
