Freedom In Flight

FREEDOM IN FLIGHT

Once there was a beautiful bird
That daily hopped atop my sill
It sang so soft, it'w whistle sweet
My heart did warm with every chirp

And then one day no shrill or pip
The bird did fall and its wing did break
And in pain it laid upon my lawn
With nary a strength to take a flight

And so the bird i gently picked
And tended it daily back to 'gor
But thought it got the best of care
In cages winged beings tend to die

And so in time the bird did heal
But gone was all the cheerful chirp
So for the feathered one to thrive
I learnt its freedom was in flight.

Yemiitan

YÉMIÍTÀN

If you would stay do stay
Please tease me no longer
My body, no more can bear
But my heart, yet still craves
My womb you make hollow
My hopes many times dashed
How can you be so heartless
With visits that never last

Yémiítàn, my precious child
This foolery is so much pain
Desist your antics my child
A mother can no longer bear
You prey on my deep desire
You tease with your to and fro
Why mock me in my despair
Àbíkú omo, òdájú ènìyàn

I know you, you little trictster
I can sense your deep longings
Too many a time have visited
To visit me yet never stay
So with cowries will I bind you
And with red dust to earth tie you
With deep marks will I brand you
And ensure you never again leave.

Weightless

WEIGHTLESS

More often than not, you clutch tightly,
The very things that weigh you down;
Beliefs, suppositions, fears and so much doubt,
You line the lie of being emancipated,
When in actual fact, freedom is alien to you.

You define yourself by others' standards,
Struggle to fit in, when the simple truth is,
Every individual created is a blueprint,
A unique creation, with quirts and kinks,
That makes you who you really are.

You fail to look up, turn to the creator,
Ignore the consult of the compendium,
To a discovery of one's true self,
Instead of the falsity of a likeness,
Imitate, forgetting there exist no facsimiles.

ME is an opportunity to introduce to the world,
Your beliefs and all that makes you distinct,
a chance to stand out and not be defined,
By standards of what right is, or by anyone else.

Defy norms: An existence outside the box
Be as light as a feather, Be you
Knowing there's only this one life to live
To live it full, live it well, live it free, live it good
And look back decades from now with nary a regret

For you have lived................WEIGHTLESS

The Gift of a Day

How much we take for granted
Our rousing each and every morn
Whilst yet forgetting the many
Who not quite unlike ourselves
Did enounce "See you tomorrow"
Only to exit the stage before the play is done.

How many times do we pause, take time
To appreciate the gift a given day is
Embrace each day like it's the very last
Treat people alike, no different from self
Smile, like it the latest anti-ageing cure
And let that smile warm someone else's heart.

How often do we give a comforting hug
Not only when such a need is called upon
To not speed through each and e'ry day
Chasing what we presume of great import
Whilst yet greatly missing and losing out
On the blessings encountered each, everyday.

Appreciate every single moment
From the time the lids come open
Rejoicing in yet another gift given
To go about each and e'ry task
With a renewed sense of purpose
To fully enjoy the gift of every single day.

Enjoy the fact that we have life
And with it, having been gifted a new day
Refuse to focus on the impending storm
Which may really never come
Appreciate instead every ray of the sun
Storing to enjoy should gloom choose to visit.

Consider the pains we a-times experience
As pointers for us to stop and take stock
Yes stop, and actually do take a rest
Close the eyes, lie still and savour time
Knowing without a sliver of any doubt
That it be the greatest gift ever received.

Notice the weather, the season changes
Sunrise and sunset, heat, dry and cold
Appreciate the skies, colours and shapes
For it indeed requires creative ingenuity
To ensure innumerable differences
Exist in absolute harmony.

Listen to conversations and give no voice
Let the many voices that a-times surround
Wash over pleasantly like the waves of the sea
See the smiles, the expressions of affection
See the pain and anger which exist too
and see truth so clearly so as to recognise untruth.

And like a polaroid picture streaming
Look on the past, and that without regrets
Let it be your choice, one you make
To refuse to just pass through time
Instead live life, and live it full
See the gift of a day...Any day...Everyday.

Secret of the Knees

What makes a good mother?
What makes a good home?
Her granddaughter asked
A woman always on her knees my child

For pretty faces in time get old
And bodies eventually age
But past all that what really keeps
Is the character built upon her knees

A pillar she must be for many you see
A source of strength and comfort too
And she herself mettle she must find
Entirely completely, upon her knees

Her purpose you see is the greatest of all
To build nations, groom generations too
And if per chance a mistake is made
A sad lot will pay of the coming age

So upon the woman a lot is laid
Expectations unspoken, thankless too
But a good woman a good home will make
If she learns early the secret of the knees.

