This Is Today

Most days I am over the past and I have let all that baggage go,
But there are days when those memories
And negative thoughts come crawling to the surface
To take me for a painful ride
To where my feelings of anger and hatred thrive and reside
I tell you that I have forgiven you and most days I have
But this is today and I can not seem to put the past away
I wish that all these emotions would just subside
And I could move on with my life
If only I were able to forget just as easily as you did
As if I had woken up today and pretended you didn't exist

The Lurkers

In every corner they lurk
Waiting, plotting
Much like vultures
But worse
They don't wait
Til you're not breathing
Picking, tearing
At your flesh
All while your heart is still beating

Inside

I do not want this
I do not own this monster inside
Keep your eyes closed
I never want you to see
The things I hide

Is It All In My Head

I hear the flutes playing
I hear the children laughing
Is it all in my head
I see the shadows move along the walls
I see the ghosts in the halls
Is it all in my head
Sometimes I think nothing is real
Sometimes I have got nothing to feel
Is it all in my head
Some days I think I have already died
Some days I think there is a demon inside
Is it all in my head
I can see the world is on fire
I can see that every one is a liar
Is it all in my head

Trust

There is never silence
Yet there is hardly any noise
The quite speaks loudly
Suffocating
Death waits for us all
Yet death waits for none
Are the answers all the same
Is there only one truth
I see who you are
I know what you're about
Your lies were a slap in the face
Your actions can't be undone
You have consumed me with doubt
Is it all my fault
Did I let you get too close
Maybe your own fears lead you astray
Maybe that is just the way you are designed
If only I had read the writing on the wall
I could have saved the time
Was this the only way

Absence

A cycle of promises broken
Just like the children
You never took the time to see
All the damage you did
And it was all effortless
You are so full of exuses
And now as the years have passed
You say you have found God
You call to say how sorry you are
And how you wished you could change the way you lived your life
If only words could erase all the hurt
But that is not the way it seems to work
I am sorry that you are feeling so guilty
Convenience doesn't convince me
I am certain God forgives you
But do not look to me for sympathy

Broken

I am sitting here just listening
Listening to the brutality
Of all that you are confessing
You say it is your love
That you are offering
But all I can see is your need to manipulate
And all I can hear is your words disintegrate
As they carelessy spill from your mouth
I keep waiting in the dark
Its not all that different
From the chambers of your heart
Sometimes I think I can still hear it beating
I should find this moment so liberating
But it is my guilt that keeps me confined
If only I could forget with the passing of the time