Psychology of Self

PSYCHOLOGY OF SELF

You fear what you fail to understand,
The many versions of love portrayed;
The depth of distrust, disloyalty and pain,
Causing a freeze at the mere thought of it;
To live in fear of being vulnerable,
Having another in charge of your decisions,
A most scary thought, still......
Trust
That, which is feared,
Yet an integral part of any relation.

You question, out of a need to know,
To better understand, to gain knowledge,
Yet to have theories proven wrong,
One must first be ready to have opinions negated;
Be comfortable with being wrong,
Be unclear with the picture of your suppositions,
And about that which you flee from,
I choose to believe is the fear of losing control,
Of having someone else be in your thoughts,
In ways you cannot cannot control.

Your fear, though not unfounded,
Yet not totally grounded,
Still,
You run to the very thing that chases you,
Like one looking to avoid "ying" by seeking "yang",
You chase after what you term security,
But you are only most secure in first appreciating self,
Forgiving self, and loving self,
Enough to know your true worth,
Thus refuse to settle for what belittles.

Do you know YOU,
Enough to decide what is good for YOU.
Do mood swings, become comfort zones,
A hiding place, a never never land;
A place to retreat,
Where fortifications hold fast,
With no fear of being breached,
Where darkness becomes a cloak,
Mystery a preoccupation,
All of which YOU alone do to YOU.

So my question to your unspoken thoughts,
Do you truly need to be saved,
When in truth you imprison yourself,
Your existence an open penal institution,
When you can take the walk to freedom,
To find love and acceptance,
Understanding and belonging,
For your search will never truly end,
Your desires, be ne'er truly fulfilled,
Until you come to the simple realisation,
That only one opinion matters.... YOURS.

Flaws In Perfection

FLAWS IN PERFECTION

To judge perfection is to define flaws
Flaws, judged the varicoloured blight
That separates the sameness of humanity
That which makes you - YOU, and I - ME
Where what one individual calls perfection
Another views only as obvious fallibilities
Whee one sees meal, another terms toxin
For one man's meat, is another's poison

Imperfection, I believe, balances sublimity
One cannot be measured without the other
For only by faults can arete be valued
And only in failing can strength be learnt
Only in falling and from mastered faults
Can a being approach exemplariness
Perfection, a state existing only in theory
For every man is hampered by feet of clay.

Aphorisms of Q Vol 1

APHORISMS OF Q (VOL. 1/viii)

I found a most enchanting place
Where all is pure, wonderful and safe
And then I dared to look around
And found my self in the mind of a child

Waiting For Death

WAITING FOR DEATH

Daily I strolled, past this old man's house
And there he sat, from dawn to dusk
His mien, tenebrific uncompromisingly
Hunched in his chair, dried to the bone
Cold and crabby, waiting...just waiting

And so I dared ask one dreich, dreary day
"Good sir, what keeps you out here everyday?
"For I see, it takes a mighty bit of your time"
He spared me a frown, s disturbance I'd say
"I'm waiting for Death, that crafty crafty lout"

Confused I was, that one would pass time thus
I leaned on his fence, my curiosity compelled
For to me, this was one quite curious event
"Won't let that philistine sneak up on me" he said
"I'm smarter you see, won't be caught unawares"

"I made no investment, no profit I stacked"
"I lived my whole life at the barest I could"
"And stored not treasure, for that it would steal"
"And had me no pleasure, Ha! a surprise it'd be"
"Let death come for me, there is nothing to take"

I walked away, contemplating the perplexity
How a life would be wasted in such a wary way
For to await an event with no appointment
And to deprive oneself over such a quandary
Is in itself, i'd clearly say, a sad, very sad life.

Bits and Pieces

BITS AND PIECES

Bits and pieces they say makes the whole
A whole of what I can't help but ask
Bits and pieces of pain - despondence
Bits and pieces of lies - distrust
Bits and pieces of self - egocentricity
Whatever be your chosen assort.

So,

The bits and pieces you chose to gather
In mind do bear the responsibility of
that the bits and pieces you then do sow
To lend from the French "des choses"
Are the sort of dribs and drabs ......
You should feel no fear to harvest.
